    Ammo Can Source

Would anyone have a suggestion on where to find ammo cans in Toronto area? Is there an online source where shipping charges are not too high? Thank you and happy caching!
  2. I would imagine that someone has reached out to the many Ontario geocaching groups, and associations??? I agree, that it seems odd to be taking this long to get up to 200 people interested. However, I think more people are interested (as am I ultimately), in a custom license plate using the Groudspeak logo, but know that this has to be the way to get to this as a first step. In addition, the cost is a lot less to go with this opportunity. Christmas is just around the corner...maybe time to present this to Ontario geocachers as a great gift for another geocacher, or to tell them to let others know it is on their list!!! Looking forward to hearing ANY update soon! However, I worried that when organizers get to 200, it will be difficult to get those 200 to ultimately provide the funds to move ahead!
  3. Thank you for everyone's assistance...I can't believe I missed the link on the GC.com site!
  4. Hello fellow geocachers, I'm about to place my first cache, and would like to include a laminated note about geocaching should it be found by a muggle. Does anyone out there have examples of what they have placed into a cache? In addition, I'm looking for a similar note, that I could attach to a travel bug...any ideas? Thank you, kenas
  5. I live in Durham but it's a bit out of my way. I've been thinking of placing my first cache soon, and this sounds like an interesting spot although I'd suggest that perhaps a CITO event is in order to try to take the car out of the woods, and dispose of it properly.
  6. How do you activate the Life 2011 coin I purchased from you? Where do I find the activation code?
  7. After much research, I'm now considering the eXplorist 610 based on the fact that it comes preloaded with maps. Although it is a bit more expensive, I'd rather have maps already loaded and be able to use a GPSr right out of the box, than worry about downloading, or buying maps to install on a Garmin (although I know there are free ones out there online). Thoughts? Any suggestions, or feedback from 610 users?
  8. After much research, I'm leaning towards the purchase of a Garmin Oregon 450 GPSr for geocaching purposes. However, I'm a bit confused about what else I may need to get going in terms of maps. Do I need to purchase a City Navigator map, or will I be able to geocache with the unit right out of the box? Is the City Navigator just what you need if you would use it in the car? If I can use it right out of the box for geocaching, what maps will be shown on it if any at all? Do I just go find free online maps to install on the unit? Do people suggest getting TOPO maps as well, as I've never needed them in the past, and don't think I need them. However, I do like to be able to see a satellite image of the area I'm caching in, and may need them with a BirdsEye subscription to make this happen, but I'm not sure. I appreciate anyone's feedback, or advice from your experience. Cheers, Ken
  9. I've always used my smartphone to geocache, but now am looking into purchasing a GPSr due to battery life issues with my smartphone. At this time I'm deciding between the Garmin Oregon 450 and the Magellan eXplorist 510. I'm torn, as I've been told that the eXplorist line is new and perhaps still has some issues. $300 is roughly my budget, but I may be willing to go a bit higher depending on features offered. I'm fairly new to geocaching, having been active for about 1 1/2 years, but think a GPSr will be good for me as I want to do more and the smartphone just doesn't last long during a day of caching. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!! Hoping to purchase in mid-September but starting the research now! Thank you!
  10. I had emailed the address on the site a few months ago to express my interest, but had some questions: 1) Will it be possible to select the numbers you would prefer on either side of GC - first come, first served once this is a GO?
  11. Planning a playoff pool perhaps? If so, I would be interested!
  12. Where can I go to find out more about a coin in my collection? Eg. Quantity Minted, Year Minted, Minter, etc.
  13. In my search for a database to track my geocoin collection, I've come across Memento on the Android market. It appears that it might just fit the bill, as it syncs with Google Docs as well, which I like. So, just wanted to post this here for any other Android phone users who might be looking for the same thing! Happy collecting!
  14. JoenSue: Thank you so much!!! Are you using Bento or Filemaker now? Is Bento the one that allows you to view on a portable device - smartphone?
  15. Who might be interested if I do decide to do this?
  16. And...so it begins, as I've just received my first two coins in the mail today. A few questions for experienced collectors: 1) How do you track your collection? Spreadsheet? Software? 2) To activate or not? I've heard it is best to not activate for resale purposes but what are your thoughts? I'd rather activate so that I can just discard activation codes, but never know if I may want to trade or sell in future so I'm not sure what to do. I look forward to collecting more as my budget allows!
  17. Sorry to break any rules, but thought that this might combine my new hobby of geocoin collecting, and my love for hockey. Perhaps I'll simply run one where I give away a coin to the winner without any entry fee (to avoid the gambling issue).
  18. I'd definitely be interested in getting this coin as well, as I've just started to collect them. Please put me down for the most popular one - the red/yellow version. How do we go about buying one when they are ready?
  19. Who might be interested in a Geocoin NHL Playoff Hockey Pool that I might pull together? At this point I'm looking for Canadian participants only - based on shipping costs of sending out the coins to winners. Basic idea: 1) Cost - 1 Unactivated/Trackable Geocoin 2) Pick from a box type of pool - standings posted online 3) Winners (Maybe Top 3, based on 25-30 participants), get paid out in geocoins collected as entry fees. I've just seeing what kind of interest might be out there at this point. If you are, then please post a reply to this post. If I go ahead with it, I'll post another message in this forum group. Thanks for your interest!
  20. I've just started getting into collecting geocoins, and have noticed that there are pools/contests (sports-hockey, baseball, etc., reality shows, etc.) run by individuals with the winner taking home the pot of geocoins. Entry fee is typically an unactivated geocoin. Where can I find the place to sign up to these pools/contests?
