  1. I asked our local reviewer that very question. His reply was, in part, "My guess is that finds overrides owned when that map is displayed." I guess the next step would be to ask Groundspeak. Surely they could make the change.
  2. For the notice you are looking for just Google "geocaching stash note". I got 34,900 results!! FYI the notice is call a "stash note".
  3. Place them in the "Profiles" folder. The existing ones are 240 x 400 pixel JPGs. In the System menu, you can pick select one of them as the background picture. The pictures I want are in my "pictures" in my computer I want to upload them into my Garmin how do I do that On a Windows computer you should be able to open the folder with your pictures, open the Garmin, find the picture you want on the Garmin, click it with your mouse, and drag it from the computer to the Garmin.
  4. I ran into the same thing when I tried to send a message to a CO.
  5. It is back up and running in East Central Florida now.
  6. I could not log in to the forums until just a second ago. Maybe the main site is back up now.
  7. I partially agree, sometimes it's the proud moment when you solve a puzzle and then find the cache. What irks me are ones way, way to difficult to almost impossible and ones where the hide is almost as difficult as the puzzle. (cough, cough....like one of mine) That reminds me of a puzzle I worked on. Most codes have a set standard solution for that code (A=1, B=2, or ... = S, --- = O etc.) When I contacted the CO about the solution I discovered he had his own "standard" (A=5, B=2 etc). That one irked me the most.
  8. Most of mine are kayak, canoe, and/or 4X4 hides. We don't own any. I did have many puzzles on our list, but lately some of them have been taken off the list. I was forced away from geocaching for several months. I spent the time learning a lot about puzzle caches.
  9. I have almost lost interest in FTFs because of discussions like this. It isn't a competition! Like someone said, I would rather make a friend that add a silly number to my stats. How far away were the other cachers? How many seconds did it take for them to get to GZ? How old were they? How many caches had they found? Did they use black ink, blue ink, a stamp or a sticker? All of these things are VERY important if you are going to give up the honor of FTF.
  10. I'm not anywhere near Niceville/Fort Walton Beach. If I'm correct you need someone in northwest Florida.
  11. I agree completely. Everything was much better than I expected.
  12. There is nothing on the back except the pin and clasp. Maybe it is something done in Mexico only. Thanks for the replies.
  13. Yes. Sorry I didn't do it sooner.
  14. I have a silver pin about an inch in diameter that I traded for in Mexico. The center has one of the X type geocaching logos and around the outter edge are the words, "Geocaching.com" and "You are the search engine". Does anyone have any informatin on this pin? I don't know if I want to keep it or trade it. I have a scan of the pin if anyone needs or wants to see it. Thanks
  15. From the web site: "Free Registration Free registrations do not include a meal or registration materials. Depending on the amount of support by paid registrants, free registrations may not include a printed badge or badge holder."
  16. What???!!!! I can't believe everything I read on the internet??? You mean to tell me all that money from Nigeria isn't coming? The guy on facebook swore to me it was all true.
  17. I have sent several messages about caches that were broken, missing, half missing, burned, etc. In most case I have emailed the CO and received a reply to log it as found. That is the way to make friends. So, why delete a log from a newbie that probably doesn't know any better? That really is a slap in the face. I have had one log deleted and I can tell you it might have been "right", but it certainly wasn't what I expected since it was a FTF and the tether broke making it impossible to obtain or sign the log. My favorite log along these lines is "Found the lid. Thanks for the lid."
  18. "There is a setting somewhere....." The "somewhere" is one reason I stay away from facebook. IMHO the settings should be as tight as possible as a default and let those who are willing to let all 5000 of their close friends on facebook see their information.
  19. That's correct. Move it so another geotrail is created that we can all complain about. Seriously.. a question. Is it better to continue to utilize the trail already formed or move the cache so a whole new trail is created? With a popular cache geotrails are going to form. Yesterday I saw a log I loved. "Is that a crop circle or a geotrail". If the cache is for very young children I say leave it alone and give them more chances to find it.
  20. Not that it will do one bit of good, but count me among the group against facebook being the primary log on. Groundspeak should be a little more "elite" and not follow the herd. I also agree that events should be handled on GC.COM. That is the proper place for that. It has no business being spread all over the world on a social network.
  21. Maybe the DNF icon could be square. I don't want a blue map! (Can you tell we log a lot of DNFs)
  22. Here is the fix I received from a member of this forum. "Hmm, so you hate the new maps eh. Well if you use Firefox there is a fix. Go to the addons menu under tools and search for greasemonkey. It allows you to run scripts. Then install this script http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/109145" Thanks 5Taylors> This morning I found you can even make Google maps the default.
  23. I just logged a find at http://coord.info/GC3AFX3. When I scrolled out the icon changed to a smiley. When I scrolled in it changed back to not found. When I scrolled in again it changed again to found. I assume from that that each view of the map is cached here. The maps this afternoon do seem to be responding a bit better than they did this morning.

    Dancing icons

Where do the icons go? They are there until I zoom. They then disppear, or only half an icon is shown. Then I move the map over and there are icons where I know there are no caches. I zoom and that may or may not correct the problem. It would be nice is the icons would display where they should be displayed and not come and go and move all over the map from time to time.
