  1. Sometimes (not always) clicking the refresh button also helps the TB to recalculate the distance.
  2. As of about the first of January, I'm not receiving emails from any logged caches, travel bugs, or geocoins. I've check and resaved my profile, but that has not helped. I've sent an email to another cacher, and that was copied to my email address on my profile, and have had emails from the BOT's from Groundspeak about weekly notifications and TB packages being sent. So, I'm wondering if there is a glitch in the gc.com system. With over 350 travel bugs in the system, I get anywhere from 10 to over 50 emails per day, and have not for a few days now. PS-My husband is getting all of the notifications on his account with a different email using a different computer.
  3. Geocachers are some of the nicest people in the world. I've watched some go way out of their way for my travel bugs and am constantly surprised and touched by the things folks have done for my travel bugs. You all are awesome to help these cachers out!
  4. Any TB that has had it's photo taken with GeoPig has now met the most important celebrity in Geocaching.................
  5. Exactly, and that's why a cacher should ask before mailing one of yours. They need to ask you, so you can say no you would rather have it travel by cache to cache with cachers.
  6. Ah I see, you consider a Jeep as a personal trading item. You have to be one of your friends to earn it. But, only one of your friends with valuable merchandise can trade with you. Is that correct? No, that's not what I said. And I'm not going to argue with you about it.
  7. Just sent an email to order 3. Hope I'm not too late.
  8. Pre-registered and I'm ready to go. Will work on expanding my geocoin collection to bring on down with me. Glad this event is close (not local) but we will have fun caching a bit in your area of SoCal. Looking forward to meeting folks and trading coin lists, etc. It looks like a lot of fun!!
  9. I have a travel bug that I'd like to get to Paris (france) but if it goes to Paris,Texas first that's cool, and by the way, if it goes to Sydney Australia as well, all the better. I am not able to travel, and I simply marvel at the amazing photos and adventures that cachers give to my TB's. So, if your TB doesn't make it to your designated goal by the most direct route, rejoice in the journey. Happiness is not a destination, it is the road on which we travel.......
  10. If you find any of my bugs, you're welcome to mail them, if they get closer to their goals. If the goal is to get to Seattle, don't mail it to Miami. Other TB owners may not agree, so ask first. And, I've granted "permission" for cachers to hold my bugs longer than a month if they were going to travel to fun (or even not fun) places, just to get the TB to another state or another country.
  11. Well when I have a jeep, either found, or handed to me, I trade them with other cachers to ensure that they keep going and travel. I won't leave them in caches because they get "stolen" or added to collections. I have a white jeep and 2 yellow jeeps in my travel bag right now. No need to whine about it. The way I received my first jeeps was to attend events with long-time cachers. Someone will give you one, you just have to be in the right place at the right time, be sincere, not whine, and stop threatening to break someones legs.
  12. That's hysterically funny! I hope the TB owners either know, care, consent, or just think it's great fun!
  13. Well that's good news. I've left some unactivated ones as FTF prizes. So, never really know how long the FTF hangs onto them before they activate!
  14. That's not a dork question and someone else may be around here wondering the same thing! I've changed TB's names once I activated them, once I thought of a better name. Welcome to the game! It's all about the fun!
  15. Eartha offers a really good suggestion! I can't tell you the number of times we found caches due to either trampled grass, or other things that may have previously fallen out of caches, like dropped pens or swag. So the bug would at least get the next few owners on the right course! And, you know, as a TB owner, I find it very cool that you were honest and contacted the owner, and you went out of your way to see how the owner felt. I've had so many go missing, that all someone needed to say was "sorry". That's it. If more cachers were like you, and kind and honest, mistakes happen, it's really not that big of a deal, then it would be more fun to release bugs. All any of us can do is do our best.
  16. I hear what you are saying. You have to have been there. The tricky part about tracking mileage is I'll drive 35 miles to work, cache over lunch, drive home. The next day I'll drive back and find the next nearest cache. My bug will only show that it moved .5 miles, but hey that's the way it works! Mileage is fun but I like tracking the caches more. Oh yes, the fast caching or short trips, I never really log the TB into and out of a cache. I really only do it for the long hauls, like this week with Thanksgiving and going out of state to cache then in a week or so, either doing a maintenance run on one of our own TB Hotels, or the next local cache we come to. I don't do it regularly, that doesn't seem practical. Caching is far more funner........... is funner a word?
  17. Yup, I've just had a package where some of the chains were on the copy tags and some were on the original tags. It happens.
  18. Outstanding! And welcome to our sport! It's fun isn't it? And, addicting....... Yes, there are PLENTY of travel bug hotels out there, and just because you grabbed a TB from a TB Hotel you don't have to take it to another TB Hotel. The purpose (in my eyes) of a TB Hotel is a place for TB's to be housed, congregate, and be ready for adventures. It is not uncommon for cachers to return to TB Hotels often even though they have found it previously. It's a "jumping off" point for many TB's to position themselves toward their goals. For example, if I want a TB to get to Michigan, I place it in a TB Hotel, and when a "certain" cacher comes from Michigan on business, he stops by the TB Hotel, and takes it on its way. It's not always possible to know what a TB's goal is when you pick it up. Do your best and move it on, or closer to its goal, even if it's only .1 down the road, it's moved and the owner will be happy to know that it's still "in play." We now own 335 travel bugs in the game, and we are always happy to see them move and watch their adventures. We've met some awesome people who have gone out of their way to post photos and have driven far just to get a little plush animal to have a photo with something. Again, welcome to the game. The most important thing is to HAVE FUN!
  19. I agree. I log my personal TB into and out of my own cache when I go for maintenance runs. It keeps my mileage pure. I only do this for my personal bug. And it helps when I come back from a vacation or far away caching adventure to log back through my own cache close to home for mileage. Now, this is not "virtual" dropping, which is much like a TB that never visits a cache. My TB's actually visit the cache site with me in my caching bag. Also, when I activate a new travel bug, I start it from one of my own caches, closest to home. That way, it gives it the best mileage from close to the place it was created, then out to the world for adventures.
  20. Happy to help from Southern California, and I have an "in" with the Southern Michigan pipeline of cachers....... who I will volunteer to help too!
  21. Oh my gosh, that's hysterical!
  22. Oh my goodness, I've never figured out the ratio. Do you mean those that are verified as lost, or those TB's that seem to sit for 6 months or longer, or what?
  23. Buy more TB tags and release them too. I was getting frustrated with the lack of my few TB's moving, so I became obsessed with buying TB's and releasing them. Now I have so many in the field playing all over the world that the few that I released at first that are lost, don't bother me so much.
  24. Well done. Too bad it ended up a DNF on Ozzy. Your pics are SWEET. Bye Ozzy, RIP.
  25. Is it too late to get one? Do you have extras?
