  1. No we didn't. He was so embarrased to be so lost that he seemed anxious to get away. And we were anxious to find the cache!
  2. Thanks, that's what I was hoping!
  3. Thanks Keystone, that's what I wanted. I did notice the names on the bar, but it doesn't show the name of all the yellow ones, and I didn't want to use a green one without knowing what they represent!
  4. Is there a list of the emoticons used in these fourms? I know the basic ones, but many I don't know. And why are some green? I've found some emoticon "definitions" on the web, but not all the ones I see here.
  5. Last weekend we found the shelter where a cache was hidden. There was a muggle taking a break, so we chatted with him. He was hiking the trail around the lake, and asked us to confirm that he was about halfway around. We told him that he was only about 7% of the way around. He didn't believe us so DH whipped out our Garmin Vista and showed him where we were, and where the rest of the lake is. We finally managed to convince him that he'd only travelled 1.5 miles of a 22 mile hike! His parting words were "I've gotta get one of those!" Maybe we've brought another muggle into the light???
  6. I bought a travel bug, and I have a goal in mind. I started the registration process not realizing that I'd need to describe my bug. I don't have that yet. Can I just leave the description blank and enter it later? This is my first TB. Thanks!!
  7. Yes, I mean to use the PDA for paperless geocaching. Sorry I didn't make that very clear! I'm not very familiar with PDAs and don't know if one is better than another for this.
  8. May I piggyback a question in your thread? I'm considering buying a used palm for geocaching. Are some palms better for this than others? Are there certain features I will need? Thanks!
  9. I think I'm explaining this all wrong, mea culpa. What I'm doing is: I go to a website, like this one for Yellowstone NP: (http://www.yellowstone-natl-park.com/facts.htm) I find the coordinates of a spot in the park I go to Geocache.com and enter the coordinates to see the nearby caches Many websites use dms, so I need to convert them in order to enter them into the Geocache.com search. Is this not the way to do it???
  10. No kidding! I've only found 3, and I'm hooked for life!!
  11. Yes, I know I can change the units in my receiver. I need to convert when looking up sites on my computer. I guess I could look up the coordinates on the internet, then plug them into my receiver, then convert them, then enter them into Geocache.com. A lot of steps, however.
  12. Well, maybe I'm doing this all wrong! For example, I'm travelling to Yellowstone N.P. shortly and I wanted to check out caches there. So I went to Y.N.P. website and found the coordinates for the park, which were in D M S, but Geocache.com uses d m.m or decimal. No offense taken - if there's a better way, I'm willing to learn.
  13. That's exactly what I needed - thanks!!
  14. Hi; I'm really new at geocaching (one week), but I'm already hooked! Can anyone recommend a good website where I can convert one type of coordinates to another? Seems like everyone uses a different datum! Also, I see abbreviations in cache reports that I don't understand. I know what TNLN means, but I've seen others that I didn't. Is there an abbreviation or acronym dictionary on geocaching? Kris
  15. It DOES sound like a pipe bomb! In these scary times, it may not be the best container! Sounds like such a good one, though...
