  1. After a couple of weeks using the 400t extensively on vacation in New Zealand, I've concluded that the new Colorado is fantastic! I used it for navigation while driving (using the NZ Open Source maps), while hiking in dense rainforests, geocaching and walking around cities and it performed without fail. Coming from a 60CS, paperless geocaching is worth the price of admission alone! Once they fix a couple of wonky functions (can't reposition a waypoint, no tide tables for future dates, etc.) I'll really be jazzed. 400t or 60CSx? I would pick the 400t with no hesitation.
  2. Magellan Trailblazer, circa 1994. There's an XL version on eBay now for $9.95! Since then, I've been through an eTrex, 2 eTrex Vistas, a 60CS and now a Colorado 400t. I have factory nav systems in both cars and I still keep a Thomas Guide in the trunk!
  3. It's always interesting to see new organizational approaches. I use the plastic boxes which hold four AA NiMHs from Thomas Distributing and am always juggling batteries for GPSs and external camera flash units. My charged batts go into the plastic cases pointing alternating pos/neg directions and spent batts go in all pointing the same direction. Marking matched pairs is an excellent idea - I may have to be better about doing that.
  4. Hi All! I am the owner of the Murals caches and thought I would provide some insight. Those multiple logs were logged _before_ the "one find per cacher" rule was in place. Policies for locationless caches were not as well-developed as they are now. I spoke to J and company to address some of the problems and possible solutions specific to locationless caches. This resulted in some of the current normal locationless cache rules. So, those multiple finds were "grandfathered in" and a new rule was put into place to prevent them in the future. I'm glad that some of you have enjoyed the murals found in these cahces. I continue to be amazed at the positive response I have gotten. I am also amazed at how much "policing" a locationless cache requires! TVN
  5. The Columbia Convergence of Geocachers will be held in Columbia, SC on Sunday, May 26. See this link for more details!
  6. I agree, this would be pretty complex to add as a feature of the site. When I want to find the caches along a route I either use the map view or, to be really geeky, I import all of the caches into Streets and Trips. Then, I can see all of the cache locations overlayed on a map with my route and even add each location as a "stop". In this case, S&T optimizes (sometimes) a route including all of my cache stops. With a little tweaking, I have found it to be pretty efficient.
  7. Here is the one I had done. I didn't get much response to the old post but I still think it would be neat to see a few of these in car windows when I pull into a parking lot.

    Passworded Logs

Password protection for "Found It!" logs is a great idea that I have been hoping for for quite a while now. On the "Hide a cache" page, the hider puts a password in a new field called...ummm...password. The same password is in the physical cache (in the log, etc.). When the finder posts the find, their password must match what was entered on the "Hide a cache" page. Virtuals could be handled the exact same way. Sounds like a piece of cake programming wise. Are there any issues that we may not have thought of?
  9. I think may have created a monster with this one. The Scavenger Hunt Cache

  11. Here's another locationless cache. Hopefully I can create a gallery from all of the logs. Enjoy! Murals Across America (darn typos!) [This message was edited by TVN on April 01, 2002 at 11:33 AM.]

  13. What is the consensus about cachers who post links to their personal sites which contain *complete* spoiler information? The examples I have seen include very specific cache locations and even final coordinates and solution keys for multi-caches. What should be done?
  14. I'm not sure about the "handing off" of a cache - it can be done by Jeremy and his folks pretty easily when caches need to be adopted. Joint ownership would be a *great* feature to add. Good idea Jon!

  16. Shouldn't this be: 30 + 21 - 29 16 - 20 10 - 15 Less than 10 Otherwise I could select 15-20 or 20-30 if I had found 20. Anyway, my personal record is 15 and I was hoofing it. I have done multiple 8, 9 and 10 days though. I guess the caches are spread a little thinner around here as compared to some areas.
