  3. When I recieved it maps fpr Virginia were installed. I used a unlock on my version 6 and put Colorado maps on it. The unlock is for all regions. I just could not get it to work with the cds from my friend. Sorry about confusion, I am still new to this gps stuff.
  4. I still have the unit. I now have the cd's of city select version 4 and version 6 upgrade. I have tried to answer all the emails. If I missed one or failed to answer a question shoot me another email. Crusso, I would like to keep it as a package deal for now.
  5. I think it is the deluxe. It has the 19 meg memory. There are no city select cd's, unless I can get them from him.
  6. Got this gpsr from a friend. He did not want it so I will sale it. Has books, bean bag mount, top part fo ram mount, auto power cord, serial cord and lanyard. Price: $175 plus shipping. See pics at link below. Email - crayaco@bresnan.net Gps V
  7. Neo, I got a steal on the gps V. I do not really need it. Just could not pass it up. I want to leave the gps V unlocked on the cd that came with it. I may not keep the gps V so if I sale it I would like to let the city select that came with it go as well. Thanks for your reply. --Puttz--
  8. I have a 76cs and have city select v.6 already on my laptop. I just bought a used gps V that has a city select v.6 with it. Since there is already a City Select v.6 unlocked to the 76cs can I install the City Select v.6 and the mapsource that came with the GPS V on the same computer as the maps for the 76cs? I understand there are 2 unlocks for each set of maps. I do not want to use the other unlock I have for the maps on the 76cs. I hope this makes sense. --Ray--
  9. Was in USAF for 3 years 6 months and 19 days but who's counting? Served as technician for Radar, Missile Firing Circuits, and bombing computers on F-4. While in Viet Nam served in debriefing which I enjoyed. IMHO, I believe everyone should pull tour of duty in the military.
  10. I think I got it straightened out. I reentered the home coordinates and it got it right. Thanx LordSaw
  11. I noticed that my distance in GSAK is wierd. the mileage from my home reads 5552.4 to the closest cache. The actual distance as the crow flies is only about .5 of a mile. Is this a bug? doesn't matter what gpx file I load it still has the wierd mailage.
  12. I have thought of the length also. I will measure to see if it gets in the way of the locking mechanism to keep the GPSr in the mount. I am still open to any other ideas out there.
  13. DEMP, Good idea. That would keep from making modification to the mount. My laptop does not have a serial port. As I think a bout it, a hole would be cheaper than a cable and an adapter. LOL I knew a guy once who had six toes on his right foot. Every pair of shoes he bought he would cut a hole to let his sixth toe hang out. He would say, "I paid 30 dollars for the shoes but I would not take a million bux for the hole I cut in them."
  14. Was wondering if anyone has modified their Gramin mount so you can plug in USB cable while GPSr is mounted in an auto? I have thought I could Dremel a hole in the mount where I can plug in the USB and use the Laptop while it is mounted in the auto. You would have to remove the rubber cover that screws in. With a hole cut or drilled in the right place you could use the USB cable while the GPSr is in the mount. I am still a newb so any suggestions of how this has been done would be appreciated.
  15. I bought my 76CS three weeks ago and got great service. When the GPSr arrived the lanyard was missing. They contacted Garmin and It was in my hands in less than a week. They even answered my emails on the weekend. I will do business with them again.
  16. I just restored the defaults on the compass page and got the nice fat bearing pointer back. Thanks ,Renegade Knight, for getting my mind moving in the right direction. I am still new to GPSr's and learning. What a forum!
  17. Okay you have me thinking in the right direction, but I have changed some of the settings like "follow road" , "off road" , "prompted" ,"magentic" "true" north and etc. For some reason though the broken arrow is still with me. I will keep changing things until I get it. Thanks for help.
  18. I have a 76CS and have been using it for several days. I have ungraded the firmware to 3.5 and I got the bigger red bearing pointer on the compass. Now when I use the compass the arrow head and tail of the bearing pointer is in line but the middle of the pointer is a thin red line and is off set about the width of the line itself. I have tried removing batteries and reinstalling and recalibrating the compass. Anyone else had this problem? I am going the contact gramin and see if they have an idea.
  19. southdeltan, Thanks for filling me in. All I can say is, "the old codger learned something new today." Puttz
  20. I do not understand all there is to know about servers and forums, but i am a member of another forum and it has thousands of members and has very few issues. the only cost is to volunteer 10 bux every year or so. that site has no speed issues and runs very well. it is www.yotatech.com i am not criticizing, or arguing, just sharing what i know. which isn't much. so, no one take offense at this just making a comparison.
  21. NFA, I owned a magellan meridian gold. It is a nice GPSr. However, I bought the Garmin 76CS. I did this for the color display my eyes are not as good as they used to be. I like the extra built in memory. I do wish the 76CS had the SD card slot like the Gold. I like the longer battery life of the 76CS. My gold ate batteries at almost twice the rate of the 76CS. I think you would be happy with either unit, but if she is buying, go with the 76CS. JMHO. Puttz
