  1. That's some pretty neat swag. Love the critters in jars. What are the cogs from?
  2. Thank thee kindly. The English Rugby Union team traditionally wear white shirts and shorts with black socks. What is the significance of the black socks?
  3. I thought it was Tennesse. Was it before a border change? North Carolina would be my guess.
  4. Sometimes it is the obvious. Well done. ? Furnace Canyon in Death Valley is the place.
  5. I actually forgot all about Douglas-Home. In my head I went from Harold MacMillan straight to Harold Wilson. Ok, another topical one. Today is set to be the hottest day on record in the UK with temperatures due to hit 39°C (102°F). But where is the hottest place on Earth, according to the World Meteorological Organisation, with an average air temperature of 46.1°C (115°F), and a highest record of 56.7°C (134°F)?
  6. I'm thinking Anthony Eden. He took office after Churchill retired. MacMillan followed him as PM after two years as Eden resigned through ill health.
  7. Most I have come across are in the centre of toad junctions, or on rivers/lakes. They all tend to be on obvious places that a cache won't be. I've not come across that issue. I do add the final coordinates as a way point though. Is that not the right way to so it? I predominantly use the Android app.
  8. That's a good point, and one worth noting. In a small market town near me a cacher was seen returning a cache under a flower pot by a nearby shopkeeper. The end result was a cordoned off town centre whilst a bomb disposal unit prepared to carry out a controlled explosion. The story is here. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-14039229 I think I could have phrased what I wanted to say a little better. I meant to make the point of not taking a noticable interest in others. By watching people and looking over your shoulder constantly you can attract more attention to yourself.
  9. I found 10 caches on the day the event started. Unfortunately, I forgot about the event and just did part of a local trail whilst out with the doggo. Needless to say there wasn't a Detective cache amongst them. When I realised later that evening I thought about not logging the finds until later, so I can utilise the MATM clues I found. I decided against it though. I logged as normal and started the event the next day. I'm now awaiting my next day off to do a trail of 25 caches to go towards my last 35 of the event.
  10. Thanks @Sam539. I'm definitely going to try and make this one. I'm only 15mins from the centre of Leeds on the 36 bus route, so should be able to have a drink as well. I'm currently working my way through the plenty of caches between Leeds, Harrogate and York area.
  11. I usually have a backpack with me when I cache, which can come in handy when using stealth around a cache. I usually take off the pack and have a root around inside to hide what I am actually doing, or to give me an excuse to hang around for a few minutes. I've placed the open pack on the ground and squatted next to it to sneakily look under benches, and placed it on walls and electrical boxes etc to look behind objects without looking like I am searching. To anyone else I am just getting something out of my pack. Retying your shoe laces gives you an opportunity to look at ground level or under benches, whilst removing your shoe to shake out imaginary stones gives you a minute or two to inspect an area from eyeline to ground without raising to much suspicion. Holding your phone to your ear let's you walk around a GZ without too much suspicion. Anyone observing will assume you are just pacing whilst having a conversation. But I think the key to being stealthy is to act like you would anywhere else, at any other time, and ignore other people. If you keep looking around at other people or dart behind a bush and briskly walk away again, you just look out of place.
  12. It seems they have changed tact on this issue anyway. Sounds a reasonable solution.
  13. It would seem a little unfair on those looking forward to attending, but maybe this attitude proves that the committee are not the right people to be running an event of this magnitude.
  14. Is no-one going to Piratemania? I've heard they like the large TBs there.
  15. As they belong to someone else, I don't think you should dispose of them. I would be upset if someone threw mine away. I imagine you have already tried to contact the respectful owners and voiced your concerns? I think I would try and take them to another event and offload them on to someone else. That way they are still in the game, but out of your hair. Alternatively why not make, or try and arrange, a large cache to drop them all in? Kinda like a TB graveyard. Again, they are still in the game then.
  16. A few people have mentioned putting a padlock on. I would have thought that that would encourage the cache to be stolen and/or damaged. A curious passerby is more likely to leave it be if they open it and see nothing of any value, rather than think it may contain something worth stealing or reporting.
  17. You've had two logs on your first cache within 24 hours of its publication. I'd be happy with that. Have a look at the most popular caches in your area and see what common traits they have that may be bringing the people there.
  18. Thanks @searcherdog . It is the Drink & Chat #19. I will be contacting the EO in due course, after I confirm work schedule. Have you been to one of these events yourself?
  19. Coincidentally, I was out caching today and whilst reaching under a tree root with my left hand I used my right hand to steady myself, only to put my hand onto a shard of glass hiding in the leaf litter. I had to cut the caching short to go back to the car and clean the cut. That's why you shouldn't use glass!
  20. Thanks. I thought as much. There is an event not far from me in a couple of weeks. I'm going to try and attend that, work permitting. I'm not the best at walking into a room full of complete strangers though.
  21. Recently back into caching after nearly 10 years away from it. Partner and friends not interested in caching, dog will only begrudgingly go if I keep feeding him treats at GZ whilst I hunt. So, I'm looking for like minded people in my area. GAGB looks extremely quiet, YorkshireCaching seems to have gone by the way side, and I detest facebook. Anyone on here from North Leeds, or Yorkshire in general?
  22. What do you mean by control burn? Do you mean like when heather is periodically burnt to control how much grows? If so, can you ask the landowner of their burning schedule and disable the cache for that period?
  23. Good question. I was under the impression that most place them in premium, mystery (puzzle), or out of the way caches. I just did a quick survey of 250 caches in my local area, and here is what I found. Total TBs registered in caches - 19 TBs in Premium Caches - 2 TBs in Mystery Caches - 2 TBs in non-premium Traditional Caches - 15. There was 1 cache with 3 TBs in, 3 caches with 2 TBs in, 10 with 1 TB, and 236 with 0 TBs in. I know of at least 2 TBs that are not actually in the cache that is showing.
