I wonder if there are lists, or other ways of downloading gpx files for individual countries? Obviously we can use the Pocket Query system but it would be nice if there were maintained lists for individual countries.
What do you mean? 1 GPX with all caches?
If you want to have all caches for a country you'll need database software (like GSAK) and create PQs per placed date (Jan 1, 2000 - Dec 31,2003 -- Jan 1, 2004 - Dec 31,2005 ...) max 1000/PQ. Once you have all caches (depending on the amount of caches this can take some time @10000 caches/day you will only need PQs for new caches to get the database up-to-date.
Of course, caches get archived so you will also need to do a "status check" on a regular basis so you can remove these caches.
I have all unfound Belgian caches in a database (24000+) and run 26 PQs every week and a status check every Monday. The day before a cachingtrip I "refresh" the caches selected for that day so they are also up-to-date.
Thanks for the reply. That's what I currently do and it works. Being lazy I wondered whether people maintain lists. rather like the Church Micro list, of different countries.

I panicked went to your profile | quick view | your finds | found it and there was a shortfall of 3 - but that coincides with the number of events I've attended, whic I think and hope covers it!
I am not sure about this. Mine was due to accidental double logging due to transfers from Opencaching to gc.com. Events are counted as finds.
The only downside is that the special cache that I did for my 2000th is now not my 2000th find! :-(

Be aware. Having imported the My Finds PQ into GSAK, even though you have deleted the logs at Groundspeaks end, the double logs will still be in GSAK unless you delete the database and import a new PQ.

Right. Sorted. Two were as I suggested above. One was a mistake on my part. Logged one in 2006 and then it was logged again in 2010 with a different entry.

Problem solved.
For some reason some of my found caches were on my GSAK ignore list.
The three listed as double-logged are a bit more complex. They are part of a series that was published on gc.com and opencaching. Some were on gc,com, some were on opencaching and some were on both. The CO moved them all to gc.com, so the three that were on both, and were logged on both must have had their logs transferred from opencaching to gc.com causing the double-logging.
I will sort this out later.

When I download My finds and put them into GSAK I find that there are 7 fewer finds in GSAK than appear on gc.com.
Any ideas?

Displaying them both on the same list screen - no, not with a Garmin. You can view Geocaches or Waypoints. On my Oregon 550 it does show both caches and waypoints on the map. Waypoints show as blue flags or a P symbol. Note that I'm just using a PQ copied to the GPS, not using GSAK.

Thanks again, Chris. I have checked, and you are quite right. This makes life a lot easier, not having to switch from one list to another. I am doing a series tomorrow in which you have to pick up numbers from waypoints on the way round so that you can get the co-ords of the bonus. I was worried about missing one but I can now see where the waypoints are.

It would be good if I could find a way of displaying caches and waypoints on the same screen or map.

I use the Send Waypoints option under the GPS menu option in GSAK to transfer from GSAK to my Oregon 600. As long as you have GSAK set to Oregon 600 the child waypoints can be found by selecting "Where To?" then "Extras" and you see the list of child waypoints grouped together eg "Geocachers_Parking Area". When GSAK generates the ggz file it sends the other waypoints as Garmin POI (point of interest) files.

It will display the main waypoints with no problem but doesn't show the child waypoints that are in the cache description.
Am I doing something wrong? If so, please let me know what it is.

My bold above. If you mean coordinates someone has written into the description then no, it won't show them as they are not coordinates but just plain text. If you mean the additional waypoints on the cache page then it should certainly show them. I don't use GSAK to put caches on my Oregon, I just transfer the two GPX files and it works fine.

Along the same lines as Graculaus.
IF the coordinates are written in the description -rather than as Additional Waypoints- GSAK has a macro to add them as child waypoints. (It can also get them from logs..!)

I have discovered that the GSAK format does not work properly in the Oregon. It appears not to store the additional waypoints as waypoints. Having followed your advice and stored the two files, one with and one without child waypoints, I can see the caches on the main screen and the child waypoints in the waypoint manager. I assume that this is the right way to do it?

Recently the Facebook link, to share this adventure, has ceased to work. The icon doesn't look quite right. I have tried it in Pale Moon, my preferred browser, and in IE, but there is no difference. Has anyone any ideas on why this problem might have occurred?

I had my first go with my new Oregon 600. Found it quite easily to pick up. But when I went to find the logs for both found and DNF I hit problems.
I couldn't find the logs I had written. Any ideas?

All the newer units are better than that one undercover but all units degrade under tree cover somewhat. Giving us your price range would help.
At the moment I am just interested. I have got used to my GPS12 over the years and can generally cope with this problem. If it ever packed up I would have to replace it. Then I would see how much I had to spend! :-)

I have been using my GPS12 since I began caching. It is very reliable and accurate. Its only major problem is that it is not so good under tree cover, the needle (almost) consistently pointing in exactly the opposite direction to the cache. I noticed this twice yesterday.
Hence my question - which is the best GPSr under tree cover?

Just recently I have read an increasing number of logs where the cacher has claimed a find and then said that they couldn't sign the log as they had no pen.
The essence of caching is that the only proof of a find is that the log is signed. The whole point is lost if this is allowed.
What do other cachers think? Do you delete a find if the logbook has not been signed?

the bottom right option is called Is Active put a tick in there and it will only return active (ie not disabled caches.)I wondered about that - but wasn't sure.

I'd heard of double-posting, but TRIPLE-POSTING? I doubt anybody will send you the files, but if you just say what GPS you have (eg mine is Garmin Oregon 450) then We'll be able to look it up and see if it supports paperless caching. The other option is to pay $10 for a tri-monthly membership, and then you can see for yourself.
