  1. exactly. so you can see where the bison "Goes"
  2. i used to use above mentioned method on a different device. on my nuvi i usually set it to what cache i want to go to then on the map screen (after setting to pedestrian, off road) touch the top bar that tells what road your driving on etc then touch the last box on the list this will bring up a mini map kind of with better distance to cache and closer zoom, then when you get to GZ (Ground zero) as mentioned farther up put the nuvi in your pocket and look around while thinking where would be a good place to hide a cache of x size. some are REALLY creative btw so dont get disappointed if you dont find it on your first try. You will get the hang of it eventually though, and you'll also notice a lot of other things that no one even looks at normally
  3. Usually, my Garmin continually saying "Recalculating." Over and over and over again. Recalculating. Recalculating. Recalculating. You know, my Tom Tom doesn't say that. It must be a Garmin thing. It does say "turn left....turn left....turn left.... etc. if you veer off it's suggested course. Oh, I listen to crazy Indie stuff no one's ever heard of. And I subject others to it also. i know that song. i call it "Garmin gone crazy". even better if you get the garmin Holiday Pack for voices (Elfried, Dr. Evil). definately a garmin thing cause my PDA with tom tom is pretty silent unless i go through an area with a lot of interconnecting streets close to each other.. usually i listen to whatever is on the radio or whatever i have on memstick at the time (could honestly be about any type of music) while in the car and while walking i listen to The sound of life (or lack there of)
  4. Pile of rocks against a tree. Pile of bark against a tree pile of sticks against a tree pile of sticks with few trees around. (before its said) a lamp post skirt in a parking lot a rope tied to a tree by a river/creek
  5. interesting. i am one of them dense ones that this will probably take a while for me to figure out. knowing me i will wake out of a dead sleep with an AHH-HAA i got it and then forget what the cache page is..
  6. you just made my day with just them 2 sentences. glad the new cachers learned something. and looks like they will be cahcing for a while if they busted out the waiders awsome
  7. Pine tree hides..... the bane of my existance.... yeah they can be just about anywhere and even a big pill bottle strapped to a caribiner clip clipped to a branch can be a pain at times.. if you can get in the tree you might have a chance though. oh and dont forget to check the fungii either
  8. were you looking for micros . might be easier to go out and look for larger ones.. also snow very well might be covering them. also as you continue to cache your geosense (ability to think outside the norm for hiding spots) will develop more. i know when i started the average spot was slightly oblivious to me, like a micro hanging from a coat hanger in a tangle of wild vines or a small bison tube hidden in a hole in a tree. you'll get it though.. caching in snow condition can definately make it higher difficulty then listed.. as an example i have one i hid that even i have problems finding if there is 2 or more inches on the ground because of its hidey hole.. also dont forget your GPS even with good coords could be off up to 30-40 feet due to variations in the weather, difference in gps unit used, tree coverage (or lack off) when cache is looked for compared to when it was hidden.. once you get to where the gps says your within 20 feet or so its sometimes easier to just put it away and start thinking, where would i hide something of X size around here if i didn't want it to be found by someone who is not looking for it..
  9. im thnkng write to device.. on a nuvi i think it should come up under extra - Custom POI (points of interest) or under favorites as a general waypoint. if you had to move a file to the Nuvi make sure it is in the proper folder if i remember right there is a POI folder and a GPX folder. GPI file to POI folder and GPX files to GPX folder. alot depends on the Program you are using to put the files on your garmin so more info is needed
  10. nicely done. thats about all i can say. very nicely done
  11. yes RTV works pretty good.. if you have changed valve cover gaskets you have probably ran across its use. holds up to oil heat cold water all excellent.. for adhesive i use epoxy putty. easier and a little less messy then liquid 2 part epoxy and works on trail to fix cracks in caches quick as well. just cut a chunk off kneed it to mix it (may get warm on hands but not enough to hurt) untill its kinda sticky apply to your penny or tube, apply a little pressure for about 2-3 minutes and boom its good enough to release. just it takes 6-12hrs (depending on brand) to cure. it similar to JB putty (by jb weld) but without the metal added to it.. actually i recently had to reattach an anchor to one of my urbans and used this worked great..
