  1. I too, was considering a tattoo Not too small, nor too big But something I can dig! Not a picture of objects or anything too complex Neither too colorful or anything that make me look like a fool No names or anything numeric But instead, something generic. On my arm I want the word "TATTOO" tattooed! Have GPS, Will Travel.
  2. My light brown rock is actually bigger than the surrounding gray-colored gravel and the clue specifies its location. It's actually pretty easy. Have GPS, Will Travel. [This message was edited by gmaxis on October 02, 2003 at 07:57 PM.]
  3. I just created a multi-cache wherein the final coordinates is written under a fist-sized rock. Any thoughts, objections, violent reactions? Have GPS, Will Travel.
  4. I hit my hundredth cache yesterday. Congrats to both of us! Have GPS, Will Travel.
  5. I volunteer as the San Diego contact! Can't wait to get this started! Have GPS, Will Travel.
  6. Eureka!!! My Garmin was finally recognized! I went geocaching today and used the cigarette lighter adapter for power. I noticed that my Vista would shut off by itself and figured that it may be the connection. I played around with the contact points until I got power again. When I get good contact, I would go searching for caches with the cable attached and batteries installed. When I arrived home, the first thing I did was turn on the computer, connect the serial cable and download the upgrade. Didn't work. Repeated several times like a madman. I was on the verge of insanity when I decided to vent here. And then I read two new posts. One of which helped. Thanks Overland1! And to everyone who suggested a solution. Also did a little digging online last night about the error message "could not open port COM1..." and here is one response: >This error message is usually because there is a conflict with another program or resource. Use the System Configuration Utility - MSCONFIG to troubleshoot. Go to Start-->Run and type MSCONFIG in the Open line and click OK. On the Startup tab, look for any programs that may control the modem and uncheck the box. If the programs listed do not seem familiar clear all of the check boxes except the following check boxes: ScanRegistry SystemTray LoadPowerProfile TaskMonitor < I performed this action but only ended up having to do a system restore in the end and still left me in the dark on the COM port issue. Have GPS, Will Travel.
  7. How do I find out if NEMA is on or off? Under 'Autodetect', I've checked and unchecked the box that says "use high speed communication rate" Result: none At start up, a small window appears... "Hotsync manager Could not open port COM1. Please verify that COM1 is available and make any changes in the HotSync Manager setup." --I click OK This happens whether or not my PDA cradle is plugged or not. the CyberPower AVR control center window also appears at start up and I just click on the 'POWER' and it goes away. I've never connected the serial cable that came with it. I'm stumped. Have GPS, Will Travel.
  8. Been wanting to download the 3.4 upgrade to my Vista but my computer displays this error message... "Not connected Unable to find a Garmin device" I thought it was the cable at first coz, I just got one from Glisson and the I tried the original serial cable and it still displays the same error message. Autodetecting a COM port does not produce and positive results either. What should I do? I have an eMachines T4200 P4 2ghz Can anyone help? Have GPS, Will Travel.
  9. My wife got the Canon S-40 for my birthday. Pretty advanced features--some I haven't even figured out. Quality pics, only problem is that the viewfinder gets a lot of dust inside. Have GPS, Will Travel.
  10. Thanks for the input guys! Have GPS, Will Travel.
  11. Nice to know there are caches to find in my homeland...I've been emailing some friends and introducing them to this sport and hopefully they get involved and produce more caches. I'm not going back to Manila anytime soon but when I do return as a 'balikbayan', I hope to hit several caches and hide some of my own too. Have GPS, Will Travel.
  12. I lost my original data cable for my Garmin Vista and since I'm planning to buy a notebook soon, I want to get a data & power combo cable. Been checking out ebay and there's three choices...those who got their cables at ebay, can you tell me your experience with them--good or bad? Garmin brand Gold cable Gillson Technologies Have GPS, Will Travel.

  15. Always carry protein bars or meal replacement bars with me if I know its gonna be a long hike to the cache. Have GPS, Will Travel.
  16. I would definitely go for it if it was local. I myself am planning one that requires rapelling--just haven't gotten around to doing it. Of course there's a warning on the cache page that frees the cache owner from any liability in the event of accidental falling or major injury. Have GPS, Will Travel.
  17. And the winner for the heaviest set goes to.... The most utilitarian goes to.... The most high tech.... Have GPS, Will Travel.

  21. If I were to buy a new digital camera, I'd get one with a weatherproof-armored-rubberized outer casing. Camera makers have yet to produce one but if you check www.dpreview.com they might have one that will fit your needs. Have GPS, Will Travel.
  22. Wash it. Dry it. Sand it. Rustproof it. Paint it. Put felt lining on it. Decorate it. Fill it. (with swags) Hide it. Log it. Get over it! Have GPS, Will Travel.
