  1. In mapsource, under the waypoints tab, right click on a waypoint and select Find Nearest Places. Set the category to Waypoints, and the bearing and distance to the nearest waypoints will be listed. Under Edit-Preferences you can choose between true and magnetic headings, meters vs. miles, etc. That's probably how I'd do it.
  2. I bought a GPS12 in 1998. It worked fine for two years, when the screen went bad. Garmin sent me a refurbished unit for $60, which I used till 2008, when I bought a 60csx. I put the GPS12 on a shelf and left it there, in case I ever needed a backup GPS. The on/off button on the 60csx started to get squishy after about a year, then it failed completely. Really poor design. I used a little wooden dowel to turn the thing on and off till even that stopped working earlier this year. Garmin wanted $110 for a replacement, which I agreed to, mostly because I had an investment in Garmin maps that would not transfer to anything but a replacement 60csx. So I sent in the 60csx, and got the GPS12 out of storage. It didn't work. Something with the screen again. The replacement 60csx arrived, and soon lost its firmware. Garmin webupdater fixed that, but it kept losing firmware. I sent it back under the 90 day warranty and received my current 60csx, which has been working OK. So, I have owned 5 different Garmins over the years, and 4 of them have failed. The fifth one is currently working, but it's only been a month. Hopefully when it breaks it will be within the 90 day warranty period.
  3. Update - A refurbished 60CSX was received on 8-24, 7 days after the old one was mailed. This one is Software ver 4.20, GPS SW ver 2.60m. So, no SiRF chip, I guess. It seems to be a tad more sensitive than the old one. I can usually get a lock inside my house with this one, whereas I could almost never get a lock inside with the old one. They told me the warranty is good for another 90 days. I'll be using this thing a lot to see if the lost firmware problem manifests itself. But... So far, so good.
  4. When it starts up it says: Copyright SiRF Technology, Inc. 2008 My old 60csx was purchased in November 2009. I don't know what chipset it had, but it never had this problem. This one goes back to Garmin today.
  5. I don't know how to tell what chipset this one is. If somebody explains how to find out before I send the thing back I will post the info here. I left it on outside in clear view of the sky for over an hour and that didn't help. Menu-Menu-Setup-System-Menu-Software Version says: Software Version 4.20 GPS SW Version 2.90s When it loses its firmware, it will say: Software Version 4.20 GPS SW Version 0.00 Garmin's webupdater will fix it, but the problem returns. I never had this problem with my old unit. That one failed in a different manner.
  6. The 60csx I have now is a refurbished unit, replacing (at a cost of $110) my original 60csx, which died in June. I just got an RMA from Garmin and will be sending the thing back. I hope the replacement does not have the same problem.
  7. My 60csx loses its chipset firmware and gets stuck on acquiring satellites. Often. I just had to reload the firmware for the third time this week. Do any other 60csx owners have this problem? The warranty is good for another month. Should I send this unit back to Garmin?
  8. The ON/OFF switch on my 60CSX broke entirely. Now there's a short wooden dowel sticking out the top that is used to turn it on and off. It works, but the unit is no longer waterproof. The switch is a horrible design. A unit that expensive should not have a flaw like that.
  9. Try this free download from Garmin: nRoute
  10. I'm confused by this Garmin nuMaps thing. I recently bought a 60CSx, and City Navigator NT 2009 on DVD. A few days ago I registered the 60CSx and they said I was eligible for the City Navigator® North America NT 2009.1 Map Update, which I downloaded and installed. Although I had to connect the 60CSx to the computer during the install, the maps on the SD card in the GPS were not affected. An additional mapset - City Navigator North America NT 2009.1 - simply appeared in MapSource. 2009.1 has some changes: 2009 is 64 maps, 1054.2 MB, and 2009.1 is 74 maps, 1099.5 MB. Looking around my area I can see that some POIs have been added. Great. Garmin sent me an email: "During the installation of your nüMaps Lifetime map update, you will be prompted to enter a product key to associate the latest maps with your device. Your product key is: XXXXXXXX" I used the product key to install 2009.1 What I want to know is.. Do I now get nuMaps updates forever (nüMaps Lifetime), or was this just a one time thing (nüMaps Guarantee)?
