  1. We are planning on visiting Los Angeles (around the area of North Ridge) in the coming months. It's easy to see that there are a lot of caches in the area, but what I want to discover are short and/or easy hiking trails around this area that are enjoyable. My favorite types of hikes are those that take you some place unique, but I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks in advance for your help.
  2. Is there a channel on the CB radio that is designated for Geocaching? I know they are outdated now that cell phones have arrived, but I know I’m not the only geocacher in the USA that still uses one. It’d be nice to chat with other geocachers while on trips and geocaching adventures; since most of the time it’s just truckers who don’t want to bother with “4 wheelers.” Before posting this topic I looked to see if I could find any other posts regarding this, but I could only find the frequency for FRS and PMR radios. I don’t think these types of radios are compatible with CB radios, but then again I could be wrong. If I’m wrong and you can get FRS/PMR channel frequencies on your CB (that are connected with geocaching) then I would very much like to know which channel it is. Thanks in advance for your responses.
  3. The Denver Post Newspaper printed a story online today that gave a negative impression of geocaching: http://www.denverpostbloghouse.com/washing...s-public-lands/ After you read it, feel free to post your thoughts and opinions concerning this issue. It may also be in the interest of geocaching if you post your comments on the Denver Post website, so that non-cachers can see our point of view.
  4. Isn't that also tossedsalad's avatar? I looked and he does have the same avatar. I'm not too worried about it though, since I've had the avatar for close to 2 years, and from what I can tell about tossedsalad he has had it for close to a year; but, honestly, does it really matter? Thanks to Sputnik 57 on giving me the answer to this question.
  5. Can someone please tell me what an APF Project cache is?
  6. Wow, 19 miles...that's a dream to me. I placed my very first TB in a cache and it hasn't moved yet. It's been about a year and the person that has it appears to have quit geocaching. My other TB has traveled a whopping 35 miles. The way my luck has been with TBs I don't think I'll buy anymore. If I do I'll be sure to make it a virtual TB. I think this is a great idea, because there's nothing to get lost and it can be tracked the same way a regular travel bug can be tracked.
  7. I believe I once heard that it is possible to make some extra cash in some parts of the country by searching for downed weather balloons. You go to a website, accept the conditions to search for it, and they give you the last known coordinates. I was wondering if anyone had any information on this or if I'm thinking about something that doesn't even exist? Any information would be helpful and thanks in advance.
  8. Thanks to everyone that responded to this post. My question has been answered and I've learned a lot in the process. Although I don't think I'll be getting back to Yosemite anytime soon (due to the fact that I live in Colorado), I'm glad that I had the chance to find some caches and a benchmark. Thanks again.
  9. Recently I visited Yosemite National Park and found a benchmark while on a hike between the Grizzly Giant and Fallen Tunnel Tree located at the museum. There's a drinking fountain at this location with a benchmark designated as 54B. The coordinates for it are: N37 30.862 W119 35.966. Unfortunately when I visited the geocaching site to log it there wasn't a benchmark to fit this description. Can somebody answer this question?
  10. Does anyone know where you can go on the web to find latitude/longitude coordinate for landmarks? I know you could get the approximate coordinates off of a map, but is there any place that gives them to you exact. For instance, once the weather warms up a bit I would like to hike up Pike's Peak (Colorado) and I'd love to know the coordinates for the top of the peak so that I can enter them into my GPS and know the distance to my destination. Thanks.
