  1. Interesting, I wouldn't think there'd be that much difference between 2500 and 2650....might be another bad unit...........I'm trying to get my third working
  2. I've had no luck with alkaline (2.5 hours) so I went to Lithium (5-6 hours) , better but still not good so now I'm trying Nimh 2500 ma and am getting again ( 5-6 hours). Backlight set to 15 seconds, Waas enabled, compass on, track up. Anyone getting better results?
  3. No worries, I just want to help the people that don't only geocache to get the right product that works for them, I guess your right, it is a mainly geocaching site ..........nothing's perfect.
  4. Well the actual description says it's for outdoor adventures and the issues I mentioned are problems you need to know about when using for it's stated purpose. It does the General things in the description, just not as well as previous "less advanced" models. ( and yes of course it's not worse at all things........just some very important ones).
  5. An advanced handheld should have battery life, ect. ect. ( I'm tired of repeating myself). So you tell me where it says it's primarily a geocaching/fitness unit?
  6. I don't appreciate your comment about me spreading untruths, they are my findings and are as valid as your opinions.
  7. So you don't think battery life, reception, navigational features are important. At least the info I've discussed is based on fact.....you don't seem to have ant facts so who's spreading untruths, you must work undercover for garmin.
  8. Have you not read any of the previous threads.........provide an actual reply with some input or leave the thread.
  9. This is a comparison with the 60scx not your personal opinon of what you think is good....the battery life is a far cry from the 60scx (and all other older units), the screen is dimmer than the 60csx (and most older models), the reception is less ( not an opinion, my testing), backtracking is a guidance feature on the 60csx and older models..................
  10. I've taken the 60scx and the Colarado out together several times and in heavy cover the 60scx is holds it's signal much better.....I gave you a list......... read my list as it is , I didn't say "Seriously lacking for navigation?"
  11. I've taken the 60scx and the Colarado out together several times and in heavy cover the 60scx is holds it's signal much better.....I gave you a list.........
  12. Of course there's older models at a much lower prices, should I expect the brand new technology at the highest price to be an inferior product .......... 1) poor battery performance 2) dim screen 3) less reception under heavy cover 4) can't display multiple tracks 5) no wavepoint averging 6) no back tracking 7) search fron curser loacation on map 8) declutter 9)proximity alarms for some..................
  13. What in the world are you talking about? It does everything they say it will in that paragraph... This rugged / check advanced handheld / check packed with detailed topographic maps / check not to mention 3-D map view / check high-sensitivity receiver / check barometric altimeter / check electronic compass / check SD card slot / check picture viewer / check color display / check Exchange tracks, waypoints, routes and geocaches wirelessly between similar units / check What am I missing here that it isn't living up to? My point is that it is being marketed in the same category as the 60 series and it is a step backwards except for the better display, 3D view and a few minor things. How did you ever get the idea it was developed mainly for geocaching and fitness, geocache is mentioned once and fitness not at all in the overall description. Maybe you should write a new marketing page for Garmin.... I forgot to add your quote..... "To me it's clearly aimed at fitness and geocaching"

  15. "Take on the trails with Colorado 400t. This rugged, advanced handheld is packed with detailed topographic maps for all your hiking adventures not to mention 3-D map view, a high-sensitivity receiver, barometric altimeter, electronic compass, SD card slot, picture viewer and color display. Exchange tracks, waypoints, routes and geocaches wirelessly between similar units. When the going gets tough, Colorado leads the way." This is a direct quote from the Garmin website, that's why I bought it. The 60 series says essentially the same thing with slightly different wording, so that is exactly why you keep reading these comments over and over ..........it doesn't live up to it's description............. "
  16. I agree with you 100 %, as an outdoor entusiast it is a definate step backwards from my current 60csx. I'm on my third unit and still have stability issues, what were the main reasons you returned your initial units and how did you finally know when you got a unit you can trust to keep.
  17. I just bought the energizer 2500mA car/home charger. If I buy 2700 mA batteries can i charge then in this charger?
  18. i was thinking the same thing............definately using sd card...........only using map source CDN topo..................hmmmmm......
  19. Can i relate.......I'm on my 3rd Colorado so I was pumped to upload a new release..........same thing..............dead in the water...........I'm trying to make it work but I only have so much patience.......
  20. Just got my third Colorado 300............can't get it to even turn on...............same problem as # 1 , #2 had a different problem.................come on Garmin...........used to be Garmin fan
  21. You need to update to the latest 1.31 version and they should show. The Colorado shows type 0 roads as white, so Ibycus changed them to type 6 in version 1.31 1. Download and run http://www.ibycus.com/ibycustopo/download/MapUpdate.exe 2. Click "Check for updates" When I ran the update exe I got the error message, "Component 'MSCOMCTL.LOX' or one of it's dependencies not correctly registered: a file missing or invalid" I'm running it on the xp computer I loaded the maps on (successfully)
  22. I'm from Calgary............maps are great. Just curious why the city and town roads (calgary for eg. ) on the colorado aren't showing up. My theory is there the same colour as the background.
  23. Actually I don't have any topo in the US yet. They are just street maps. Eventually I'd like to have the possibility of contours, but I've got to find the right dataset to work from (in particular it needs to be set up in such a way as to allow bulk downloads) I can't get the exe to run on my computer with Vista, works great on xp, has anyone been able to get it to work on Vista (might be one of the many settings I have wrong).
  24. On the Colorado you can view your current tracklog (most recent 10000 trackpoints) and one saved track (up to 10000 trackpoints) at the same time. You can have many more saved tracks loaded but only one is visible on the map page at a time. Colorado is much better than the 60cs (no x) that I have which would be similar to your 60c. I think the previous post was referring to the 60csx which I cannot make a comparison with. GO$Rs absolutely. the 60csx and the Colorado are miles better than the 60cs, I've just found in cases with heavy cover the 60csx out performs the Colrado ( I still use both units on all trips mainly because of the instability of the Colorado)
  25. Sounds like the Colorado is getting the higher marks. Going to have to check the comparison info out. When you say you can dump the PDA in favor of the Colorado, how much can you load on there? Previous logs? Hints? And what about mapsets? We bought City Navigator for the MAP60C and really like that (but need to upgrade). Does the Colorado offer such a thing or is it built in? If the Colorado has the mapsets included then the cost difference isn't that much compared to a MAP60CSx + City Navigator....[/quote I own both but tend to do alot more outdoor activities like hiking, boating, quading ect. than geocaching. Unfortunatley the Colorado has some important shortcomings you need to know about. - it's reciever although "high" sensitivity is not as good under cover as the 60csx ( I've done tons of tests) - at this point it is unable to display multiple tracks - it's battery use is much worse than the 60csx - no wavpoint averging - dim screen - can't measure distance from position with cursor It sounds great for geocaching but for outdoor use it is abit of a pain, hopefully these can be fixed with updates.
