  1. I've asked Lactodorum to archive my caches, but on the off chance that he is unavailable will you please take the required action?
  2. Please archive immediately GCGAD6 GCM0CG GCM2P9 GCM4BT GCM4BX I will remove the cache containers as soon as possible.
  3. Lactodorum may indeed have issued a warning, but that was to the posters of the messages he thought imflammatory. He has never contacted me, so he must have thought that my original post was acceptable. If he subsequently had a worry about the way the thread was heading he should have taken heed of recent discussionns and spoken to me first. He didn't, and so how much difference is there between Lactodorum and Keystone Approver? Very little it would appear.
  4. We've all been complaining about heavy handed moderators, especially locking threads without first contacting the thread owner. Now we find that our own UK based moderators are doing just the same. Suppose I'll get a ban for complaining, but just what has all the recent fuss been about if Lactodorum behaves in the manner that he has been argoing against? Heavy handed - right on!
  5. I think it is Madeira, but others will correct me if I'm wrong, has a very large slice of a mountain precariously poised to fall into the North Atlantic. This is on the NW side of the island, and all the predictions are that when it does fall (which might be very soon) it will set up a "movement" in the sea. This "movement" will travel, unhindered, until it reaches the Eastern seabord of a certain large country. Devastation will occur on a similar basis to that seen recently. I would what Super Mod will say about that?
  6. Not too long ago a certain country invaded another country. A short sharp exercise and all would be well. Now, some years later the flames are still burning and there is no end in sight to the troubles. Maybe, just maybe, if Keystone Approver had sat back just for a moment (Or spoken to L or E) the perceived problem would have died a natural death. Now, as with a certain country, there is no end in sight. Is it any wonder that large parts of the globe detest a certain large country and all it atands for?
  7. I get the same message if my printer or fax are switched on. Sometimes have to switch them off, then switch off and restart (after waiting 10 secs) the whole PC.
  8. I got a ban the first time I posted on the forum. Made the mistake of using the US site (hadn't seen the UK bit) My "crime" - I asked what a tadpole was. Got a load of abuse from some Yank who basically said "don't ask questions about things you don't know". Told him what I thought of his attitude to helping newbies. Not allowed to criticise Uncle Sam. Won't pay for premium membership if all I get is abuse from Yankee Doodle Dandies.
  9. Don't know anything about IPAQ, but I have Memory Map on my PC. If you click on "Properties", you will get a pop up screen "Overlay Properties". On the left of this is a menu, and the maps I store are in one or other of these categories. Just keep opening the sub folders until you find your map, then delete. Hope this helps. (I'm no techie, so don't shout too loud if I'm wrong!!)
  10. I've got a Venture and had a lot of trouble with GSAK. Don't know if it's just the Venture, but as someone else is having problems seems like it wasn't my fault after all. I gave up with GSAK, uninstalled it and returned to Easy GPS. If you can find a way round it let me know. If you want to know about tracks etc mail me direct.
  11. Sorry John, I wasn't having a dig at you, just the assumption that everyone can understand technobabble. If I buy a new car I expect to be able to drive it away, not be told that I need to put it together first. Same here. I've never dealt with all these three letter abbreviations and the assumption appears to be that everyone knows what they are. Think I'll stick to felling trees!
  12. Thanks everyone. I've looked at GSAK, and that's all I'm going to do with it. Seems to be designed by/for nerds. I'm just a simple chainsaw man who likes to have things put in English. Don't understand all this .XXX/YYY>dhe/com malarky. Can't get my head round all these three letter abbreviations. What do they all mean? This site seems to assume that I know all about the site before I begin. Sorry I don't, and won't be paying $10USD. I'll just stick with what I know.
  13. I've found GSAK, should I ditch EasyGPS in favour of this? Only downloaded EasyGPS because the site seemed to favour it. Is it that much better?
