  1. Personally I would like to see Virtuals back and micro caches banned. Most of the P&G's any more are completely pointless except to the "numbers" bunch. Virtuals took me to many interesting and historical places that I would have not seen otherwise. Granted I didn't log all of these but I did appreciate most of them. So what if every historical marker becomes a Virtual? Waymarking is a failure. Talk about a bunch of useless destinations. In our small town the ugly one story brick post office built in the 60's is listed. Every church whether they are historically or architecturally significant. Three people listing the same thing? There is no control here at all it seems. With some basic guidelines and a reviewer who would take it seriously Virtuals could be revived. For people who don't like them there are filters! I don't like having to maintain two seperate accounts to keep track. That is why I don't use the Waymarking site.
  2. I got it right off. Being from a small farming town in Kansas I know my duct tape & baling wire and have degrees in their usage.
  3. I believe this entire series has been archived.
  4. 144 No, not how many show on my profile. Trust me, that number has little resemblance to how many caches I've found. Oooh, I understand. Same with us. We have probably not logged more than we have. We have driven up to many that we could tell exactly where they are but didn't see the use in it. Have walked up & actually seen the "cache" (term used loosely in a lot of cases) but didn't even bother to pick it up. Written on the log and then either didn't see the point, forgot or was just too lazy to go online. Numbers mean nothing to us. Looking for some kind of challenge or show me something I haven't seen before!
  5. Mostly due to health issues (bad ticker) and the poor quality of most caches these days I had a nearly 3 year break that just ended. With limited energy it just wasn't worth chasing all these crappy little film canisters hidden at a road sign. I did have a few during this time but didn't get around to logging them (not a numbers guy). I got a new Spark-O-Matic installed a few fews ago seemingly giving me more energy so Geocaching starts again crappy little film cans and all!
  6. Garmin Colorado 400T Garmin Etrex (old one before WAAS) 2-Garmin GPS V's Nuvi 1690 Nuvi 205 Street Pilot 330c 2-Samsung Focus (Focii ?? )
  7. To us it is NOT about the numbers. We are far from prolific GCr's & that's the way we want it. I like what we do when we do it too much to make it work as I suspect it is for many with big numbers. That said we are both loggers & non-loggers. If I find a cache to be particularly lame or uninteresting I may or may not take the time to log it. Some just don't deserve the effort. The quality of the hide has diminished severely in the last 2-3 years. We probably would have 1/2 again more if I had logged them all.
  8. You say one of them was a Noob? Were they maybe saying it was THEIR first found & NOT a FTF??
  9. I'm considering taking this to a new level. What degree of difficulty should I assign to a possum cache? How about a skunk cache?? I did see a badger the other day. Hhhmmmm.
  10. I'm pretty sure battery is a crime. Stealing a cache or putting up sticker that may seem to impersonate an official action might be crimes but I doubt they would be considered anywhere near a serious as assault or battery. Yet another PC wimp. Sometimes an individual just needs the crap beat out of them & deservedly so. Society was a whole lot more polite when I was a kid. If you needed smacked around you usually got it. You thought twice about being an idiot back then. Anyway, I do believe that I do have the legal right to protect property (here in KS anyway, YMMV) & that it would NOT be considered a crime. Besides, he swung first!
  11. If a cache is placed with proper permissions would not removing it be theft? Isn't the sign falsely alluding to having some official capacity? I would report these as crimes & have the dirt bag prosecuted if caught. Personally, I'd beat the crap out of him if I caught him.
  12. Early on it was an original Etrex ( no WAAS) & paper printouts. Then it was the Etrex & a GPS V for routing & paper. About 3 years ago I added a HP PDA to go paperless. Now it's a Colorado 400T for everything.
  13. Garmin Colorado & Oregon series. I have the Colorado 400T. I have a couple of PQ's that I run weekly. I takes about 30 seconds for me to update the GPSr with the new PQ. I then have descriptions, hints, logs, etc. all at my finger tips. It still kind of seems like cheating to me as I started with a original Etrex (non-WAAS) & paper!
  14. Geocaching is my least expensive hobby by far. Try buying a 5th wheel & the truck to pull it with for traveling. We backpack too. If we lost our packs we would be out probably about $2k. I don't even want to know how much money I have wrapped up in amatuer radio gear. I sure don't want the YL to know! Shooting: Guns, ammo, reloading supplies, misc gear. Don't ask! Dogs: One in Conformation, one in Obedience. Again, I don't even want to know how much. Nope, Geocaching has the most bang for the buck by far!
  15. Most of my finds have been with an early model Etrex (without WAAS). I now have a Colorado & it gets me no closer than the old Etrex does. I still throw the waypoints on the Etrex just for backup. Sentimental value I guess. I kind of feel like I'm cheating with the Colorado sometimes with the easy access to all the information. Simpler can be more challenging & more fun!
  16. On a lake just north of me there is one out on a small island (canoed out for that one) & one chained to a log underwater for scuba divers (can't hold my breath that long).
  17. Another one pleads guilty. We are just not into the numbers game. Not only have we not logged some online, we have found some we didn't even feel the need to sign the log. Some were just too lame. A couple of times we have been caught without a writing utensil. So sue me!
  18. For Geocaching I love my 400T. They have worked out most of the bugs & are improving it all the time. I love the Geocaching functions & the way it interfaces with the Geocaching.com website. Garmin support is much better also.
  19. Yep, I just unzip & extract directly from the email to the gpx folder on the 400T. Works great.
  20. Springfield XD45C strongside IWB & Ruger LCP in pocket holster in lighter clothing. With jacket/coat add a Redhawk .44 Mag in shoulder holster weak side.
  21. A lot of the time it is TNLN because I drive 3 different vehicles & my Geocaching backpack is usually in one I'm not in! (GPS is always with my radio/personal protection device bag). When I do have it I leave caribiners (I have a ton of old ones from work), toys/trinkets for kids, tennis balls for dogs & our personalized wooden coins. I have left some of the $1 DVD's you can get now & such. I usually only take others wooden coins & caribiners as I collect them. If I know I will be out again soon or know I have a trip comming of some distance I will take/leave TB's.
  22. I did one yesterday in a small rural cemetery that was established in 1848 (that is very, very old for here in KS). It was discreetly placed well away for any graves. I like these old rural cemeteries very much. I spend time looking at names & dates. I can get a feel for the type of people who settled the area. Lots of history in some of these and history & geology is much of why I do this.
  23. If all people can do is fill their lives with empty accomplishments that is their problem. I compete within no one but myself in Geocaching so I personally don't give a rat's behind about false logging. It does make me doubt a lot of the numbers I see people putting up though. Especially those that all at once explode on the scene with hundreds & thousands of finds.