  12. no maps or arrows is how i started. just a written set of coord, an iDEN phone, and a free tracking program that updated my coords faster then the built in access to the 3 channel GPS chip. found about 5 caches like that then got a Nuvi 205 cause it was cheap and had 12 channels, cant beat that compared to the iDEN i776 and the numbers only approch.
  13. wow that is just awsome. and not the robot part (though that would be a nice item to have ) the part of the kids and the Basketball players knowing exactly what geocaching is. hmm i really do want one of them robots though.. follow it to the cache then you know it is within 20-30ft of the cache (good signal day). pure coolness all around though
  14. awsome guy you are definately.. can't wait till it hits public via you or i have the income again to afford it.. im sure this will be an outstanding conversation piece to have with me and my laptop when out travelling (another when i can afford to). i was thinking more of streaming on the sales site (no way to youtube definately). hope my local pbs will show it. will try and get in touch though if i dont get a main person any messages seem to get lost around these parts XD ).
  15. Oh good grief. The "I can't save/budget for non-essential product X so you should give it to me for free" argument. oh good grief another person having to make a useless comment about my useless comment that no one will listen to.. thank you for wasting time.. and btw food is more important right now, i mean you can't geocache dead now can you.. and i never said GIVE it to us. i said i agree that a streaming version (even if not complete, ever watch a real screener, not all the movie is there) would be nice and may help with sales. also i am one of those that buy it when i can actually afford it so nyaa. back on topic.. maybe a better trailer then a 1 minute that covers really nothing but the opinion cachers are geeks (don't disagree buuut still).
  16. definately agreed. after dishing out for everything elses there is nothing left to get a copy of this. and i dont trust trailers (not by big corp or small barely funded producers) so unless by rare chance i get to see it on local PBS (ha ha on that) i guess im just gonna miss out unless its streamed. also others would rather watch before they buy (mpaa and ria disagree, but they are greedy).. would love to see after others reviews but hey we all cant have money lined pockets
  17. Under Menu GPS->Setup, Set to your gps, then GPS Send Waypoints. or if i remember right the oregon can handle pocket query GPX files without conversion (Dont quote me though cause i do not own an oregon) Also you can export them as Garmin POI files and have proximity alerts added to them. only catch is zoom level required to see POI icons (mines 300m zoom level or closer).
  18. As well as above, the my finds query doesn't even seem to be queing at all hmm. hope the hamster hop back on the wheels soon, might wanna order another dozen or 5 as backup XD
  19. i got a Nuvi and a pda and the Nuvi isn't to bad for caching. you will definately want to get something like GSAK from http://www.gsak.net/ really makes creating waypoint files or POI's from a cache list pretty easy fully works just have to deal with a nag screen at startup after a certain amount of days unless you register it. Kah - also if you enjoy it and decide to go premium you can make your nuvi paperless (no need to print out/write them pages for hints and descriptions) with a plugin for GSAK you can find info on here http://geocaching.totaltechworld.com/index.html . welcome to the addiction happy caching.
  20. to download the GPX files with info in them, like starbrand said, you need to be a premium member. there is a Nuvi paperless cache macro for GSAK that works with many models of garmin. you'll have to search the forums cause i forget where.. but until your premium all you can get via file (loc) is coords, the rest you will have to print or write out till then.
  21. I'll answer this like any other of like question.. carry a trash bag and CITO. I mean whos gonna bother someone cleaning up trash. in the public eye your either A an Environmentalist B a Person doing Community Service C poor and Looking for Cans (more and more common) D Looking for good Karma either way no one will think twice about what your doing.
  22. i've went Geocaching when not planning it if thats close enough.. park somewhere and glance at the gps and go hey theres a Geocache less then 200 ft from here, might as well go grab it..
  23. was duplicate but had to add now. Wow now we know.
  24. awsome log there. maybe a message asking what modle GPS they are using. i want a modle that finds the caches for me. mine just tells me walk in circles while it lazily sits in my hand or hangs from my jacket.
  25. 100 Earthcaches in an area wouldn't be impossible, it may take you many trips to complete the challenge and that may take several years but it is still a very completable challenge. i think this one would be an interesting as long as those that went for it planned on maintaining what they hide..
