  1. I received approval yesterday. (err, 1 approval, and 1 denial)
  2. I, too, have a problem with one of the Categories. 2 waymark submissions have been made, one in June, and one in early July. I've e-mailed all officers and have had no response. Yet, all three of the officers log into Waymark almost daily. At least one has posted at least one comment on the waymark forum, and some have had time to log cache finds. It hasn't been 2 months yet, but I'm beginning to wonder if I should bother taking the time to log another waymark, that I found today, for Landlocked Lighthouses. The last Landlocked Lighthouse was approved in early June.
  3. I have just read the logs and believe that I would enjoy being a member of this group. I have just put my name into the group. Most of the photos that I've taken have been for technical identification, with many closeups of stems, leaves, joints, anthers, etc. I'm still trying to figure out how to get 2000 slides into a digital format without mortgaging my house.
  4. I just tried submitting a Thrift Store waymark. All of the address items were bright yellow except the Zipcode. The submission went through fine, including a photo up-load afterward. NO-STOP- Don't use that bat on your computer!! I'm just trying to help.
  5. OK. I opened a new "Record Waymark" page and filled out all information. Then I submited and everything went through. I up loaded a picture and it also went through. No more problems here - yet.
  6. Perhaps "Statues of Creatures with Fins". That would include Porposes, Whales, Fish, lobsters (is that a fin?), and maybe even a mermaid. But then what do I do with the statue of the fox, river otter, beaver, bald eagle, heron, and turtle? I won't even mention all those creatures carved out of a log with a chainsaw. OOPS, now I've imagined into existance another artform waymark to be.
  7. Check to see if it fits in Waymarks for the National Register of Historic Places. Perhaps the fort is on the list, and if the survey marker is on the fort grounds, use that coord to list the fort as a Waymark for the NRHP. Then tell about the survey marker. Other survey marker hunters will come to the fort to see the marker.
  8. OK, Here's a new error message to work on next. I processed the form to Add New Oven & Kiln Waymark. I did not hit the "Save without submitting" at any time prior. I clicked on "Submit Waymark" 10 seconds later it came back at me with: "There is already an open DataReader associated with this Connection which must be closed first." It is in bright red. It was just above the top line "Add New Oven & Kiln Waymark" At the bottom of the page is now the button "Update Waymark" I opened a new web page, went to My Page, and then to My Waymarks. There is no listing for this submitted waymark. The address for the submitted page is: http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/record....e6-6e9f69b0a659
  9. I have found that creating a new waymark location takes far more time than logging a visit to one that has already been created. Some catagories require lots of information, others don't. It seems to me that it's much like the difference between creating or finding a cache. A 2-star MULTI takes more time and effort to create then it does to normally find. 1-star Micros in a parking lot are easy either way. MotherGoose & I were frustrated with Locationless Caches because so many that were hard to find had been claimed by the time we got involved and we couldn't log a visit either. We can now spend a day exploring the countryside and photograph many waymarks. We could then spend 3 days creating new waymarks. But we know the frustration of being unable to find a new one, so we save photos and comments to log a visit later when others in the area get involved and start creating new waymarks. One thing to remember - Know what is required when you head out to find that special waymark. If you don't, you'll miss one item needed and have to make a return trip. We have print-outs of all the catigories with us. Just remember too- sometimes the requirements for a new catagory get changed. You never know when you'll find a historic marker at the first country church in the county that's more than 100 years old, on a plank road, next to a railroad bridge while you are driving to that "Z" welcome sign. Good Luck,
  10. I may not like alcoholic beverages, but I have no objections to the drinking and enjoyment that others get from these products. I would be going to this category for the same reason that I went to a "Dog Park" even though I don't own a dog. I am assisting others in the search for their favorite subject in my part of the world. Isn't that what Waymarking is all about? I could say that MotherGoose enjoys a fine wine now and then, but medication that she is taking prevents her from doing what she used to enjoy. I could also say that I'm doing it for the "Icon", but we traveled the back roads, and explored new places before geocaching and Waymarking. This just adds another bit of fun to our road trips. If only I could find a "Nude Beach" for those who enjoy that type of thing.
  11. When we were doing the Locationless Caches, we used a 35 mm film camera. I would then take the film in, have it developed and have a CD made with the pictures on it. The photos would be back in a week. The next step was to reduce the size of the image to meet web site requirements (< 120k). I then got on the internet with my landline running at a max speed of 24.5K. It was at that point that I would discover that the LC had been archived 2 months ago or maybe two days ago. In December of 2006 we received a digital camera for Christmas. A mad dash around the countryside and lots of time on the internet got us some more LC claims at the last minute. I love that $50.00 camera. I don’t even check to see if these waymarks require photos. I put them in - even at 24.5K rate. With the research and write-up, I’m lucky to get more than 6 or 8 waymarks posted in a 16-hour day. Photo up-loads and page downloads with pictures takes the most time. Personally, I want to see a photo. Without photos, it’s just a virtual cache. “The most beautiful park you’ve ever seen” waymark means nothing without a photo. (The above waymark doesn’t exist - yet). As for that benchmark photo – It took me three 20-mile road trips and three half-mile hikes back to the benchmark to get what I considered an acceptable photo with my camera. As for the wine tasting and giving my comments – not a bad idea but it does need an alternative way to log it. I do not like wine or other such adult beverages. What would I comment about the flavor? Should I give my honest opinion and say it tastes like #$*@? Or perhaps say that it is the “Ambrosia of the Gods” Either comment may be true or false for someone else.
  12. I wonder if a willingness to consume alcohol could be considered “special equipment”. As a practicing member of a religion that proscribes alcohol, I wouldn't be able to log such a waymark without violating my religious principles, unless an alternative way was provided for me to do so. But then it does seem to me that there's a line to be drawn, where it is simply understood that not everyone can log every waymark. If I'm unwilling to consume alcohol, then there's really no reason for me to be logging a waymark that is based on doing so.

  14. This is my first forem post, please excuse my excuses. I wondered why one of my submissions was approved 3 times over a period of eight days. Now I know. No, I'm not a member of any waymark group. I'd like to be, but with an "end of the phone line" 24k download rate, it would take me all day to review the picture of just two or three submissions. By the time it downloaded to me, one of my fellow officers would have hit the approve button, and I wouldn't know it until after I hit the same button.
