  1. I see you live in Nevada. Things are a bit more damp and soggy on the rest of the continent, especially along the coasts. I have seen a couple of rubba-made containers here that had cracked corners and spongy contents...like this one.
  2. Here's the site you're looking for...yes it's free. Looks a bit lame though - just changes a few of the icons. But Loaded With Mountain Bike Software! looks like a good way to distinguish this eTrex from all those "other" eTrex's on ebay.
  3. Buy the Gilsson from GPS Geek if you want one that fits. The Cartom is too tight (I found out the hard way).
  4. Let the unit sit where it can see the ENTIRE sky and after about 1/2 hour it will have aquired the satellites that are visible in RSA. These will not be the satellites it "expects" to see (visible in England) so it takes some time for the unit to figure that out and poll the list of birds. This same procedure is detailed in all Garmin manuals...the units are built in Taiwan and will not work "out of the box" unless you happen to live in Taiwan.
  5. Instead of removing the cache, you could always find someone else to adopt it. We have a few caches around my city that have been "saved" by other geocachers who now maintain them. Just put a message in the German forum if you want to do this.
  6. Geez, more ugly jewellery in that picture than a late 70's disco.
  7. Hmmmm....I know! Let's talk about GUNS!!!
  8. Then again, if you've ever had one of those pop off while you have it stretched to about 150% of it's design strength, it does feel like a snakebite!
  9. Wow...we rate below Wiccans, Neopagans, and IT drones....great.
  10. Argh, this gives me a headache. I'll stay with "piles o' sticks"! I don't want to have to start lugging my HP 48GX around, along with all my other cr@p.
  11. As Zygote 2K once said... "maybe you should stay home in your jammies".
  12. I put white ones on the way in, and red ones for the way out...and I haven't gotten lost yet (touch wood).
  13. Yep, things are much more relaxed up here. The only thing the locals you encounter in the woods will be packing is beer.
  14. "They paved paradise And put up a parking lot" Joni Mitchell, 1969
  15. This stuff works pretty good if you want to DIY. I had a bunch of odds and ends left over from work and I stuck them on big, flat tacks using contact cement. It makes finding the trail to my tree stand much easier.
  16. Great tip, thanks for posting it. Now I have one more thing I'll save instead of helping to fill the local trash dump.
  17. I'd be interested to hear from someone on the east coast using these. They certainly are unique. The only reviews I could find on them were from out west, where the snow is dry and silky....not wet and sticky like around here. The other thing I noticed with them is the open cross-hatch decking....it looks like a great place for snow to stick and build up, like on traditional laced shoes. I ditched mine years ago (have been shoeing for 20+ years). I use Atlas 825's ... they work great in heavy brush...like here!
  18. Sold my eTrex Vista, bought a 76cs...very happy with it. Fast aquisition, stable lock, quick map draws, lotsa memory. A bit big but you get used to it. Nothing sticking out to get snagged/broken off. The 76 family has been around for a while...they have the bugs worked out of them (buttons, seals, etc.)
  19. Staples has them for Palm/Pocket PC use. Just cut em' to fit.
  20. Have to agree with the other posts...I sold my eTrex Vista and bought a 76cs and it aquires faster and holds a lock much better, even in thick cedar swamps. I too bought a Gilsson antenna from GPSGeek and it works famously...I can get 15ft of accuracy in the worst of brush. The antenna came across the border with no hassles whatsoever...gotta love snailmail (sometimes).
