  1. I was very interested in letterboxing also. I've just finished carving my own set of rubberstamps to use, one to take with me, and one for a cache I'm planning to make in my own area. When...not sure, but at least I have the stamps now! :-) Is there a central site to post clues/locations of the letterbox as there is with geocaching? Thanks for the help for this newbie, Angela <><
  2. And let's not forget the old "classic" Treasure Island. A multi-cache to be sure, and difficulty 5 since it required a boat and sea-voyage to get to. Of course, the bony finger clues would be a little weird in real life but.... BTW ~ To the homeschooling family, too lazy to scroll back to the beginning and get your name. I homeschooled all the way through high school. Fun how parents can turn interesting hobbies into learning opportunities, eh? Angela <><
  3. If I had to hike a decent hike I would definately go far it. I grew up with a dad who loved the outdoors so we were the family that would take the LONG way to the viewpoint at the TOP of the waterfall, etc. That sort of thing. 5+ miles was not anything new for us, even in grade school. We learned the cleanest of dad's old Marine Corp marching songs and off we'd go, trail mix and water bottles in tow. If it was something I'd have to have special eq to get to I might think twice. Although come to think of it, my brother has rapelling gear I might be able to bum from him. Hmmm.....But generally speaking....the GPS system dh and I just bought off ebay was investment enough! So I guess the answer is Yes and No. I'm very glad that the hard cache's exist though because I personally enjoy a challenging "quest" to set myself against. And hiking through the woods with my husband on an all day adventure is definately a treat to me! :-) But monetary investment for special equipment or whatever would be a little too much for me at this point in time. 4. VERY cool! I didn't realize all the various features you can have on a GPS system or how to use them. Glad I read this thread since...um..yeah....manuals. I don't do manuals. Anyway, I just picked up a Magellan SporTrak Map off Ebay for a good price (came with the Mapsend Topo software and PC cable, etc). So I'm glad to see what other stuff it'll be able to do! :-) Can't wait until it gets here and my hubby and I can get out hunting caches! Angela <><
  5. Oh God, I hate nettles. I have bad nettle memories. My favorite sport growing up was football...not sissy football...TACKLE! Ha! But one day we were playing a pick up game in a big open field near my friends house and I managed to throw the ball away (I always QB'd) but still got tackled. And then HE got tackled and I was rollin' around on the ground for awhile. Finally got up and felt like I was being eaten alive...I had bumps everywhere! *shivers* Give me a big noticable rash plant anyday..... God I hate nettles. Angela <>< P.S. If you take pets with you while caching watch out! The oils can get on a dogs fur and be transferred to humans that way also! A little FYI just to keep the post not completely off topic. *wink*
  6. I know it is rather larger but would a big icecream tub (the kind you can buy at Walmart with the plastic lids) work ok? For a larger cache I mean. I ALWAYS have extras of those. hehehehehe Angela <><
