  1. Well done Hornet Everytime I try to get to one in my area, I find it's already been "violated" by Snerdbe
  2. I was tempted to get a vest to do the "Middle Lane" cache in Lichfield. I tried 3 or 4 times to find it after being assured it was still there. Felt very dodgy sneaking around under peoples windows. Managed to borrow a vest from work but when I next checked the web page, the cache had been archived!....Doh!
  3. Very well done you lot Thanks for placing some great cache series' aswell (The Plough and Stencil Stash)
  4. I shall be watching avidly........so long as I get up in time . Well done for getting your film on the tele
  5. I have seen "the game" and fortunately can't play it coz my 'puters not up to speed Once it is though........
  6. If MarcB finds this link we're all doomed!!!
  7. Just an idea Deego. If you were seriously into walking before caching, and prefer walking to driving - why not have a go at a long distance path that has a few caches on it. Probably not a good idea at this time of year but a long distance path like Coast to coast, Ridgeway, or Penine way would take a bit of planning. Who knows, you might rekindle your interest a bit when you start looking at the route maps and spot caches nearby? Main thing is to enjoy whatever you do... Maybe after a short winters break you might feel invigorated in the spring.
  8. If you are just after something that will load web pages and give you a GPS position, you could try a "smartphone". Orange do the SPV E200 and the C500 and I'm sure other service providers offer similar products. A friend of mine was using his SPV E200 with a bluetooth GPS unit to run TomTom as sat-nav in his car. I often use my SPV E200 to access web pages (that I forgot to look at back at home ) whilst out caching. I believe the latest C500 has compatibility issues with TomTom or the GPS units, but "they" are working on it. I'm not sure exactly what smartphones and GPS units are capable of, but if your phone is due for an upgrade soon, you might be able to get one quite cheap. I've just upgraded from the SPV E200 to the C500 for free - you can't get much cheaper than that! Best of luck with your search. The best thing you can do is decide exactly what you want to be able to do and then go out and look at whats available to suit YOUR needs. (By the way £130 for an Ipaq 2210 is a BARGAIN, I paid £222 about 5 months ago!!!)
  9. I too use an Ipaq 2210. I have a compact flash card GPS unit and use Memory Map whilst "out in the nettles" . I use TomTom with the same CF card GPS unit and find the signal reception to be really good. You CAN go to specific co-ords with TomTom. It has a "map" feature on it and you can select "tools/ go to co-ordinates" and input specific co-ords to take you to a car park, lay-by or the cache itself (if you have a 4X4 ) The only down side is I think you can only enter co-ords in deg, min, sec, but memory map can change between systems instantly so its not really a problem. You can also create your own "Point Of Interest" folder with all the cache sites you could ever wish to visit. There are probably loads of other features on Memory Map and TomTom, but I haven't bothered reading the instructions yet! (probably never will )
  10. If you think some-one is shooting near to you, it is probably best to shout out and let them know you're there. It only takes one eager shotgun user to accidently shoot what they think might be a pheasant! (even though pheasants don't usually hide in bogs ) Just had a quick look at your caching profile... You have the best collection of caching photos I've seen . You must have been really patient to get the wildlife photos. The quality is really good, out of interest, what camera do you use? I have a Minolta Dimage Z1
  11. I use a HP 2210 with a compact flash GPS unit. I can load maps from the Memory Map software I have onto the SD card along with spoiler pics (if needed ) I have had no problems at all using the equipment and the GPS doesn't appear to use too much battery power. The company I bought it all from recommended a blue tooth GPS unit as it doesn't use the Ipaqs battery, but I thought I would probably lose it!! . I also use the same set up with TomTom running for Sat-Nav.
  12. I used to use a double D cell maglite for caching at night. The problem was, trying to open a cache, take photos and sign the log book etc with one hand. I decided to buy a head torch (Petzl Duobelt LED 8). It has 2 lamps, one halogen spot lamp for distance and a LED lamp with 3 brightness settings. The batteries fit in a pack which attaches to your belt so it makes the head torch very light. It was quite a pricey torch but cheaper ones are available (wouldn't be without mine though ) I also bought an in-car battery charger that charges AA batteries. The torch uses C cell batteries, but the charger came with a set of "converters" to enable the AA's to be used in the torches battery pack. The charger is by Uniross. By the way, I still take the maglite as back up .
