  3. The FYI about the NNJC buying ammo cans was just a comment to show that other groups are doing this in the country too. There are not any places in NJ to purchase ammo cans and cachers have had to buy any cans they can get their hands on via ebay. So you can imagine how excited everyone was when their shipment came in!!! They distributed them at their recent camping event. I only posted this comment because there was mention on this forum that there weren't any ammo cans at a recent auction and I thought that perhaps the NNJC could be helpful in sharing where they got theirs. Thats all. It was in no way intended to be a negative post. Certainly everyone appreciates all the efforts going into getting surplus ammo cans and I can only imagine all the work involved. I was just trying to be helpful.
  4. FYI - NNJC (Northern NJ Cachers) recently purchased 430 ammo boxes at a Govt. auction for $1.75 each....and sold them 8 for $20 or $2.50 each...at their recent camping event.
  5. Looks like it was Blood, Sweat and Tears to get that one!!! CONGRATS! You field cachin' hound!!!!
  6. WHOOHOO! You GO GIRL! Congrats @ hitting your 100th @ Rockin Ridgemont Park! CONGRATULATIONS DEBBIE!!! I am so happy to have passed the baton on to you! And you did it right behind - that is so very special!!! Enjoy the rest of your vacation! A big High-Five!!!! errr ONE HUNDRED!!!!
  7. Just a little explanation about the things available during the SCM2 - We wanted to have a little something for everyone.... as an option, not a requirement of the event. Hopes this provides a greater understanding of the whole picture! Event coins - we wanted to make a special remembrance for all those geocoin collectors, like those at other events across the country. We kept the cost down, took a risk and to date, we have not yet broken even. Event buttons - we made these available for those who could not afford or were not interested in the coin. They were offered at a reasonable price to offset their cost. Silent Auction - this has been popular at previous IE events - people bid on things they want and can get at a bargain (vs. unlike getting an unwanted item as a door prize). The items donated came out of the pockets of IE members with a few from Groundspeak. The intent of the auction was to provide a fun activity while trying to offset some of our Event costs. SCM2 CD - this was added at the last minute as a fun option for anyone wanting music to drive/cache by. It was not intended to be a money maker. Pit Stop Water and Snacks - with lack of funds, we decided on "donations" for this, for those who needed a quick convenient break We would have loved to give food away! (We had solicited for food donations at numerous places and were turned down.) With the pit stop "donations", we came close to breaking even for the water/snacks we purchased. Big Raffle item - REI provided the GPSr unit and their patio for the Pit Stop. They also provided REI discount coupons (which some people preffered over the water bottle we thought we were getting, and which most people already have.) In return, we are donating our time and providing sweat equity by teaching Geocaching 101 classes at REI this month. So, a lot of work, for a variety of items, offered to please a lot of different people... perhaps next time, folks will want souvenir T-shirts! Thanks for all your comments....
  8. No, eagsc7 took the REI cache and moved it to its permanent location. Yes, the cache is at its posted coordinates and there is a new log book in it, so I guess someone could theoretically get a FTF in its new location! Go for it!
  9. I might get turned around sometimes while out on the trails, but this is rediculous. Does Airway Heights have an REI store now? Hmm...since it's an "REI pit stop," maybe that means it is a Pit Stop to REI from Reardan. Clarification - Since Groundspeak doesn't allow caches to be at places of business, the one everyone signed at REI was permanently placed after the event in a different location) ... out in Airway Heights, The Steaks/eagsc7's hometown. Note the new name "Pitstop and take a view"! (a new location, the same cache that was at the REI pitstop)
  10. It looks like the REI Pit Stop was just posted, for those who stopped by during the SCM2 on Saturday - REI Pit Stop cache
  11. The SCM2 was a big hit!!! Just like a good book, it had a nice intro (welcome event), great beginning (group webcam), fun middle (great weather, lots of caches, friends and adventures, the REI pit stop), a fantastic climax (dinner buffet, birthdays, GPSr winner!), a fun anti-climax (group night cache) and a very happy ending! (lots of smileys to log!!!) [][][][][][][][][]!!!! Congrats to Rick Lewis, GeoDiver, of Lakewood, WA - winner of the Garmin eTrex Vista CX!!!! Thanks to REI and all the REI Pit Stop Volunteers - YAYA, Yellow Alligator, Liwolf, Lookout Lisa, The Steaks, Lady Stevenson, Moun10Goat, the two LLCools, Dream Cache R. Thanks to all the Call-A-Cachers - Eagsc7, Chumpo, MtnGoat50, LLCool, Lookout Lisa, Trevor and Kate, Dream Cache R Thanks to all who donated items for the Silent Auction - DMagoo, Chumpo, Kootenay Pirates, MtnGoat50, Eagsc7, Lookout Lisa, Dream Cache R, Groundspeak, (did I miss anyone?) and to Trevor and Kate for making the fun Event CDs and MtnGoat50 for making the special Event pins and to The Steaks for handling the Event coins. Thanks to the hard working Event committee and everyone who supported us locally and in the forums!!!- Eagsc7, Lookout Lisa, MtnGoat50, Trevor and Kate, Yellow Alligator, Dream Cache R..... Thanks to EVERYONE who attended and made the Spokane Cache Machine 2 a great success!!!
