  1. Has anyone got the custom POI icons to work yet? (and if so, what are the steps?) I've tried and tried with no success. All POIs show with a blue flag when they are saved.
  2. Agreed. This is really the only thing you can do for now. If the members only caches start being infested then you really have a problem. A hunter digicam as suggested already might be a way to post the maggot's picture so the world can see. maybe
  3. Let us know when you find it. As for me, up until the 60CSx came out, the 60CS was my unit of choice. I got my CSx on Friday and love it even more (the extra sensitivity and memory is a huge plus). The 60CSx is just like the 60CS with the added bells & whistles. They can't measure your heart rate but you can't go wrong with either of them.
  4. My fiance wanted to get into the sport and wanted to get her own unit. For around $100, she got one of the yellow garmin etrex GPS60 models. We immediately had to go out and try it's accuracy compared to my 60CS. I'm not sure if it was the lack of WAAS or if it was just a defective unit but the readings were everywhere. She was pretty upset. Mine was pointing directly to the cache while the gps60 was flip flopping directions. There were trees overhead (but not a really thick covering) so the helix antenna of the 60CS may have had better reception. After doing two other caches with the same problem, we took it back and got a Venture model. She's been happy with that unit. I got the 60CS to upload maps (cityselect) and felt that the larger memory capacity would be helpful in the future. If you are just wanting a unit to geocache then the Venture should be a good choice. If you are wanting (or even thinking of it as a possibility) of using mapsource maps in the future then should keep that in mind when making a purchase. As for me, I wouldn't trade my 60CS for anything. It's amazing and has never let me down.
  5. Thanks for the replies. What I have a question about is basically the steps that need to be taken to get one approved. Should I scout a location first (without placing the cache) then enter the cache into GC and wait for it to be approved... then after it is approved actually go back and place the cache at that point? Do you guys normally do this or place the cache then go back if and remove it if there are any problems? Thanks, Robert
  6. I've looked but haven't found what information is needed to get a n00b started along the correct path. What are you guys doing to correctly start a cache? There was talk about JeffCo's open space permit and having COAdmin as the single point of contact for these caches but that thread has been dead for over a month. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=78708 I know there are new caches that have been added since then. What steps do we need to take in order for a new cache to be approved (by both the local authorities and geocaching.com)? I have a few micro's that I want to place but don't want to do anything outside of the rules or guidelines. Any help is appreciated. Any previous thread links would be helpful also.
  7. My 60cs (not 60c) is *very* accurate. I've been out with a yellow etrex side by side and am amazed at the difference. I have only had two times where the compass was all over the place and I'm not sure it was the GPS' fault. The etrex venture and etrex (yellow) were all misguided as well (but much more so than the 60cs).
  8. oh man.. these pine cone caches are just cruel! (but.... I wanna do one really bad!)
  9. If a cache is more than a mile away from the start (parking, trail, whatever), I would like for it to have some meaning instead of just and old blah cache. I like a cache that makes me go wow or have more enjoyment than just finding the stash (and of course finding it is part of the fun). A couple come to mind. On one, it was off of a heavily traveled road a few hundred feet and in the side of the rocks. Finding the cache was nice but seeing the deer run up the mountain made it more special. Another one is in a park and could be easily muggled (lot of foot traffic). I had never been to this park and probably would have never been there if not for the cache. I have been back three times for pictures of ducks and other birds. It's caches like these that make it special for me. All of the above being said, I'm not into having caches in people's yards or on public streets. I have never been comfortable wandering around on the street (unless it's on Pearl in Boulder). going back and forth looking like I've lost a contact lens. I do enjoy parks, open spaces, or hiking trail caches. I love taking pictures so anything picturesque is a plus in my book. Robert
  10. CO Admin, This is great news for us JeffCO cachers! I'm glad they didn't decide to go the same path as Boulder. I'm a newbie cacher and will spend the next few months searching out the already stashed caches but will eventually one day want to start my own. I'm sure others on the board will have these questions in the future. Since you have offered to be the point of contact, what do we need to do to place a new cache? Since all caches will be using the same permit, do we just go ahead and place the cache then give you the information (gps coords, type of cache, etc) and then remove the cache if approval is not given for that site or do you want another guideline followed? Any idea how long approvals take? Is there already a permit number on file? This information may be of help if someone is stopped by an open space worker (hopefully the workers already know about this though). Thanks again for being the contact. Having one contact point should help makes things go smoothly and help us keep in good standing with JeffCo. Robert
