quote:Maybe the font needs to be a little bigger than font=1......or there's the drastic drive-folks-nuts solution: include the rating questionnaire on the "Hide a cache" page and not allow for simply entering numbers. ...but it would drive some folks mad, so the drawbacks most likely outweigh any advantages. Netscape 4.* on Linux, Solaris and M$W2k, depending on where I am. M$IE is banned at work. I expect I'll be trying some alternatives to Netscape at home some time, depending on what I can find working on Linux. Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk

quote:I have discovered that there are no boundaries as to the amount of HTML you can use on the Cache page. I have just been able to put Java in my page. You should find you can't include JavaScript and expect it to work. I prefer cache descriptions not to use any scripting at all. This topic has been well hammered in the General and geocaching.com sections of this BB. Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk

quote:how long an even cache page should remain unarchived after the event.I'd give folks with non-digital cameras a month or two to get things processed and scanned first. Don't know what the general policy is. Maybe ask in the General forum (or search to see whether it's been covered before)? Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk

Yep, "regular" covers almost the entire range in cache-sizes I've found so far. (I'd be very surprised to find that more than 5% of caches were larger than "regular".) I tend to think in terms of what sorts of (more-or-less) standard sized items a container will take: nothing much bigger than a guitar pick (micro) nothing bigger than compact cassette tapes nothing bigger than normal CD jewel cases nothing bigger than DVD or VHS video cases Purrs... *mutter* font size=1 *mutter* almost invisible in netscape... I just spotted the "5 most recent" wording under the "Upcoming Event Caches" heading. Though "most recent" implies "past" rather than "future", the "5" does sort of explain why the UK one on Sunday didn't appear until past midnight US-time, 'cos there were quite a few on Saturday. I guess, if there are more than 5 in a day that some will be unlucky and not get a front-page listing... Whatever... Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk

A couple of points on the event cache list changes: First, the list just seems to cover today's caches, based, I presume, on an American concept of "today". It's worth noting that in (say) New Zealand it is very probably already "tomorrow", so at least two or three days worth of event caches ought to be listed, or if only todays are to be listed then at least the time zone for each cache's location should be used to determine whether it should appear. I was trying to check on tomorrow's events in the UK... Second, I can't get the calendar to display cleanly in Netscape. The text on the left hand side tends to over-write the calendar itself. Might be at least partly a font issue. Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk

The "Yards" distance option still seems to have the odd unwanted side-effect. The one that bugs me is that the Altitude Display-by-distance scale seems to get stuck so that it runs from 0 to 0, which isn't very helpful. I havn't yet tried the full reset trick to see whether it clears up... Overall, it fixes more than it breaks, so if you're on 2.25 then it's likely a good idea to upgrade. Purrs... Ah, yeah... Guess so... :/ Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk

Locations where? I can select locations on the Trip page in the full-width fields in small numbers mode (but I'm indoors so can't check whether they work). The altitude display-by-distance plot doesn't seem to work if the distance measurement is set to "yards" though :/ Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk

quote:plus some others.Yep Looks like the "yards distance mode" is less prone to random shutdown. Well, all the ones mine used to suffer from don't cause a shutdown any more. I can use the "Course pointer" on the compass again Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk

I use the MapQuest links because they're there, but links to Streetmap would be good too. The ones on Rob & Lisa's page are excellent. Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk

quote:MS is great for forcing..er...making it easier.. for folks to play the Conform-or-Get-Cut-Out game. .Net can be used that way, but it does not have to.Yeah, I get bitten time and again by webservers out in the big bad wide world where the content has been prepared in such a way that it's "best viewed with ****" (for various values of ****). In some cases what that really means is "don't even bother trying to view this unless you're using ****". The mention of .NET raised that spectre for me, 'cos some corporate stuff in my company's intranet has been going that way... Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk

quote:but has anyone thought about "ARE YOU CARRYING ANYTHING FOR ANYONE?"Yep. If I've accepted something to take on a journey then I'm carrying it for me. On occasions when I'm asked to carry stuff on flights I always check what I'm asked to carry closely first. If I'm even slightly suspiscious then it doesn't go. With a TB I'd want to be absolutely 100% confident it was exactly what it appeared to be, and it'd also have to be extremely lightweight. No garden gnomes (likely too heavy), soft toys (could be stuffed with something illegal) or the like Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk

It's definitely broke. It's still showing that same image... I guess a broken web-cam is much the same as a missing cache container. I'd log a note or a not-found, and maybe also try to contact the cache owner. The cache page could do with some tidying up to get rid of the JavaScript that's no longer functional too.... Oh well...
