  1. Thanks Kunarion! I'll give it a try. I was with a group so at least the others had the caches on their devices but it's good to have a plan in case it happens when I'm out alone.
  2. I've had my 650 for several years so I'm used to the random freezing issues and the occasional but always inconvenient "stuck on the loading screen" problem. This weekend I had a brand new glitch. A friend was sending a cache from her 650 to mine and it failed, but then ALL of the other caches I had loaded disappeared too. I tried several restarts and they never came back. When I was back home I was able to load my field notes from the earlier caches with no problem and the GPX and GGZ files were still showing as being in the GPS. I didn't have an sd card in at the time and the GPS had been working fine right up until the transfer. Has anyone else had this happen and if so have you come up with a solution that can bring them back while in the field?
  3. I got an empty bubble wrap envelope too. But at least my address was correct.

  5. I emailed GS through their Contact Us link to ask them to go back to plain text or at least make it an option we ca choose and this was my auto generated response. Kind of goes well with Oh Snap ## Reply ABOVE THIS LINE to add a note to this request ## Request Received Thanks for emailing Geocaching HQ. Just like a delicious pizza, your email has been delivered. Unlike pizza, we won’t eat your email. That’s not even possible. Or is it? Regardless, someone from Geocaching HQ will get back to you within 3 – 5 business days. Then we’ll figure out this whole “can emails be eaten?” thing. Cheers,
  6. I don't think I've ever posted in the forums before but I just want GS to know that I want my emails in plain text not HTML. I don't have cheap unlimited data. I do like that you have added the name of the cache owner in the new listing notification, but we need to keep distance and bearing for all of the notifications. And for the love of Frog-get rid of Oh Snap! I'm irritated every time I see it! Geocaching is a game, but Groundspeak is a business and it is childish and unprofessional. I can just picture some Seattle hipster trying to be cool in an ironic sort of way saying "Hey! Lets use Oh Snap in our notifications! Everyone will love it!" I want my information to be conveyed in a simple, quick, easy to read format. With the old style I could just glance at the subject line and delete instantly if it wasn't relevant. Now I have to actually open each one to see what the notification is about. My husband is colour blind and he couldn't read it very well at all. I'm glad they have made some changes to the subject lines but it will still kill my data plan if we don't get an option for plain text. I don't have the technical knowledge to write scripts to change the way it is viewed and I shouldn't have to. The purpose of the email is to communicate information, not brand everything as being from Groundspeak. We already know where the email came from.
  7. I have an update for the Canadian cachers. I contacted Minelab through their website and they apologized for the issue with the website not allowing Canadians to request a coin. They also asked for my mailing address and caching name and said they would try and get a coin sent to me, but that they were going fast. I think that was great service from Minelab
  8. I wonder if it is just the photo contest that is open to residents of Canada and not the free coin? There won't be very many Canadian entries if we can't get a coin here. I was disappointed when I tried to fill out the form to get a coin. Here is what the small print says about the contest. The Minelab "Ultimate Geocaching Hunt" photo contest is solely sponsored by Minelab Americas, Inc., a subsidiary of Codan, LTD. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Open to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States and Canada who are 18 years and older at time of entry. Entry period for the contest commences at 12:01 a.m. (CST) on November 13, 2012 and expires at 11:59 PM (CST) on November 13, 2013. Void where prohibited. For details and restrictions, see the Official Contest Rules on the Minelab Facebook App Contest Page.
  9. I'd be interested in doing a swap. I have lots of unactivated coins. Let me take a look and see what might suit. What is your preferred finish?
  10. I saw the same signs on our way back to Ontario from Nova Scotia. I'm glad I had read this thread already They seemed to be placed at random areas, some were near open fields, some were in areas that were already treed. With all the moose and deer crossing signs in the area it makes sense that they are warning of a tree crossing area. I agree it is probably for a plantation area, but it just didn't look like it to me.
  11. I just got back from Cape Breton and I did the Cape Breton Highlands cacheport program with my family. We are from CB, and have never hiked most of the trails where the caches are placed. We even hiked a couple of trails that didn't have caches. I feel like we really explored more on this visit home than we would have if not for the incentive of finding a cache and earning a coin. We even saw a lynx! The whole family and 2 dogs liked getting out to do this. It probably helped that the weather was quite cool for most of our visit and not very beach friendly. Great for hiking though!
  12. I've been having the same problem for a couple of days. I haven't changed any settings on my computer, and I am checking the remember me box. I have been able to log in after a few tries, making sure that I ignore the auto-populated password and typing it in again. It isn't remembering my password at all, and it is logging me out after even a very short period of inactivity.
  13. I keep getting logged out even though I have checked the box to remember my password. At least I remember this password! LOL
  14. Until you squeeze one. Reminds me of a sign at our local rec center: "Welcome to our OOL, you'll notice there is no P in it, let's keep it that way"
  15. I don't think they put new hampsters in the main site, they just traded them out with the hampsters that were running the forums.
  16. Cache a day challenges are much easier to do when you haven't found almost every cache within 20 miles of your home! Keep in mind that this is a game that is supposed to be fun. A friend and I decided to try a challenge, but we found that we weren't having as much fun as usual, so we decided to skip it and go back to our regular caching habits. Cache the way that makes you happy.
  17. I have a 500 Ninja and I use a car GPS that is in a small tank bag with a window. It has bluetooth so I can pair it with my scala headset and hear the directions instead of looking at it. The handheld GPS doesn't come out until I need it. I still don't cache on the bike very often, I don't like leaving my gear and bike in remote parking lots, and I'm certainly not going hiking wearing an armoured jacket in the summer. I have used this setup for roadside caches though.
  18. I looked too-it didn't help narrow it down any though!
  19. Yup! That's the one! Rated 2/2 and for some reason it was placed last May, but not published until February. Sounds like a nice place to go visit.
  20. North is up. It is in Ontario. It was published in the time frame you listed (December to February). Still not found. and AMMO CAN
  21. You know when you are having a tough time finding a cache and you keep saying "I'm done here, let's go" and then you turn to leave and find the cache? I decided to give it one more try on the map after my last post and Eureka! I found it again! Next hint-It is in Ontario.
  22. Sorry everyone, I've had a major computer issue and I have lost a lot of stuff including the GC for the cache pic I posted. When I chose it, I just scanned the map and chose a cache at random, it just happened to an unfound cache. I have been going through the maps on my husbands computer while he is trying to recover mine, and I can't find it either. I'll keep looking, I hope I can find it again.
  23. The sat view is off too. It is on the island.
  24. Here is a hint. On the day that I posted the picture, the cache had not been found yet and it was published a couple of months ago.
  25. Did I break the thread? No takers for where the cache is?
