  1. Jack, Congrats! Don't get too exited and don't depend too much on Amazon's blazin' shipping dept. I ordered my machine on Sept. 10. It sat on the shelf for 5 days before they shipped it and I'm still waiting. Coffeeville, Ks. is only 3 hrs. up the road!
  2. I am an involuntary lurker. Huh? "How's that?" you say? I would seem that there are 2 Amazons, one being in Coffeevile, Ks., some 3 hours out, and the other being actually located somewhere along THE Amazon! I'm a new guy and still waiting for my GPSr which was ordered 11 days ago! It would appear that my order is being shipped from the latter location. I have several posts and many hours reading the different forums. There is only so much one can do while waiting. So here I sit "banished" to lurkdom.
  3. Go get 'em Mom! My GPSr won't be here 'til Monday, so I went out and did a little benchmarking yesterday.
  4. Every thing on my end works.
  5. Haffy, I agree. I've sittin' here grounded waiting for the GPSr. Not much to do but read and learn as much as I can. Met a lot of nice folks here too.
  6. I'm disappointed with these trackables. I thought that this would be one of the most interesting parts of the game, to see how these items "migrate." Not so, I guess. Have been reading other threads on the subject and it sounds like more and more folks don't even mess with them anymore. Too bad.
  7. Andrea, Wifey likes metal detecting, maybe geocaching, but did I mention that she's a pretty fair hand with a .40 cal. pistol? No, this ole feller needs a hobby with a longer life expectancy than liftin' skirts! Oh yeah, went into my profile and I think I got that PMer thingy workin.'
  8. Good post "young Skywalker" I enjoyed that. I lived in New England more than 50 yrs and know how unpredictable the weather back east can be, so a daypack with a change of clothes and rain gear is in order. Where we live now, we have, almost summer, summer, still summer, and Christmas. Just right for us 'ole geezers!
  9. Simpler has the right idea. Some folks will have a little more gear to haul around that's all.
  10. Col. Flagg: That's an interesting comment coming from an "officer and a gentleman." Oh well, let know man say that a Marine does not follow orders! Once again thank you all for the comments and info. Now if only the dang machine would get here! I hate waiting!
  11. This thread was a big disappointment. Being a new guy, I would have thought that trackables would have been a really interesting part of the game and not a pain in the butt!
  12. Still waiting on our GPSr and our first cache. We do like to go out on hikes however. We NEVER leave without one or both of us carrying a compass. I prefer the Brunton 8099 PRO @ 3.6 oz. Wifey likes her Cammenga Tritium Lensatic Compass. Why? "'Cause it looks so darn cool, that's why!" She says." Fixin' to call in artillery or an air strike on our position dear?" says I. And so the banter goes. I would have enclosed pics but don't have that figured out yet.
  13. Sept. 10 my wife ordered for me, a Garmin 60CSx. We paid $285.57 from Amazon, who claims it was 47% off list. The sale was over the next day so we jumped on it not fully knowing what the heck we just bought! Amazon sat on it for 5 days before shipping it and now the delivery date is the 21st. So I will continue to be a new guy pain in the butt until it gets here!
  14. Pay me no mind. These are just the ramblings of an old veteran who was born in the ''40's and grew up in the '50's and '60's. People had respect for each other, their country, and our flag. I keep forgetting the huge generation gap and the downward spiral of morals today. Cemeteries? Sure, why not? Have fun! Fireworks, picnics, four wheeling, who cares? They are dead right?
  15. This is a game. Games are to be played in playgrounds. Play=Playground. Get it? Are you telling me that the world is too small for this game and we need to PLAY in our cemeteries? It is disrespecful and morally wrong!
  16. Thanks for the words of encouragement Andrea. I am not a hi-tech-type guy. Nice Camaro! ngrrfan: My wife and I plan on doing this together. We live in "the wilds" with lots of buzz-tails and coppers, so traveling alone is not a great idea.
  17. Thanks guys, good advice. Star Brand, I'll try to keep my first caches about the size of a Peterbilt. Gitchee, I'd love to get out there and burn up some batteries but tha dang machine is still on the way.
  18. I am waiting on my 60CSx to get here, that's how new I am. Not very encouraging knowing it has bugs and it's still in the box! The good news is I have 31 compasses as back-ups!
  19. I live in a VERY rural area. Our hometown is only here twice a week. It does have 1 cache however.
  20. Found your site by accident, the more I read, the more I liked. Now, here I sit waiting for my Garmin 60CSx to arrive. Don't know a thing about it except for the manual I downloaded (all by myself!). I didn't order any software with it as I didn't know what to get and still don't. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
