I am a total-Newbie to Geocaching.
I hear / read too much about comparing Handheld GPS-units vs. downloadable aps. on telephones and other wireless devices.
Which type of unit should work best in the open country vs. in-between buildings / large obstructions?
And which type offers Free service without requiring me to connect via WiFi or using my precious memory on my Android handheld device?
Thanks for re's.

I am trying to GET INTO the local Geocaching-trend. I have found only one Micro-cache w.i. my city, 2 years ago.
I am considering to stash a cache w.i. my immediate (suburban) neighborhood, where not a single cache has been hidden. What sort of P.R. can I start about Geocaching around my neighborhood and what promotionals can I mention with my neighbors so they will feel more comfortable about allowing complete Strangers around the neighborhood with GPS devices?

Thanks for the guidance and link.
It looks like I need to find a few more caches before I start hiding. - Should I buy a Micro-cache (where can I buy one?) now to plan to hide later?

I am a total virgin to Geocaching - or, well; I DID find my very first cache w.i. my local city many months ago. I used a friend's GPS to find this at that time.
I want to start my geocaching career by learning ALL I can about this technology and sport.
The GPS I have bought is a GARMIN - Dakota20 (handheld unit.) Without the owners' manual - I have misplaced this paperwork somewhere! <-I neglected to MARK exactly where it is! =:-o - how can I make sense of all the features that pop-up on the start-menu when I turn it on?
I am advised to begin by HIDING a / a few micro-caches to begin contacting local cachers.
Where / how can I begin buying micro-caches to start my geocaching career? Does geocaching.com offer a link to buy these or can I maybe find some at local sporting / hobby outlet?
My temper can get this->||<-short when I do not understand what I am doing.
Thanks for help.

I am wanting to hide my very first Cache / Microcache.
Where / who / how should I buy this and should I buy this / these in multiples to hide more as I progress?

Shopping for my first GPS machine, I feel tied - between FEATURES and PRICE.
I have found a GARMIN DAKOTA-10 unit at a "reasonable" price with a GARMIN DAKOTA-20 that is twice as expensive and a list of higher-priced GPS machines that are far outside my budget-range.
Does this "older(?)" GARMIN DAKOTA-10 still have useable features that are valuable today or should I have to save more money to buy the newer (and much more expensive) unit in aim to stay updated?

I'm shopping for my very 1st geocaching equipment.
Shopping locally, I can buy a GPS for $99 or an ipad with considerably more features for $700.
Which setup costs less for the least number of potential problems? And, using an ipad, do I need to pay a monthly subscription to access these features?
Thanks for suggestions.

I'm shopping for my very 1st GPS machine.
I am planning to volunteer at my local elementary school as a GOTO-PERSON to inspire the kids to start a hobby (Geocaching.) What FEATURES in a GPS should work best for both myself while Solo-Geocaching as well as modeling Geocaching for younger kids?
I have already cached a few local caches with friends and I'M HOOKED! %Which manufacturer GPS (Garmin, Tom-Tom, or other) offers more valuable features, or with the recent flood of technologies using ipod / ipad units, is this a more valuable option?

I'm planning to give GEOCACHING my all, beginning this year.
As a Substitute Teacher, I am invited to bring Geocaching into the classrooms, where I will be subbing.
So far, I have found only one cache, with the help of another active local cacher.
This cacher used only a programmable, handheld GARMIN GPS. I am wanting to compare the brands (Garmin vs.Magellan vs. others) against each other so I can get a hands-on "feel" of these brands of GPS without having to BUY a unit and exchange it if I do not like it, etc.
%I want the one that should, ultimately "be best for me / my caching-experience / my Teaching methods."
Please help me find a cacher, who is willing to give me a HANDS-ON experience with other brands / types of GPS units w.i. the Amarillo, Texas region.
Thanks for all help.

That is a really broad question. Maybe it might be best to tell about how you are going to cache. A few here or there or maybe 50-100 on an average weekend? What do you want to spend?
I have no idea WHAT / HOW / WHERE are options for me to cache.
I'm an absolute NEWBIE to this, so I'm "fishing" for ideas before anyone closes options I might disclose by providing too much info.
For a BALLPARK price-range, how about $100 for a STARTUP unit? Is this too much or too less for a unit with features?

GREETINGS! my fellow Geocashers,
I'm shopping for a good / reliable GPS machine for my personal use.
Brousing in my regional Sporting shops, Electronic shops, Retail outlets, Shopping malls, Online, etc. I am even more unsure of what I need for the price I want to pay.
%Should my shopping efforts be focused on FEATURES, OPTIONS, or please suggest styles for my beginning Geocashing energies.
Please reply with suggestions of PRICE-RANGE I should aim to pay for my first (pocket) GPS machine.
Thnks for feedback.

How / where should I start, while I am at this location?

I am trekking to a local restaurant to celebrate my father's birthday. - I am SURE that there must be some / many caches hidden in / around this location.
How should I begin hunting for geocaches without any coordinants nor any planned(?) caches are even hidden here?
