  1. Oh your poor baby. (And you too.) Bee stings HURT.
  2. Heh, not here it doesn't. It rises and sets in the south. At least in the winter it does.
  3. There is a huge mushing community out there (about 20 miles from town) and I think every dang musher has made their own set of trails so it is a maze.
  4. That's fun Dick, that I "know" you and not your son, who lives here. Anyway, it was quite the adventure. Thanks.
  5. Though not geocaching related, I did use my gps to mark the location of the stuck snow machine on my recent overnight mushing trip. We had to leave it in some pretty remote territory. Here's the whole story but be warned, it's long. http://www.cloud9doula.com/Overnightmushing.htm
  6. I think that you are making a huge assumption. Some people skip harder caches because of time constraints. Some people believe that the fun is finding cool locations, rather than hunting for a devilishly hidden cache. These people may skip the harder ones. I know a cacher that got sick from a tick bite. Unless there is snow on the ground, he isn't going after anything but urban micros. Some people don't care for long hikes, so they skip caches that require them. There are a million reasons why a cacher may not go after more 'difficult' caches. Yep and some people cache with small children. So don't assume that if a higher difficulty one is near others that I have logged, that I attempted it also and just did not log my DNF.
  7. I was in Girl Scouts to the 4th grade when I quite because we "got" to learn how to make pizza while the boys got to go camping. It just didn't seem fair, even then.
  8. Yeah that's vitimin B you are thinking of. Garlic capsules help too.
  9. I became a premium member and my butt got smaller. Does that count? It certainly does to me.
  10. What is the active ingredient on those and what percentage? They sure would be handy but I doubt they are heavy duty enough for me. Guess I should look and see for myself.
  11. So, he instructed junior high school aged students to approach potentially deadly snakes? Oh if it had been my kid there and I had heard about that, heads would be rolling. Yes, I am "one of those mothers."
  12. Why am I tempted to say no s*** sherlock? That wouldn't be very welcoming now would it?
  13. I try to keep from licking myself while camping.
  14. Almost as effective as 6.5% DEET? That's not very effective. Most products have 20% DEET or more. I did a quick scan of REI products, and everything was greater than 6.5%. Only one product, Cutter Skinsations, was near that level, with 7%. Jungle Juice Plus has 17.5% DEET (but it has other repellents mixed in). Everything else ranged from 20% to 100%. Hey, I never said it worked *BETTER* than deet. I'm only saying that *IF* you are one of the many people who are looking for a more pleasant alternative than the plastic melting chemicals, then soy oil products are the next best thing. They are clearly more effective than the 3rd runner up (IR3535), which is another nasty chemical. I use deet when I feel I really need it. But there are times when I don't want to. It's no fun to go camping and wake up with your eyeballs mushed into your deet covered arm. And it certainly takes the romance out of a night in the tent with your deet-saturated Sweetie-pie. Try this, smear one arm with deet, and the other with soybean oil. Now, lick the stuff off your arms. Which one tastes better? Hahaha. Guess it depends on where you are hiking/camping. Tundra in Alaska is nothing more then 4 feet of mosquito breeding grounds. I'd rather not be eaten alive then try to smell clean and fresh for any romance in the back country.
  15. Heh, me too! Mosquitos are so thick in some places I hike that a head net is a must or you will inhale too many. 100% DEET works great. I'm really allergic to mosquitoes and bites swell up to huge welts. So I do what ever I have to to prevent that.
  16. But this is where you are incorrect. There is, here in America, a certain charitble organization that I actively do not support. Which one you ask? How would you know? How would the reviewers know. Yes, I can certainly choose not to attend an event in support of this particular organization. I can also choose to let my membership expire if it was ever supported in anyway by a game I choose to participate in. No problem, my choice. But see where this leads? If there is one of me, I'm sure there are more. And not all of them would neccessarily be active in boycotting the particluar organization that I am. I'm sure there are many organizations that are boycotted by some while others see no problem in supporting them. So who is to say which ones would offend the least amount of people?
  17. Sorry I find this statement a bit over the top. You have no idea what individuals do in their day to day work. Perhaps they use caching as a means to leave behind their dailey exposure to death and dying and grief. Fact of the matter is, it is not up to you to judge. I don't care to attend any charity related cache events. Even if I support the cause. Even if I am not required to donate to attend. I wouldn't feel comfortable attending and not donating obviously. I totally stand behind Groundspeeks' rules to not let the two get mixed up together. This is a game, not a platform. If I want to donate to a good cause, I can find the place to do so on my own.
  18. I put my home number in my cell phone directory so anyone who finds it can contact me. It's labeled "Home".
  19. *snicker* Well of course I have as I am a back country back packer.
  20. Heh, up here they call them snowmachines, down south they say snowmobiles. In the villages they call them snowgoes.
  21. Yes. Wait. Can you babysit so I can spend more time caching? Here's what I did yesterday and was invited to help with an overnight tour. http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-QmIfJpw2fql...aTAM-?cq=1&p=30 Dee Dee is in 3rd place right now and is in Kaltag. Here is my blog entry from my trip to Kaltag. It was fun talking to the natives in the town about the shenanigans of the mushers doing the Iditarod. http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-QmIfJpw2fql...aTAM-?cq=1&p=15
