FS: Garmin Colorado 400t - Near-new condition!
Bazzer replied to A.B.E.L.'s topic in GPS technology and devices
Sound like a great deal to me. I would like a similar unit with West Coast maps and Blue Water....One can only hope. Barry -
How much do you want? Please email me at bazz(@)me.com Barry

The main reason is the new firmware which includes "TracBack" As a full time guide it is essential for me for safety reasons. I would like a much better screen, ie to dim to see in daylight without holding the unit at just the right angle to the sun! I don't think this will be fixed until a new model comes out. The 60 series was much better in this respect. If I purchase another Colorado then I will make sure the software is on CD and not SD card since I like to plan routes on the PC

I regret selling my 400t recently, so I would like to buy either a 300 or 400t. Please email me or pm me with a price and description. It will have to be in nice condition but a boxed item is not necessary Barry

Colorado 400T plus City Select SD Card
Bazzer replied to Bazzer's topic in GPS technology and devices
Are any of the Colorado's good for "general use backpacking, mountain biking, etc"? I have a GPSMap 76CSx and am happy with it, but just wondering. maldar The problem with the Colorado series is the screen is hard to see in daylight unless it's held at just the right angle! Barry -

Colorado 400T plus City Select SD Card
Bazzer replied to Bazzer's topic in GPS technology and devices
Neos, Barry is a fishing guide and more then likely uses his GPS for outdoor activities other then Geocaching. I have many friends who have GPS (handhelds) and are not interested in caching. This will explain the low caching numbers! yes, I have been member for quite a while and I have had a number of GP's. The Colorado is doubt the best there is for geocaching, but for general use backpacking, mountain biking, etc the 60csx is better, and yes I use one for work. I do not have the time or the money to Cache, so the Colorado is up for sale. If I don't sell it pretty quickly here then I shall put it on Ebay. My id on ebay is tflyfish, you can check my feedback for yourself. I am paypal verified etc, Barry -

Bazzer replied to Bazzer's topic in GPS technology and devices
I have edited my original post to include price! Barry -
I have a Colorado 400T that I am selling. I purchased it to take my 14year old son Caching and he is more interested in his skateboard than GeoCaching with his dad It is boxed of course and like new, I have City Select on SD Card to go with it. I have bicycle mount which I have never used. I will take $500 without City Select for it including postage to the USA, or if you want to include City Select (Genuine Garmin) the Price is $550. I will accept Paypal. Please pm me or email me with any questions. Thanks, Barry

Route planning on the Garmin Colorado 400t
Bazzer replied to wake140's topic in GPS technology and devices
How about using nRoute? I have a older version of City Nav which is great for route creation. Barry -
You should read through the posts on this forum before you send it back. I have one, I also have a 60csx with maps if you would like to by it. Oh, the "pointy needle" is called a "Compass" Barry
-
Then what about the Marine profile? Seems silly to me since the recreational profile is useful to have should you want to hike etc, besides, the 400t has plenty of space on it and I doubt if the profile takes much of it. Profiles are one of the most useful features of the Colorado series and I use them. Are you short of space on your 400? Barry
-
Yes I learned that the hard way lol I thought I was editing the sd card WHICH I HAD backed up all my other GPS units the garmin stuff was in ROM and not accessable I did indeed back up my unit after that and I also back up quite often now too Why would you want to delete a profile? Barry

Garmin Colorado FAQ and Issues List
Bazzer replied to g-o-cashers's topic in GPS technology and devices
Cough, cough.... Not with the new firmware.... The USB power source works well with the 400t and the new firmware. You have to select "NO" when the 400T asks you if you want to mount it as a drive. Barry -
I didn't get it working with Mapsource yet, but I can confirm that a regular usb cable works with a cheap USB-12 volt car adaptor. Barry

Why should it be illegal to view Garmin Maps with Mapsource?
Bazzer replied to Bazzer's topic in GPS technology and devices
But I'm not wanting to use TOPO or CITY NAV with any other unit, merely to plan a route on a decent size screen and download it to the unit. With a SD Card I can plug it into any Garmin Unit and use it. So why can't I plug it into the SD Slot on my PC and view it with Mapsource. Barry -
Why should it be illegal to view Garmin Maps with Mapsource?
Bazzer replied to Bazzer's topic in GPS technology and devices
You could use a screen capture utility, save it in a graphic format like .jpg, and print it. Not ideal, but usable. I haven't "cracked" anything, I don't know how, but I can't blame anyone who has. I love the 400T, but I think Garmin's marketing of maps, sucks. I wouldn't mind if my cards locked me to one unit, that's all I have. But I would like to plan with Mapsource. CraZY I call it. Barry -
Why is it not possible to view maps that I have purchased from Garmin on "Chips" to install directly into my Colorado etc with Mapsource for purposes of route planning etc? I understand that it is possible to do so if I "crack" the security codes. But why should that be necessary? If I purchased Topo 2008 or City Nav on CD rom then I could do so. But I purchased a 400t with TOPO 2008 already installed. I don't want to pirate the maps, just see them "full screen" on my PC that I use for GeoCaching. I think Garmin want me to purchase them twice. Grhhh Barry
