  1. Sent an email requesting one of the coins in the list.
  2. I was backtracking all the areas between the last known possition to where the coin came up missing.... no luck I do however have some really good pictures of the area that I did not get the last time we were there. usually I handle all the items personally, but this time an assistant was helping.... when I got to an area to take photos, we went into the baggie that was holding the coin, and nothing was in the bag other than the goal documentation. I also tore through the car to find nothing.... (most of the time I'm on the motorcycle) Tonight is the nigh I have to compose that sad letter..... it's a shame, and really not like me to lose anything, especially something so important. BTW this was a really nice coin, and I will demand the owner let me buy him another one to help heal my embarrassment and shame. Thanks to everyone for the help on how to solve the lost coin problem.
  3. I am going back in Sunday morning (7/31) , the plan is to get there around 8am, this way there will be less skeeters, and I should not bother any neighbors while there. We are going to bring a metal detector and the cameras, if you are there, say hello, I am going to be wearing my geocaching T-shirt. Today (Sat) I'm taking the motorcycle for a ride and check out some other caches, who knows where the path will lead today.
  4. It's actually quite fascinating there, the roller coaster is gone, but to see the Ferris wheel in person is amazing! here are a couple of links to give you an idea of what the place was like. Wiki link This is a really good video about the park on youtube There is a cache where the park entrance sign used to be well outside the fenced area.
  5. The place is down by Medina and Lodi map I did go back and tried to follow my tracks, but the foliage is very over grown... then again, another pair of eyes would not hurt! There is a cache out front of the park, but I wanted to go into the park to get some pictures of the coin next to the huge Ferris wheel with the tree growing through it. Thanks for the help and advice everyone, it may be worth another shot walking the route again, I know for sure it was lost BEFORE getting to the Ferris wheel, and I returned to the cache prior where I made another TB drop.
  6. I need some help from everyone. I was caching with a nice geocoin in my pocket and I must have dropped it while climbing around, or it just fell out of my bag. The coin was lost in an abandoned amusement park that has no trespassing signs all over it, tons of over grown plants, not sure if the coin will ever be recovered and put back into circulation. The reason for going in there was because there is a huge Ferris wheel with a tree growing through it, and a few other interesting things to see. My thoughts were to try and order another coin just like it and have the same numbers stamped on it. is this possible? If not, what should I do about this? Can I just get another one to replace this one where it left off, like insert the new coin into the current logs by somehow updating the tracking number? here is the coin I'm reffering to: Lost coin I still have not informed the owner of the coin, I wanted to get some opinions here first. Thank you everyone! GWTony
  7. Also noticed one more change with master reset: all of my geocaches that were marked as found, are no longer marked as found. this is not a problem for me, as I will just update the geocache.gpx file with GSAK
  8. Sorry, For some reason the page would not load after hitting the submit button...
  9. First I tried the normal update operation and did the hardware eject…. Did not work, locked once again. After getting it going once again with 3.40 restoration, I did what blackrocks did to upgrade and just to be safe I ejected the hardware like smtext suggested, now all is working just fine, and I did notice some more options, one of them being a filter option in the “geocache” section, I can’t comment on any more changes as yet, because I have done a before and after exam of all the icons and settings. Now about the master reset. This is only what I am aware of. All my data on the card was not effected (forgot to take it out) Not effected: archived tracks, waypoints that I created, photos are all still there. Was effected / changed: all active tracks gone, all settings went back to default, I lost my profile settings. This was really no big deal, but you may have made many changed to your profile without knowing like myself. Conclusion: All is good with the Oregon, and I like the filter update Thanks to all that have contributed to this thread

  11. My Oregon did the same thing, I was able to recover back to Ver 3.40. Question: After doing this master reset, what user data gets deleted? Do pictures, maps, waypoints, or geocaches get deleted? I guess this does not matter as I will just back up the data before doing it..... Anyhow I would still like to know. Thanks!
  12. Discovering some of them is half the fun, some owners are very creative. I have revisited a few caches just to see whats going on in there.
