  1. Easy steps to see this feature Bookmark Query All corrected coords Done
  2. They will. I add corrected coordinate caches to a bookmark list and run a weekly query of it. When you look at the geomap, select the "pocket queries" tab (it defaults to 'search) And simply pick your query from the list. It will display all your caches added at the correct, corrected coords.
  3. I think about this often when I'm in the forest....ehem....you know.
  4. How would you know if the full app is a rip off if you don't have it? I understand you are frustrated, but if you don't have the app then save your breath on the criticism of it. 12 euros? What is that, 2 Starbucks? One martini? If you feel you can get on safari, then GC.com then the cache in question, then copy/paste coords, read description and then use google maps to navigate you while in the woods or forest, then by all means, save those 12 euros. Yes, copy/paste in google maps is so much easier. Don't want to break the bank or send you into bankruptcy.
  5. Nah. I only need it for NW Trails/Topos. I don't use it for Geocaching per se. It was only $200ish...I still have all my old iPhones too. If I were just relying on the Garmin to geocache? Then I'd send it back.
  6. Only in town or in an open field. c:geo is just as wonky under a canopy as other smartphone apps. I can't tell you how many times we've had problems in thick tree cover. And I can't tell you how many times I've NOT had problems under thick tree cover...
  7. If you decide you want to cache long term as a serious hobby I would get a quality GPS unit....newer ones all have paperless functions and I would get one with a three axis pointer. Caching with my iPhone 5S is O.K. but I much prefer my Garmin 62S. Funny. I consider geocaching a serious hobby and think of myself as a long term kind of cacher. And I prefer my iPhone to my Garmin 62s. The Garmin needs constant calibration (sometimes several times in one outing), the batteries last only about one day of caching, and often times its way, way off. Way off. Also, sometimes it just shuts off completely. And I must turn it on at least 15 mins before I need to use it as it takes FOREVER to figure out where on earth I am located. My iPhone 5s has been way more consistent and trusty than my Garmin. If it weren't for NWTopos, I wouldn't use it. 2500 caches using it so far,... seems to be working out just fine. I think something is wrong with your 62.....if mine behaved that way I'd use my phone too. I have 3 62S units and have never had to field calibrate anything...in fact I have had no trouble of any kind with the unit nor has any of those I know who own them. When I turn them on they lock on in a matter of seconds. I use Sanyo Eneloop 2500 batteries and start the day with a fresh pair and they last longer than I do ( 8-12 hrs ?). Maybe a master re-set or firmware upgrade.....something is not right. If the latest firmware doesn't work try 3.90, I used it until just recently and its flawless.....I'm trying the new firmware because I like being able to log a find from the compass screen.....so far its working well. Brand new, right out of the box. Everything up to date. And also a common complaint. So maybe something is wrong with a lot of Garmin 62s'

  9. Not quite. A handheld gps can be bought for a lot less money than you are trying to imply. It's a one-time purchase that should last quite a while, and can be used for stuff other than geocaching. A Premium Membership is $30/year. I don't need to spend a fortune on the latest "smart" phone, or buy apps to go geocaching. I don't need to constantly pay for data plans or whatever it is that makes these smart phones work. I can take my gps out in the woods without fear of losing a major investment. I also don't need to fret about not having a phone signal. You've been spending a lot of time here, posting the same thing essentially. As for the OP, I've just discovered a helpful page in the Help Center: Help Center → Apps → Geocaching with iPhone 1.15. iPhone app Feature Comparison http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=442 B. I've spent the money on the fancy smartphone with its fancy apps whether I geocache or not. The geo app is $10. That's one day of Starbucks for me! Or one martini at happy hour. My data plan is not a concern (even though I still have unlimited data, BOO-YA!). I can always, always, ALWAYS geocache offline. Easy peasy But noneless...the data plan ***already exists*** I use my phone for more than geocaching. I use it for everything! I don't worry about taking my iPhone out in the woods (or water) either. In fact, I do it all the time. I don't just do it all the time, it's my primary device. Sometimes I take my Garmin out when I want to post my tracks. But I haven't loaded caches on my Garmin in at least 6 months. My last find, and last online log, was all done on my kayak, at GZ, in the water, live. No problemo. Also...I've never "fretted" about losing cell phone connection. Never. So, to summarize. Expensive gps vs $10 app. Sorry to say, but that's the short story here. Also....I can offline cache, with no data plan, and NO premium membership pretty easily. Don't need the PMO to load hundreds of offline caches to my phone. Seems pretty simple to me I haven't met a cache yet that couldn't be found using my iPhone. Eta:spelling spelling spelling
  10. Oh, my bad ... I thought you were truly looking for seamless geocaching with the least amount of steps...
  11. My PQs show up instantly on my iPhone, no computer needed.
  12. What you should be wondering is what made them do it for your cache and discuss it with them so you can make sure no one else makes the same mistake. No matter how convinced you are that the problem was lapse in judgement on their part, you should take responsibility for what happened just in case it was something you did. Certainly there's no need to insult them by saying they give geocaching a bad name. That will never produce better results that discussing the mistake with them as adults. Yeah...I just keep going back to the email and how out of line it was. There were probably a dozen better ways of making the same points while not sounding rude or overly critical or judgmental. ^^ this
  13. I guess only newbies are irresponsible, wasn't everybody a newbie once? If you’re worried about the forest being trashed perhaps you shouldn't place a cache there. The tone of some of these replies rubs me the wrong way. Some individuals and families can’t afford to purchase premium memberships and in my opinion that doesn't make them any less of a person than someone who chooses to purchase a premium membership. I had a premium membership years ago in the early days of geocaching to support the site but didn't think of myself as being part of an elite group. I never made my caches only available to premium members as I wanted everyone to enjoy my caches and if they got trashed or went missing, I just chalked it up to being part of the game. I have nothing against premium member hides, but I do have an issues with some of the reasons and justifications. Don't hide caches in the forest??? That's,,,,,,that's seriously like the most ridiculous suggestion I've ever heard about geocaching. Ever. Nope. I'll keep all of my hides PMO. Decrease the newbies. Don't like it? Wah. Then search out the other 2+ million caches.
  14. And I'm sure it was perfectly obvious that that roadway was private. Yeahhhh. That's why this whole situation happened. But you could re-read and see he said "never ok" hey lookie, I can add a lame emoticon too
  15. 1600 caches within 10 miles 4900 within 20 miles 22754 within 100 miles 40 5/5's within 20 mi.
  16. I want to limit the traffic to my cache. This is a *good* thing. I don't want newbies trashing the forest looking around for my cache.
  17. You just do them on your own. If you wait until the block party (they are all in Fremont) then you will do them with 1 zillion other people. That's how we did them, and it was fun. But the caches are great so I with I had done them prior
  18. We can't help you if we don't know the app you're using....
  19. While you're navigating on the map screen, hit the three dots in the upper right hand corner (...) and pick "add waypoint"
  20. Uhhh..if that were a true story my find count would be decreased by 1000. Seriously. Feedback? I'd say your response was very rude. First, being rude via email, then post about it in the forums? Eegads. Perhaps we can teach/mentor our noobs instead of chastisizing ? True that. Next time this guy will leave a "tftc" because of your email.
  21. Here's our FB page, cachers of puget sound https://www.facebook.com/groups/317549528315995/ Welcome! I'd recommend you do the HQ geotour, any caches on cougar mountain in issaquah, and anything by dayspring or goblindust.
  22. Welcome! I only use the iPhone for caching. I prefer the map screen over the compass screen but that's just preference. I also have a Garmin on, and in my pocket, when I cache in the forest specifically to navigate on trails (not for the cache). And then I only have it with me **sometimes** So of my 2570 finds, maybe about 100 were found with the assistance of my Garmin. I've cached plenty in the wet and rainy forest with just my iPhone alone. And trust me, the Garmin is nowhere as easy as the iPhone. Have fun!!
  23. That is really one of the big reasons I like the smart phone. When in data coverage, I can pull up multiple map sources very easyly. Even when not in data coverage, I can very easyly cache verious map sources. Way easyer then getting multiple maps onto and switching between most dedicated gps. But now with Garmin's android wifi enabled "dedicated" gps you don't have to choose, you can have it all. And play angry birds too... Unless you're traveling - and I'm traveling a lot. I noticed that the save map function in the official app doesn't always work too well, plus the quality of the maps I can download is not so good in many areas. And of course, using data abroad is simply a no no, and a mobile phone connection is not available in many places I cache anyway. Mrs. terratin That's when I save caches to an offline list. Easy peasy. My saved maps work just fine...
  24. Definitely get a charger. Use the phone less. Minimize back light. Kill apps running in the background Soon you'll figure out all the tips and tricks!...congrats!
