Your store could reseal and make FACTORY PERFECT packages? I'm talking about the TOUGH plastic clam shell see-through packages and NOT just clear heat shrink film over a box. And, your "equipment" could repair the color cardboard proprietary product card that was cut/mangled when getting the original open? Maybe even the papers/quick start guides, etc that may have been nicked by scissors? Nope...

Still, after a day of hiking and stopping to eat, look at things, etc, it's nice to know how far you actually walked.

Thanks, Larry. I can turn the track log off so it doesn't waste track points. Just wish I could do the same and not have those "wandering" points count against the trip odometer. I thought I'd try just turning it off when we sat down to have a snack for 20 minutes or so, but when I turned it back on and it was acquiring lock again...it bounced around MUCH more adding even more error. Same thing if I just turned the GPS part off and back on on the satellite status page without turning the entire unit off.

Yeah, likely the results of someone doing the same thing you did AND the store passing on the buck as well. Really? An on-line company with a FIVE MONTH return policy? Which one? That's how long the OP had his GPS when he had problems and went back to Best Buy. In situations like this, I've just purchased an EXACT same version of whatever I had and returned the old one in the new packaging. Not my problem. Let the store/manufacturing company sort it out later. I don't have the time. WOW, and you "brag" about this?? Have you re-cacibrated the compass? Needs to be done when batteries are changed or you change locations over 250-miles. FOr me I re-calibrate the compass each day I go out, never had an accuracy problem! Love the 60CSX> Um, what does recalibrating the compass (or even HAVING an electronic compass) have to do with the displayed accuracy of the GPS? The +/- "feet" is a POSITION error/accuracy thing and NOT a heading/directional thing, such as the compass would provide. The compass has nothing to do with the positional accuracy of a GPS unit.

What in the heck does recalibrating the compass have to do with GPS accuracy? I've had plenty of good units that didn't even have an electronic compass.

I'm right handed and pretty much use my left hand for hand held electronic devices. GPS, dialing cell phone, etc. Always have. I like having my right/dominant hand/arm free for other things. Just seems more natural to use the GPS with my left hand, find what I want then look up and point to others with my right arm.

I know this has probably been covered many times before here, but I didn't see an answer suitable to my question. So... I have a new 60CSx and have been out with it a few times. I know there is going to be some "bouncing around" when stopped due to the high sensitivity receiver and inherent inaccuracies. But, is there a way to automatically have the trip odometer NOT record the extra "bouncing around" distance when stopped? Say, if you are below a certain speed, then just "pin" your position until you start moving and exceed the stopped speed threshold? The wandering is fine and unavoidable, but I want to know if there is a way to not have stopped time wandering distance recorded in the overall trip distance. Yes, I could turn it off or turn the gps part off when stopped, but when it comes back on, even greater erroneous distances are added as it really "bounces around" before the lock settles down and I get a decent accuracy reading. Thanks in advance.
