  1. When I was new I chased them till I got 20 or so. Now I'd rather see someone with just a few finds get it so I don't go out of my way anymore. Figure it means more to them. My favorite FTF's were two caches in a nearby town, the descriptions didn't match the map locations- not even close. I went on a hunch and found them both, 7 miles from the posted coordinates!
  2. Mine is a one Bolivar note from Argentina AKA a Bolivar Bill. They are only worth a couple of cents and I bought a pile of them a while ago.
  3. New York Great Lakes Seaway Trail: "Geocaching Along the Great Lakes Seaway Trail Geo-Trail Coin Supply Status: The supply of Limited Edition Great Lakes Seaway Trail Geotrail coins is nearly gone. If you want a coin please contact the coin pick up locations to see if they have coins available." The Enchanted Mountain Geotrail closed on October 21st. 2013.
  4. My farthest was 6.99 miles off. The satellite map showed it on top of a hill with no roads and a 1.5/ 1.5 rating- no way. I used the name of the cache as my guide and found it pretty easily with no hints from the owner. GC3MDZ2
  5. Distance from home would be best for me. There are so many that I sometimes don't even look. Not going 175 miles for an event.
  6. 43 miles to my farthest FTF. I had to go to the nearby town for work that day so I ran on up to surprisingly find an empty log.
  7. I've never had exposure to puzzles and just don't even know how to do most of them- don't even know where to start. I'm probably not the only one.
  8. Will work for batteries! (will work for cache?)
  9. How in the world are you going to hide those big ole things on a guard rail?
  10. How much damage could a "bomb" that small do?
  11. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC2ENH5 OK I have looked at the listing. Is it a 4 because it is possible to walk/wade to the cache? Have a look at this one: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=1111446d-1033-4f5a-bfd3-67c47b7a14c1 St Kilda is not easy to get to but it has been done by kayak which would make it a 5 but, if you have the money, it can also be done by cruise ship or on a day trip from Harris. You're probably right- canoe caches are usually 5's, you could walk to this one if you wanted to but it wouldn't be easy.

  13. My record is 15 minutes. I was just leaving the house when the text message came in about a new one 10 minutes away. Loaded the coords, hit the road, and found it within a minute of arrival. Conveniently it was in the direction I was headed anyway. Nano on a sign post- thrilling!
  14. It must be some setting in Firefox, I just tried internet explorer and I see all of the pictures there.
  15. I can't see the pictures on Waymarking or challenges, is there some setting I need to change?
  16. I wouldn't drive 20 miles just for a smiley but I would coordinate hitting the stops with other trips/ errands in the area, so yes, I would eventually finish it. On the other hand- "We figured to hide them at our respected houses" doesn't interest me at all.
  17. Is it one of those places where you pull up and look around to see that you are in full view of the living room windows of 3 or 4 houses? I wouldn't even put the car in park, I'd just leave. A lot of people do seem to do them but I won't.
  18. "This coin will be placed in the first cache that I hide, and will be there for the FTF to retrieve." The way it's worded it could be interpreted like it was a FTF prize.
  19. The newest one in my town is on the front of a house with close neighbors- will not visit. By on I mean it looks like it is actually on the house. My first is in front of my house but it is 123' away on the other side of a patch of pines and can't be seen from my house or any neighboring houses. It has 77 finds and 5 favorites. It's all in the location.
  20. New York Enchanted Mountains Geotrail Coin awarded after finding thirty-two caches and retrieving a wooden nickle from each. Actually you note a "key word" for each, the wooden nickles are picked up in Little Valley or mailed to you- not retrieved from the geocache.
  21. IMO the first to sign the log would be the "winner".
  22. Rarely carry but I was glad I did on one occasion. I once scared off a pair of large aggressive dogs that were coming at me and my son with a couple of warning shots. They were coming toward us with heads down, hair up, and growling- very scary. I fired a shot into the ground in front of them and they ran off a ways. One of them decided to try again and a second shot scared him off for good. I didn't want to but the third shot would have been to kill. I had no doubt that they were going to attack.
  23. Back home from work. Yesterday we (the wife and I)got our 1 1/2" geocoins in the mail that we "earned" by spending a couple of pleasant afternoons traveling through the local farmland and logging a few geocaches. I thought they were quite nice and wanted to share with the group. I have no connection with the tourist board and had no agenda. As I am aware of several other tourist board sponsored "geotrails" I did not think there would be a problem with posting about this one here. I guess I was mistaken.
