  1. The tricky bit is finding an accessible location at which to hide a cache within sane walking distance of the airport in question that isn't going to attract untoward attention from airport security... I work in an office less than ten minutes' walk from Gatwick South terminal. At the moment I can't think of a good spot in the area that is accessible to the public, unlikely to be discovered by accident, and safe from causing security concerns, but I'll keep my eyes open. How far away from the airport would be too far? Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk

For some types of cache (in particular virtual ones) it could be a useful option that would make things easier. No more messing about with emails to the cache owner (who may or may not respond) and so on. All the verification could be done in one place. Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk

  5. Even the rabidly-pro-Microsoft folks round here seem to think Passport should be avoided like the plague, and it is the brush that's tarred .NET the worst so far, but there do seem to be plenty of doubts being expressed about other aspects like security and lock-in too. How much of that is FUD, only time will tell... Oh well... Just so long as it doesn't degrade the availability or legibility of my favorite website... Purrs... 7. quote:I wrote the hider, and it turned out he had transposed some digits when posting the cache.Yeah, done that, twice I now make a point of downloading the waypoint for my new caches from the website and loading them into my GPSr to make sure the waypoint actually is where I hid my cache. The other side of that one is to make sure I download the waypoints just before going on a hunt, and not relying on waypoints downloaded a while back. I spent a while ten days back hunting caches for which I had positions that were hundreds of yards out.... Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk

  11. quote:Have switched back to Statute measurements and all is cured!Doing a "master reset" on my unit seems to have cured that particular shut-down problem, but I'm not convinced yet that it's cured them all, or just shifted things. It is however worth a try, if you have some way of saving your waypoints etc. beforehand and replacing them afterwards... Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk
  12. quote:How do you rate a cache where the site is easy to get to, the cache is easy to find, but retrieval carries a large risk factor?Bump the "Difficulty" rating up a bit, perhaps? Sounds like that one should have been (say) 4 on the difficulty rating because of the climbing needed... Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk

  14. Garmin Tech. support also suggested a master reset. This seems to have fixed at least some of the shutdown problems, but I think it may have introduced others... Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk

  16. If there are cubs/kits/pups in the area they may be into the "chew everything" stage, and anything unusual would seem interesting... ...and if there's not much food around they may just be chewing the container on the off-chance it contains something potentially nourishing. 19. quote:_Yards_ works good on my Vista, no problems.Garmin Tech. Support got back to me asking which particular parameters I have displayed on the Navigation window (which is the one that I'm trying to get to when the beast shuts down). I've sent them back the information ("Speed" and "Heading") and also a list of other occasions the beast switches itself off. Mostly they're whenever I try to display the "Navigation" window, but the strangest is when I try to turn the magnetic compass on by holding the "menu" button down. Turning the compass off doesn't tickle the problem. Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk
  20. quote:What if you go to the cords. and the cache isn't there? If I got to the co-ordinates and couldn't find the cache I'd log a Not Found. That frowny face stands out rather better than the note icon. If there was clear positive evidence that the cache had been plundered I'd make sure that got mentioned in the Not Found log entry, and if I didn't think I could put sufficient detail into the log entry (perhaps because it could give away too much about the hiding place) then I'd also send a private email to the cache owner...
