  1. Thing is, I'm already in Texas and it is still in NJ. Like I mentioned, I totally forgot about it. I will make a post in the north-east section of the forum. Thanks a million! -R
  2. I had a cache when we lived in NJ. Moved to Texas about 2-3 years ago and totally forgot about the cache. How do I give up ownership?...or do I just disable and forget about it?
  3. Hello everyone. I'm Randy. Geochached a few years ago when my son was little, just started getting into it again, this time with my wife (RhondaPRN).
  4. Badlands, Thanks for the links!! I downloaded the software, took me a little while to figure out how to use it. But there is an issue..... I took the coordinates and coverted them to WGS84, hddd mm.mmm format and then looked them up using my MapSource software.....the problem is the coordinates were .385 miles off. Is it me, did I do something wrong? Does anyone know of other software I could try out? TIA, RajunCajun
  5. I was wondering if someone could point me to an easy to use coordinate converter? I have a lake map with a coordinate of 27237.4---43050.5 It says Loran C. Anyone know what Loran C is? Or how to go about converting it to WGS84, hddd mm.mmm format? TIA, RajunCajun
  6. no idea. i was hoping that someone could tell me.
  7. Thanks for making that post Rajan. Its JUST what I wanted to know. choppy NP Choppy1
  8. I take my 8 y/o with me most of the time. We'll get really close and I usually spot them about 95% of the time but I always pretend like I don't see it. I'll have him go check in that hollow tree or under that log, ect...ect... that way he is the one finding them. I have found that by doing this he stays excited about the sport and he just loves hunting for them. As a matter of fact, he is the usually the one asking if we can go. BTW, I also set him up with an account, so now he is double psyched!! Good luck and have fun!!
  9. How do you post a picture in a thread? TIA, RajunCajun
  10. Me too!! I got mine from eBay for $160, shipping included. Previous owner said he used it one time and then came kids. Wasn't a scratch on it! I couldn't be happier!!
  11. But on the way home from work last night, I noticed that while going through my neighborhood, it is on the road......I'd say the last 6 to 8 turns were dead on the roads with turns on the correct streets and I only had 2 waypoints in the route....home and work. I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be hard-headed, just trying to understand this thing.... Thanks for the patience and the especially the info.
  12. Peter, Thanks for the advice! I done exactly what you said and even though it did refresh about 3-5 times (over a 30 mile drive), it wasn't nearly as frequent as before and it is much smoother too. I wonder why the route is right on the highway, road, street, ect...on the map in Metroguide, but when I transfer the map & waypoints to the GPSr, the route is connected at the waypoints and doesn't follow the roads. Can you or someone shed some light on this? Thanks again Peter
  13. I have a couple of questions on a couple issues that I seem to be having. I use a Vista with software version 3.6 and I just recently bought Metro Guide NA v6. 1. I used it today to find an address about 20 miles from my house. I marked my house as a waypoint and the address I was looking for as a waypoint. I let it auto-create a route (which seemed to be dead on), and then I copied that map to my GPSr. On the way there I noticed that about every minute the screen would completely disappear and re-draw itself after about 2-3 seconds. Also, the "Route" itself didn't seem to be on the roads the way they were on the program, as a matter of a fact, it was way off in some places. 2. Also, as I'm driving along it doesn't seem very smooth. Kind of seems like it jerks....kinda like it refreshes about every 5 seconds Is this a known flaw or is there a setting I've missed? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  14. Ahhhhhh...that explains it. Thanks
  15. Of course, now that I make the post, it moves..... Go figure. Sorry...
  16. Not that I'm counting or anything, but the last 5 or 6 posts I've made have been my 30th post. Whats up with that?
  17. Thanks, I knew I was overlooking something simple....
  18. I apologize if this question has been asked before.... When I run GSAK, it is showing the closest cache to my house at a distance of over 5700 miles, yet the GPSr shows it as just over a mile. How do you set your home coordinates in GSAK to reflect to actual milage? Thanks in advance
  19. I hope the Caching Veterens don't mind a noob throwing his .02 cents in.... I've learned that it is much better to have too much and not need it than it is to need it and not have it.... As laim as it may sound, that was one of the main reasons I chose the Vista, and have no regrets about it!
  20. Hi, Sorry if this question has been asked already, but I can't seem to find this info anywhere.... Are you able to look up address' with Map Source's MetroGuide North America to create a route from one point to another? I have Roads & Recreation, v3.3 I think, and the only way I can seem to do it is to zoom into the map and just follow the roads creating points along the way until I get close to my destination. There's got be an easier way....
  21. Hi, I still consider myself "green" when it comes to stuff like this, so I'd like to try to get some opinions on some things.... I'd like to get a used GPSr for my 8 y/o son. He loves to go caching with me and I think it'd be cool for him to find one in his stocking Christmas morning. Unforunately, I probably can't afford something new, so with that being said, I'd like to find something not too expensive. However, I would like to stay within the Garmin family since that is what I already have and possibly share data cables, software and such. What I'm looking for is something with a built-in basemap (USA), and the ability to be able to download Mapsource products, (Metroguide, Roads & Rec., Topo...ect), and if I somehow can get really lucky...WAAS compatible. Any opinions on the eMap? (I don't think this unit is WAAS). About what would a used eMap be worth?...just a ballpark figure will do. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what other models I should look into as well? And perhaps their ballpark figure? If maybe some of you have something that fits this bill that you'd like to part with or know someone who does, please feel free to email me. Anyway, thanks for taking time to read this...and ALL advice is appreciated!
