  1. quote:I personally think the Maps were ok, they were only meant to give you an idea on location.==snip== Any map was better than no map in my view.. I'd agree. There might have been the odd occasions when there was no detail at all showing in the detaled map, however, and those were clearly useless. The ones on my caches had enough detail to be useful though. Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk
  2. quote:I thought this might be interesting.Wow, but you have an optimistic idea of how many it's possible to do in side 24 hours. I managed 4 once, but 2 of those were within 20 ft of each other... Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk
  3. Travel Bugs rely so much on trust, on folks playing by the rules. Unfortunately some folks can't be trusted, don't play by the rules, and spoil the game. Poor Lord Baltimore seems to have fallen victim to one such... Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk

  5. Is there any precedent for caches actually being deleted rather than archived? If a cache isn't available any more (for whatever reason) then it is archived. That's it. They're history as far as geocaching.com is concerned. Case closed.

  8. quote:For example, Lazy Leopard - you not a leopard (well your photo doesn't look like one), and presumably not you are not that lazy, as you like to get out and find geocaches.Way back in October last year when I was thinking about registering on geocaching.com, it just seemed most folks used a nickname rather than their "real" name. When I was trying to think of a suitable nickname it just tripped out. Or maybe I'm remembering a kids book I read to my nieces and nephews recently. Or something. Either way I liked it enough to grab a local domain incorporating it Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk

  10. It seems one of the problems with the import of threads from the old forums is that some threads have been mostly duplicated, though sometimes with some chunks missing. One version (usually the less complete, as far as I can tell) tends to have the date of its first post against it rather than that of its last post, so I guess folks are more likely to find the better copy... 12. quote:Has this now been posted as an event cache?El10t I don't think so. It would make sense for someone who knows the pub and who intends to be there on the day to create the event cache. Just tag a note in here to let us know it's in the system. Cheers Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk

  14. There are a couple of threads on this topic in the general forum worth looking at: how to create a good cache What makes a Great Cache great? Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk
  15. quote:It's called "The Goal House" (pronounced "Jail House") on Jewry Street. Same road as the Public Library and Theater Royal and close to the Station. Loads of parking not far away. Thanks. Sounds reasonable. Do you have a positional fix for it good enough to put in an event cache? Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk

  17. quote:But I'm not sure if it only works with IE It's a Microsoft-specific tag. On other browsers the tag should be ignored but the text within should all display properly without moving about... See, for example, this page. Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk
  18. I'd at least like the option to suppress the "Charter Member" bit. Only the site itself really needs to know. The only distinctions that seem relevant to the discussion forums are between guests, members and moderators. Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk
  19. quote:the sport would not get many new members if a fee of thirty dollars was demanded before you could start. Sure wouldn't. I do see some advantage in limiting access to those who have registered. I hope registering on the site remains free (as it is at present). Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk
  20. Some places it's just not sensible to hide anything, however well labelled. We had a discussion in the UK forum recently about caches placed in locations that (to a UK resident) were likely to cause problems. They were micro-caches in a railway station and an airport. Many of us have experienced travel delays as a result of bomb warnings and so on, and PA announcements about not leaving anything un-attended are made at airports and railway stations frequently. The concensus was that the caches should be removed (with the hider's agreement). If such a location nevertheless cries out for a cache then there's always the virtual cache option. Purrs... 21. quote:you get your ugly mug shot show too. Well, you did until Jeremy had to turn the new style back off because it had broken so many browsers. If you were using IE under Windows you were probably Ok. If you weren't, you got weirdness like black text on a black background, and fonts three feet high, and... InfoPop are working on fixing it, apparently... Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk
  22. quote:Just to make sure, does this look ok now? Yep, thanks, it's readable now. I expect (part of) the problem was that something was relying entirely on CSS, JavaScript, or some such. CSS is fine for refining the look of a page but if the pages don't display sensibly without CSS enabled then folks with older browsers (and folks who browse with CSS disabled) will have problems. 24. Oh boy! The gremlins have been busy at the design here. I'm getting black text on a black background, an excessive font size, and all sorts of other problems I never had with the previous incarnation of the forum.... I sure hope the gremlins can be worked out soon! Purrs... LazyLeopard http://www.lazyleopard.org.uk
