  1. FTF, if thats your thing why not. To everyone the game is different. I enjoy being FTF but it isn't my sole goal either!
  2. I like the idea and would love to hear how it turns out with whatever method you use to do it, so please be sure to fill us all in.
  3. Just my $0.02 worth, Limit micros, everyone likes cache with swag! even if it isn't trackable, the kids love opening a swag filled cache to discover what others have left. Micros have their place and can be used in cool ways or difficult muggle ridden locations as a challenge to cachers. .... but most of all be creative..... .....cool creative caches are the way to favorite points!!
  4. Is there a good toupee? toupee or not toupee..... that is the question!
  5. Welcome to the sport and the forums.
  6. its about numbers.... its not about numbers.... you know to each his own!!!! What is important to one geocacher might not be to another and at the end of the day that should be fine with all cachers. If jane likes to track numbers and jack don't I don't think either jane or jack will suffer from the others reasoning..... just sayin
  7. I love going after FTFs not to post that I have them just gives a little edge to the sport something to shot for, by no means is it my prime mission in life just something extra, another aspect to keep it all interesting.
  8. The 3G is known for having poor GPSr reception compaired to the iPhone 4 and most hand held unit. Yeap, i plan on upgrading next month to a 1phone 4 so i will be able to say for sure then!
  9. I use both an iphone 3g and a Lowrance endura safari GPS. Now the iphone can be frustrating at times but I think that is due to mine being 3 years old so I use it just for the geocaching app to log finds and such and the GPSr for navigation..... But I want to stress what others have said..... it is more about the journy than the find!!!!!
  10. I agree with the muggle theory but I also feel it treats those who have upgraded to the cherry on top effect. You can't go see a movie for less than the price of admission to have a premium membership and the rewards last for a year so you get a little something extra for buying in.
  11. I know that there are a bunch of lowarance haters here but I have the endura safari and I love it, now with the new firmware upgrade multi-caches are not an issue any more.
  12. I love the idea of Achievement souvenirs. It would not just have to be about numbers, that could only be one part of it but you could have them for each of the different type of caches as well as ter/dif star rating awards. The sync it to FB and twitter would be very cool too.
  13. I am in the same boat, i love my endura for many reasons but was let down by the multi-cache issue.... i can't wait to get home and update my unit..... I am very happy about this.....
  14. Ok i have been playing with this one for a little while and I have not been able to identify the font used.... i am sure that if I could do that then I would be on to something. I am currently at work so am a little limited.
  15. Not as of yet. Somewhere there is a topic on this issue and us Lowrance owners are waiting for a software upgrade to fix this problem. This makes it difficult when setting way points on the fly..... if the cache is loaded as GPX file from a PQ this doesn't happen.
  16. woke up before dawn.... packed a thermos full of coffee..... At 6am i left the house in route to GZ. I pulled up in front of the church and checked it all out... no muggles all was peacful so i set out to look for the cache. the compass told me I was about 120' from GZ and pointing behind the church. when I got to within 15' of GZ I seen i had my work cut out for me.... tall grass and a brick pile was going to make this one fun. After about 10min of digging I decided to go back to the car and get the information I had printed about the cache to see if it had a clue...... and then that is when it went down hill.... standing behind my car was the Macae police..... they wanted to know what I was doing..... the spoke almost no English which made this situation even worse. They thought maybe I was dropping off drugs and working with local gangs.... after they searched the area I was in and was happy that I wasn't a gang banging drug lord they decided to let me go.... they confirmed what I already thought... this place was no place for a "gringo" to be snooping around... the gangs are bad in the area and they pack heat... the told me that I needed to move along and they didn't want to see me around there any more..... It sure is a shame i was not able to find this Cache but it must just not be for me to find. I am going to have to walk away from this one defeated for now and maybe for good. Peace out!
  17. One of the coolest yet had little to do with the container but was all about the hide. the title of it is "ring my bell" and at GZ (in the middle of the woods mind you) on a tree is a door bell and when you ring it the chime is in the cache. There is a great story behind our FTf of this chach at 2am but that is for another thread mb.
  18. back to present time. I have since scoped out the area and see that the Cache is hidden behind a Church on top of the cliff I attempted to scale. I made a pass by the Church late one Sunday afternoon and I guess being a Church it was rather busy. The plan now is at day break tomorrow I will set off on my quest again.... stay tuned!
  19. As some of you may know I work in Brazil in a small costal oil town named Macae on a 28 day on and 28 day off rotation. I have been working on shore here for about 1 year or so and now it is time for me to go after GC1N72J. 30 days earlier...... I was at the local police station getting my work visa extended in down town Macae. I had recently uploaded the gpx data for GC1N72J into my phone and due to my wait time of about 2 1/2 hours decided that 2 miles was not too far to stroll to try and nab this cache. My phone does not support turn by turn in south America so I had to rely on the software’s compass to lead me up and down the congested roads in the central area. It was a sultry 100 degree temp out but I was determined to find my first international cache. After about 1.5 miles of ground covered I was getting to what I would call the wrong side of the tracks and well my use of the native language will let me tell some one good morning and 1 more beer please... so needless to say I was getting a bit nervous but I pushed on. By my compass I had made it to within 1,000' to ground zero which happened to be at the bottom of a very steep embankment as down town was well behind me.... I started up the face of this cliff with Brazilian on lookers thinking only God knows what. I didn't make it far when I checked my phone for the time a seen where I had less than 45 min to make it back to the police station.... to my anger and dismay I abandoned my quest and headed back. Not taking clues from Hansel and Gretel I had not left no kind of breadcrumb trail to assist in my return but with about 2 min to spare I got back.... soaked to the bone and huffing and puffing to pick up my visa and return to my office..... Defeated this day I was but I am determined.... which brings me to round two.... stay tuned.
  20. I have seen some cool profiles on geocaching.com and I would like to spruce mine up with stats and all that cool stuff..... badges...... bling....... can someone point me in the direction of how to do this?
  21. I tell you i had a similar start the family had just about given up hope but I can tell you what there is some great advice given in this thread. I too was using a nuvi at first. A good GPS will help you get there but once there it is time to use the eyes. Oh and someone else has said this already but read the recent logs, check and see if the cache is even still there!
  22. Something else I love about being a premium memeber is the premium member cache listings and also the notifications. I love to go after the FTF and there is no other way to get that information faster than setting up a notification. Also as someone else stated everything can't be for free, so you have to pay a little for the work that has been done here, seems a small trade off to be honest. I consider things like say..... TV..... I pay more monthly for TV than I do yearly for my membership here and to be honest there are days that my TV doesn't get turned on but I can't remember a day that I was not on this site.... oh and it is nice to come here and not have adverts poping up and clogging the bandwidth.
  23. I would also like to add why I feel it is a good upgrade, it gives you the ability to enter a new way point on the fly into the GPS for puzzle and multi-caches. I too used the iphone and geomate jr for awhile and my son and I found all or our caches up to date in that manner but now that we made the leap to a little more powerful GPS... (we bought a lowrance..... do not make that mistake!) we are happy.
  24. Congratulation on your first find. I don't have many finds myself but the full app is worth it even if you get a full blown GPS, even with a paperless GPS unit the Iphone app is still a good tool for getting the info on a cache that mb is not uploaded on your GPS.