  14. Thanks Pengy. I've tried to read that link, but don't have a clue what anyone is talking about. (I don't talk Geek!!). Looks like I need to mess around with the directory and I'm going nowhere near that. What is GSAK? If it is that complicated I'll just stay as I am. Thanks for your trouble.
  15. I use Memory Map for all mapping purposes. I would like to download waypoints directly onto my various maps. I use Easy GPS for downloading waypoints. When I try and import them to MM, nothing happens. Originally I received a message saying that I didn't have a professional licence, but I've downloaded a patch which bypasses that problem. However when I try and import waypoints nothing happens. I can get waypoints onto the map, but I have to download them to GPS, then return them from GPS to MM. Besides being time consuming I also have to clear GPS of all unwanted waypoints, or chase all over my maps deleting waypoints that I don't need. MM imports ALL waypoints shown on GPS. Is there a way round this, or is it just a glitch in the system?

  17. Getting more and more off topic, but...I only have two USB ports on my PC, but with a printer,GPS,Scanner,Camera etc I'm always plugging and unplugging. Is there such a thing as an adapter/splitter to make like much less complicated?
  18. Thanks all for the kind words. However...please don't send any more mails asking for clues/hints as to how to find the cache. We gave our word to the cache owner that we'd stay silent. If you want clues drop NickH a line and see what he's prepared to give out!
  19. Humphrey, Coordinates are spot on. Good signal too. Won't make finding it any easier though!
  20. perhaps you'd like to say 'yob' in person ? This is the full content of a mail I have just received. Do I detect a threat here? As for taking car loads of slate home - well at the quarries at the top of the pass you can fill your car boot for £10. All waste material of course, but people do buy it.
  21. The problem with the rock is that it is well covered with moss, lichens and other growths. Because of the harsh environment that they live in they only grow very, very slowly, and are very small. The present depth of cover, grown over millennia is probably not as high as the gouge is deep. I fear that any remedial action would only worsen the damage. Stringing the perpetrators from the top of Blackpool Tower, by piano wire wrapped around their crinkly bits comes to mind as a mild form of chastisement!
  22. Went for a weekend in The Lakes, hoping to bag a number of caches. Visited S'late in the Day GCHG1M. Opened the log book and found a full page of derision written on 26 October. That I can live with. What I cannot accept is the wanton despoilation of the cache site. These visitors gouged their calling card "Monkey Ben and Capn Dangerous 26/10/04" on the rock covering the cache. They must have used a six inch nail or similar (possibly the end of a walking pole), because they have written in letters 9 inches high, and approx 1/8th of an inch wide and deep. This "handiwork" will take decades, or even centuries, to disappear, if indeed it ever does. This seems to be the exact opposite of Cache In, Trash Out. They have wilfully spoiled part of the National Park. I wonder what opinion the National Park Authority have of such goings on, and would they want to allow geocaching to continue if they knew about it. There is a photo against my log entry for those who are interested - I can't seem top work out how to include it in here. Their log entry is under Taishandjim, and they include photos of Capn Ben, so there can be little doubt who is responsible. Is there anyway to report this to "higher authority"? Is it the sort of thing that we deplore, or am I being too sensitive?
  23. I e-mailed the company to find out where to buy some. Below is a copy of their response which should give you details of how to obtain some. When I printed mine on a HP deskjet it came out perfectly clear. I used it in a semi blizzard on Snowdon on Saturday and I couln't tell that it had been wet. No smudging or running on the map I printed. One thing I did do, bearing in mind the cost, was to print separate maps on both sides of one sheet; just makes it a little cheaper. Thanks for your enquiry re the above product. We have been in touch with one of our wholesalers, listed below are details of a contact in your area. Southerns Office Supplies in Southport on 01704 535734 The above company buys stationery from Kingield Heath, when ordering you need to quote reference no Wet1 - A4 Spiral Book SV02957, Wet2 - A4 Paper SV02958 and Wet3 - Pocket (3x5) Book SV42959. When contacting the above please mention that you have been in touch with us.