  13. Maybe you can take me since I'm close by your area!
  14. After you put it out there, I am going to find it! LOL I see your name in many log books bo bo.
  15. good article here: http://www.cacheopedia.com/wiki/GeoBeagle
  16. I had this one in my possession for a few days and took some pictures of it. Its a small dog that has traveled 3/4 around the Earth. http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.as...53-91c3019af67e
  17. sometimes I answer my own questions too
  18. I had the same question and just wanted to post a 'thank you'
  19. I have the 550 (only difference is this one has a camera) and I wanted to know the same thing, and more. Just wanted to thank the ones that replied to the question, and for pointing us Oregon owners to the wiki site
  20. I bought a Garmin Nuvi 265WT for the car, refurbished from Tigerdirect. When it arrived it was like brand new, I could not tell it was ever used, even when it was first turned on. After getting it going I went to Garmin's website to register it, Garmin gave me the FREE map update as advertised, and all went well, no troubles. It seems like someone opened the box, said "never mind", closed it, and it was sent back to Garmin.... who knows, but it is working fine! Maybe I got lucky, but I would do it again on a small item like this.
  21. Geo tagging photos how to: here is how I tag my photos, and it's all free software... First you are going to want to get this software: http://www.geosetter.de/en/download/ While on the above website you can see the screenshots and access the full instructions, but basically here is what you will want to do. FIRST of all, do the best you can do with time synchronization with you camera's time to the GPS time. after installing geosetter, go into the 'file' 'settings' and set your preferences for time zone and measurement (SAE or Metric) Also I like that is will show the city, state and country where the photo was taken. Now here is how I do it.... open Basecamp (I use mapsource, but it is close) plug in the GPS, let it show all of the tracks, then save (I think you have to use 'export' in basecamp) the file as a GPX (Basecamp will default to 'GDP' and this will not work) Save the GPX file into a folder that you will be able to find later! after doing that, open Geosetter. in the top left window, select the folder where the pictures are thumbnails of them will be displayed. in the bottom right window, select the folder where you saved the 'gpx' file now find a picture where you know exactly where you were at the time 'intersection or something', geo tag this photo first. if geosetter places it in the wrong place, you will have to use the UNDO and start over and either subtract or add seconds until it is exactly where you were. This is how you fine tune your time synchronization with the camera and GPS track once it's exactly where you where, you were at the time of the shot, select all the other photos, and just hit the "syncrozine goe data with GPS data button" and all the photos will be tagged. Now you can go to FLKR (which the software is fully compatable with) or picassa, or panoramio, to upload pictures, and they will automatically be placed on the map. Hope the above chicken scratch helps!
  22. Hello all! I was looking at another post and seen a mention of GSAK and GPSBeagle, also there were one or two others. GSAK seemed like it would be quite useful for keeping track of the many caches that I plan to locate. My GPS of choice is the Oregon 550, and it works very well, and is extremely easy to use. I use Basecamp and Mapsource on the computer, and have been using mapsource for my road trips for years, so mapping is no trouble. The way I do it now is, load a bunch of the caches into the Oregon, then load just a few as needed for routing into my vehicle's GPS to get to the general locations, and off I go. The reason I am asking about some of these other programs is more for organizing my cache locations that I want to find, have found, and DNFs. I see that some of you PROs out there are in the 1000s of finds. Is there something that you use? Recommend? How do you organize those 1000s of finds? I am only at 58 and want to keep organized from the start. Thanks in advance! Tony
  23. I looked into the query options and this does what I need to find some bugs. I was in a cache last week to retrieve a motorcycle that wanted to travel to some dealers, the plan was to take it to Souteast, and Lake Erie HD dealers for some pictures, but the TB was not there... The trip was not a waste, because this was a first find for me I ride a Honda, but don't mind helping out any other motorcycle. Thanks for the help on this!
  24. is there a way I can search for caches that contain trackables? I am rather new to this sport and want to incorporate my travels with moving some trackable items.
  25. post the reference number, I will keep a lookout for it, you will get both from me, a ride, and a picture.
