  1. quote:but it was too large to fit in the cache I'd hoped to place it in. I would have had to remove several large items in order to leave the bug.My solution to that was to drop the bug at the cache and then grab it again, adding something to the bug's story along the way. At least that way the bug was collecting stories, and it _had_ visited the cache in question, if only briefly. Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk
  2. In the end it's down to the cache hider. The Sherlock and Cluedo series are both sets of caches that each individually take a bit of finding, and having each step as a separate cache does make sense to me, as there's a fair distance between them. The Tomb Raider caches make sense as single finds though, as all the steps along the way are within sensible walking distance and could be found within a few hours. I havn't tried the Rainbow caches or the London Pilgrimage yet... Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk
  3. No contest, assuming a good description of the area would include some mention of where'd be a good place to park... Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk

  5. Not quite sure what's going on. I load my query (163.prc) and can see it in MobiPocket. I can browse the list of caches, and I can read some of the full descriptions, but others present me with a screen of garbage, and then the Palm freezes and it's bent paper-clip time... I'm using an m105 and MobiPocket 4.4 Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk

  7. quote:Instead of changing from the Piccadilly line (Blue) to the District Line (Green) at Acton Town do it at Hammersmith Baron's Court will also work (the platforms are at the same level), but Earl's Court is too late, because by that stage the Piccadilly is much deeper than the District, so you end up negotiating lots of escalators and passages... 10. quote:I can understand some delay. There's a difference between "some delay" and the original poster's "months at a time". It all comes down to what's reasonable. If a bug is going to stay in one place for months at a time then I (for one) would rather it spent those months in a cache (where it has at least some chance of being picked up) than on some cacher's mantlepiece (where it's got no chance of moving until said cacher gets out again)... I've no problem with a cacher moving several bugs at a time if they can make a good (developing) story out of it, including log notes in the bug pages.. Purrs... 11. Looks like it could be useful. A button for "My home location" might be a handy addition (I made a typo entering mine manually, and just got an empty list back. Well, there aren't too many caches in the middle of the Atlantic, if you discount the cluster at 0,0... Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk

  13. The problem is quite likely that, as well as the "I have it!"/"Making a note" selector, there is also a check box which controlls the grabbing of the bug. It seems to be _checked_ by default! If you don't un-check it you will end up grabbing the bug... Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk
  14. At the weekend I started with two TBugs, and visited four caches (three new finds, and a check-up on one of mine). I intended to come home with no TBugs, but the first cache was only big enough for the smaller one, and the other three were all too small or too full (or both) so I ended up bringing one TBug home. I logged it as a touch-and-go at each cache I visited because it seemed to me that they were all part of its story. It went there. It just didn't fit. Didn't seem fair not to record the visits... 15. Yeah, _insisting_ that TBugs be _traded_ for other TBugs would be dumb. The TBug population isn't nearly dense enough for that to work. Sure, if you've _got_ one to trade, then by all means trade, but if you havn't, don't let it stop you taking one, if you can help it along! TBugs need to be moving! Bug Hotels, OTOH, are a fun idea, especially if they're handy for an airport. It's good if there aren't _too_ many TBugs in each one at a time though. Purrs... 17. I've been told by my GPSr that I'm headed out over the North Sea to Spitzbergen at 1000mph before now, when I've been on my driveway, going nowhere. Put it down to weird multi-path and poor coverage.... Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk

  20. Terrorists are more likely to hide bombs in something that dees not look military. Paper or plastic bags, or cardboard boxes are much more likely containers, as they don't look quite so suspiscious, and objects like teddy bears and kids' lunch-boxes have been used as well. The main argument for tupperware etc. is that you can see into it without opening it (if it's the clear plastic variety) so it is easier to establish that a hidden container is innocent. Purrs... 22. The aim has to be to keep the cache hidden in exactly the same ways as it was originally hidden. However, changing seasons, weather and wildlife sometimes mess things up, and so do cachers who don't take care to put things back the way they were. The tricky bit is determining what the original state was. The only person fully qualified to put things right is the cache owner. The rest of us will have to guess, and sometimes we'll guess wrong. 23. quote:Personally, I don't want any of my bugs to EVER fall into one of those caches that require someone to exchange a bug for a bug, just because they'll have a harder time getting back OUT than they would of any normal cache.Yep. As it is, bug-only caches are less likely to be visited, and if folks have to find/buy/grab a bug from elsewhere before they can even consider a visit then bugs could get stuck in them for ages... 24. quote:I tend to think that the cheesy effects like sounds and funky backgrounds tend to detract from the whole experience.Yep. With you on that one. At least we don't have to deal with JavaScript any more though. quote:So, I think that the use of sounds/backgrounds should at least be strongly discouraged, and maybe banned altogether.Mostly they rely on browsers doing something sensible with broken HTML, and broken HTML should definitely be discouraged because it makes it more likely that some folks won't be able to look at the page at all... 25. With caches that are designated as Bug Hotels the chances are that I'll be visiting either to leave a bug or to collect a bug. If I'm leaving a bug and I can help one of the other bugs already in the Bug Hotel then I'd effectively be trading bugs... Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk
