  1. Hello, I don't know if this is the right place for this question, but I guess someone will tell me. I am from U.S.A., and am planning a trip to England, maybe in the fall of 2005. Have been there before, but was not into geocaching at the time. I placed a query in General Geocaching Discussons--Getting started and received a lot of very helpful information. I was referred to www.geocacheuk.com and have visited that site. I wanted to register, but the first box asks for my geocache.com name, and my name and the name of a lot of other cachers I know are not listed there, and it won't let me enter my name. So, my question is, do I just not know how to do this? Is it only for premium members? (I think not because my son is a premium member and not listed) or is this site only for those who live in the UK? I really want to be as prepared as I can for my next trip. Thank you so very much in advance for any assistance. signed: Yo Yo Maxx
  2. Thanks to everyone who responded to my plea. The response was more than I ever expected. I also was surprised by all the "old salts" who still look at the Getting Started forum. Without you, the rest of us would be lost. Thanks again. CYBret, thanks for the push about becoming a Premium Member. I bought a Premium Membership for my son, but alas, he lives 800 miles from me. Just didn't think about it for myself. I believe I will follow up. And you will be seeing me on the UK Forum. And dear, dear Colonial Marine, thank you so much for the postofficeuk link. Brilliant! That is exactly what I needed. John and Hazel, I will be following up on your suggested link. And Davester, I didn't know geocacheuk.com existed. Thank you so much. I am now more excited about the upcoming trip than ever. And I have lots to do. Again, my next trip to England will be very much enhanced because of your help. So if any of you see an old woman with an even older woman in tow following a GPSr about in Hyde park next fall, it just could be me and my Mom. Thanks again, Yo Yo Maxx
  3. I am planning another trip to England sometime within this next year. I want to do some caching in London as I am sure there are some urban caches in a city that large. I have been there before, so can get around on the tube etc. My problem is: I want to find caches that I can reasonably be able to find. I will be there for two or three weeks, so I do intend to make time for caching. Now my immediate problem is that I will have to locate some caches here at home and print out the description pages to take with me. When I log onto the main page for geocaching, and do the search for United Kingdom, I get hundreds of caches for the whole country. How do I go about weeding out those that will be found in London? And I hope to get up to York and possibly the Ipswich area and perhaps even Dover. So, since I don't know the postal codes, how can I find these caches? I will be planning out my trip as the months go along, and I would like to design this trip around doing some geocaching. Can you help me? Thanks in advance for any assistance, Yo Yo MaXX
  4. One of my earliest finds was in a little country cemetery. The best part was that the container was in a bush right next to my grandmother's grave. She died the year before I was born, but my Mother has told me so many things about her over my lifetime and I am certain she would find this game a real hoot. She was all for the things that made her kids happy. In addition, my first cache is in a cemetery. It is out of the way, and has been overlooked by many, many people who live in this area because businesses have been built up around it. They all say they are grateful for the cache because they would never know about this little spot of peace in the middle of so much commercialism. I picked the spot because it is next to the grave of one of my great-great grandfathers whose wife has gone missing for many years, I am still looking for her and thus the cache is named for her. I have had nothing but positive responses about this cache, and it is hit a lot. Seems to have become a convenient spot for people passing through on the interstate and thus it has become a popular dropping off spot for TB's. I have been so pleased with the response. Hope this helps from one who has a personal interest in some cemeteries. Yo Yo MaXX
  5. I ran into another cacher, very early on while caching. I was hoping to be FTF and was there about 8:00 a.m. and lo and behold there was someone there before me. I was a bit unsure but we quickly identified ourselves by our caching names, the other guy was after the Jeep TB, and he got it even though it was my gps that actually found it. Oh well. I made a friend and subsequently bought some ammo cans from him. Another time I was walking through a walk tunnel and saw three other peoples. Since it was a walking park I thought they were muggles, so I held my gps down at my side hoping they would not notice what I was doing. And the lady, said, "I'll bet I know what you are doing, I see your gps." Busted. It was a hoot and we found the cache together and it turned out that we have friends in common, and I think that come spring we are going to work on some multi caches together. So, you just never know what will happen. a happy cacher, Yo Yo Maxx
  6. If it isn't a word yet, then according to the Oxford English Dictionary, I understand it just has to be found in print in 5 different places being used in context. If you can prove it is used in print 5 times then you can get it in the finest dictionary in the world. Hey, you might be on to somethingth. Yo Yo Maxx
  7. We have had a brief break in the weather, with hints (in my mind) of spring, and that has gotten me in the caching mood. I now have one cache ready to go with a place in mind. And have an ammo can and a camo can just waiting. I guess it didn't occur to me to get them ready and then I will find a place to put it. Sort of like, "build it, they will come?" I think I have been of the mindset that the place needed to present itself and then I would decide what to put there. Maybe it is sort of like a yard sale, if I don't buy now, it won't be there when I come back. I could lose a good spot just because I'm not ready to go. So, thanks for the idea. I will get the others ready. We are due for more bad weather yet so that should keep me busy and help me feel like I am still in the game. I have ordered more TB tags because that is one of the easiest way I have found to enjoy the game. Wait for the email to notify me that someone else is out there having fun. Thanks for the idea. 8. Just a little testimony. I have been taking along a sack of sacks in my geobackpack. And I try to practice cito when we are out on a trail. Saturday, I was alone, and made a long hike (long, for a 62 year old woman ) Anyway, after the long hike I still did not find the cache, and will have to go back another day. However, on the way back to the car, I carried out a whole bag of trash. Made me feel very virtuous and was very satisfied to know that the trip had not been wasted. A very, very good idea, and besides I am sure it helped my waistline a little too. Glad to know that others are doing the same. Yo Yo Maxx