  12. Drive safely everyone! See ya all tonight!!!
  13. Here is a link to the eTrex® Legend CX GPSr we have for the drawing on Saturday night at 8PM. Tickets will be available for sale throughout the event. $1 each or $5 for six tickets. eTrex Legend CX Retails for $ 289.27
  14. The Night Route has not been scrubbed. It is an optional tail added by Steaks/eags7 and not reviewed by the SCM2 committee. Will have to forward this on to him. Thanks for pointing that out.
  15. The owner of GCC723 (SpiritOfNatureManitoPark) said he would have it up and running by this week-end. If not, I will put a temporary cache in its hidey hole so people can find it - only problem is that the cache page may not show that it is enabled, but I can write a log saying that it is active. So plan on getting this one!
  16. Update - The SCM2 planning committe met tonight to go over last minute details of the entire week-end. The SCM2 Route (PDF and DOC files by Lookout Lisa) were reviewed and will be bascially the same, with only a few cache additions/deletions. It had become obvious only yesterday that the Checklist and other listed files by The Steaks had not kept up with the SCM2 Route PDF and DOC file changes. So, they were corrected and will now correspond with the SCM2 Route PDF and DOC files. These updated files will all be posted on the Spokane Cache Machine 2 cache page by mid day tomorrow. When this is done, a notice will be made on the cache page and this forum. Any additional SCM2 information that comes up after that will be announced Friday evening and Saturday morning. Thank you for your patience and understanding, The SCM2 plannng committee PS - Please disregard the "Updated date" listed after the files on the cache page as it does not reflect any newly posted file, but instead seems to change every time The Steaks work on a file. Here's to a great caching week-end! Dream Cache R WSGA - Inland Empire Secretary/Treasurer
  17. Just to clarify - The Friday night 7PM Kick-off at the Kress in Riverpark Square (downtown Spokane) is a Dessert Pot Luck, not a dinner. There is an adjacent food court for those who want to come early to grab a bite of dinner. So, bring your favorite after-dinner finger foods - brownies, cookies, cupcakes, etc... then take the leftovers with you for the car the next day! (We will supply paper plates, napkins and "to-go" supplies.)
  18. Yup, that is exactly as planned!
  19. FYI - The SCM2 planning committee is meeting again on Wednesday night and there may be a few more unforeseeable tweaks that come out of it.
  20. In addition, the loops are meant to be driven in a clockwise direction to avoid traffic jams, etc.
  21. Well that is kinda of a slap in the arse, How about those of us that flat out hates and refuses to use paypal can you save a couple? Can I somehow mail you or meet someone before hand and give them the money? Hi Magking! Since I know you and I use paypal, I will buy them for you and you can pay me back at the event. Send me an email telling me how many you want. I don't want to start something, but if this is a hardship for folks, I will try to help out or perhaps other caching friends can do the same. Dream Cache R
  22. Thank you all that are interested in the Offical SCM2 Coin. The Inland Empire Chapter pretty much has non-existent funds and we are not getting any funding from any other entity. One of the brainstorms that the planning meeting had was to sell a SCM2 coin in order to help pay the overhead for the event. Since we have limited money to create the coins, there are a limited number of coins for purchase. If a person wants to Guarantee they will get a coin it is $9.00 via pay pal with $2.00 to cover the pay-pal expense and the handling (not shipping). = $11.00 If a person does not care about having a Guarantee they could possibly get a coin during the event for $9.00 plus $1.00 handling fee = 10.00 The handling fee is our Guarantee to make a dollar off of each sale in order to help pay for the event. Each coin costs us close to $9.00 a piece to make. Shipping, if need be, will be extra and could be negotiated with the seller of the coins "eagsc7" with the following considerations: international or local rate, and the number of coins purchased. The Coins are FULLY Trackable at geocaching.com. They also have their own coin-icon. Cachers that participate in the SCM2 WILL NOT have first dibs. People who purchase the coin via Pay Pal will have first dibs. At the event, it will be first come, first served for as long as supplies last. We hope this clears some things up. Thanks, The Spokane Cache Machine II Coin Committee (This message posted by Dream Cache R - IE Secretary/Treasurer for the SCM2 Coin Committee)
  23. Update - I had to release the room today due to not having the upfront monetary committment needed to hold it. The planning committee will continue to look for another place for those who would like to get together for an after dinner adult beverage during the SCM2 week-end.
  24. Yes, and from my previous post - Northern Lights Brewing Co (509) 242-2739 1003 E Trent Ave, Spokane, WA 99202 It is centrally located in the Gonzaga U district; has lots of parking and a big room that will hold a lot of people. (I think someone told me 70 or so). Their beer is good and they also serve food, if you need a late night snack or missed out at the Buffet.
  25. The SCM2 planning committee has tentatively reserved a room at the Northern Lights Microbrewery for Saturday night at around 8-9pm until ?, after the Old Country Buffet dinner at 6:30pm that night. The cost to reserve this room is $150 of which we could use to buy that much in snack foods. The problem is that we don't have the money to reserve the room. One suggestion was that we could perhaps charge $3 per person for the snacks and if 50 people were planning to go, then our costs would be covered. We need to know this answer ASAP! There is another party waiting with money in hand to reserve this room. QUESTIONS? Would you go for a brew on Saturday night of the SCM2 event? Would you be willing to pay $3 to help pay for the room, get snacks included. You may reply to this or send me an email. If there is not a lot of interest, then we will have to let the room go. Thanks! nnb720@msn.com
