Have you called to ask if they will sell it to you without...? Sell the Topo or give it as a gift to a friend. Just as an FYI, if you buy it from the store in Maine, they will sell it to you for 50 bux cheaper than the usual outlet advertised prices, L.L. bean etc... Not certain if they will honor that if you are buying on line from them though. We happen to be in Maine, not far from the store and we were pleasantly surprised to get that price, just down the road from Beans too... Best, Rob
  2. Don, Bingo... That was it. Man, the brain can be a cruel bowl of Jello sometimes. I kept running in circle trying to figure out how I had done that before. Sheesh... Good to know about the "Discovered" as well, often I will leave a TB if I know I cannot move it due to the travel schedule. Thanks very much, Rob
  3. While in San Diego the last time back in Dec I picked up a cool Scout TB, brought it home with the intend to leave it here. Well I got busy and forgot to go drop it somewhere and time is getting tight to get it placed before heading back out west. What I want to do is log the TB as having Visited a cache here in Maine so as to add the miles to its map but I have had a brain cramp and cannot seem to get to that drop down menu. I know I have done this before. Can someone please point me to the correct path to log this as Visiting a cache please…? Do I need to log is as Discovered from the cache where I found it then log it elsewhere…? I’m so confused. Thanks, Rob
  4. Thanks all, lots to select from there in the links and help provided... I am in hopes of finding a cache in Maine so as to bring our oldest Grandson, a new Scout, along with us to place the Travel Bug... There are some in Mass so that is a possibility. Happy Holidays to all here. Thanks again, Rob
  5. I recently picked up a Travel Bug in California that was started by a Boy Scout Troop and found in a Scout placed cache. We will add our local council strip to the TB and move it along but I want to find other Scout specific caches. In searching for a suitable cache I used both the asterisk ( * ) and the quotes ( “ “ ) at the beginning and end of the word Scout as a wild card and got no results. To make it a little more complicated I am back in Maine for a bit and I would like to place the TB here so I would like to make a compound search by the word Scout and a Southern Maine Zip Code... The only reason for looking for a Scout specific cache is so that the TB will gain council strips or Scout related patches as it moves along, hopefully be seen by other Scout Units. Any hints for searching please..? Thanks, Rob
  6. Sue and I take Madison with us as much as possible, she is a chocolate Lab and she loves to be out on an adventure with us. When we cache with our Son and his family they bring there black Lab Bailey and they really make a day of it. In areas that she is allowed to be off leash she puts on about three miles to our one... LOL... Cross country skiing is a great workout for her. Our first and so far only Pathtag is of our beloved Madison... Best, Rob
  7. We bike often at home in Maine but not close to home because we have claimed all of those... We do cart them off to an area to cache once in a bit... I often travel to San Diego and this past month, while I have been staying in Coronado I bought a bicycle to tool around on. There were many caches to keep me busy for a couple of weeks and I was able to get some good rides in... When I go over to the city I bring the bike and look for caches that are of the main drags, Balboa Park has many and that is good riding. I see taking the bike with me to Yuma next month too. Seems to be more of an adventure even if I ride only on the street, carry a backpack, trail snacks and water, good fun. Best, Rob
  8. Oh I am very happy with the places that caching has brought us and the experience from having gone to those places.... There are walking paths, nature conservancies and hiking areas that are in our own state that I was not aware of a short time ago, amazing. My Wife and I are the team of desuro and I have been more active than ever since traveling a great deal more for work adding California and Alabama to our places cached with more to come, we travel in the summers by motorcycle and always cache while we are out and about... Good stuff... Best, Rob
  9. I am having a good time in the San Diego area although I am only able to go caching on Saturday afternoons and Sunday's... We just reached 400 caches and over this weekend. Not a huge milestone compared to many here but were diggin' it. That is all, Rob
  10. We know you will... In your own time, don't rush it young man... And when you do, the feeling will be the same as you just experienced, maybe better. Good on whomever did that... Great bunch of folks here. Best, Rob
  11. Ok, so update... Yes the manual cord input worked Nd I am pleased to how to do that, thanks very much. I planned to and did just as you stated and printed the couple that I wanted to go get. One was great but the other I did not attempt as the parking situation was just ridiculous... The was none within three city blocks, close proximity to an upscale hotel with parking for cabs only... Weird. I may return there when I cart the bicycle off to the city with me but for now I could not be bothered. I still had a productive day off and had a great time of it. Left two TBs that I brought with me from Maine and picked up another, a Scout related TB that we will add to and bring back East. I will also read up on the PQ procedure and be prepared for the next outing. Good stuff. Ya know, I really dig this game... Thanks again all. Best, Rob
  12. dp, Well, I will not know if it worked out yet or not, I'll try it out tomorrow.... You'll have to forgive me if I ask what a PQ is and how those are loaded... Yes, my mistake was not filling up the PN60 with more caches than I possibly could have found during this trip out to San Diego... live and learn and I will load many more next time out. I just do not like to carry another laptop if I do not have to... All right, Thanks, Rob
  13. Nice, I did the manual add for a cache that I want to go find and I'll try it out Saturday, too dark after work already... The cords are saved under waypoints and assigned a waypoint number. I am excited to try this out and I will write down or print the description info from the cache that I may need and the hint... This is a little cumbersome but not a big ta- do and at least I can add caches. Thanks very much, I appreciate the assistance. Best, Rob
  14. Hey cachers... I have an odd problem that I am in hopes that someone can help me with. In preparation for traveling to California for an extended work stay I loaded up about thirty caches into the DeLorme PN-60 within a five kilometer radius of where I would be staying and set off. Well there are so many more in the area to go snag that I am wanting to add some however, I did not bring my personal laptop, only the iPad and Geocaching.com and Apple are not on speaking terms... Is there a way to add caches manually into the PN-60 ...? I do have a work laptop but cannot load stuff onto that unit, DOD regs and alll that... Any help is appreciated. Best, Rob
  15. Yup, good idea, I loaded a bunch from the park. I just got in to town so I'll dance on over there Saturday probably... Thanks, Rob What a nice day in the park.... I had several loaded up in the area and three in the park which I found, good stuff. The next day I went up to Lake Henshaw to drop off a Travel Bug that came from Japan and wanted to see the lakes of the world with photos on the site... The TB started in Japan, came to the Northeast USA and has also been around the Mid West... we decided to bring it out here to Cali. Happy Hunting, Rob

  17. Thanks j, I just posted it over there, I figured General Discussion would be the place for it and I had not seen that section prior... Sorry about that. I'll delete this later. Thanks, Rob
  18. I have come seeking advise... I will be heading out to San Diego in a couple of days for another month long gig... I do have a few caches loaded into the PN-60 that I have found while looking around but... There are so many caches out there that I quickly became overwhelmed with the sheer numbers and I did not know which ones to choose. Are there caches in the greater San Diego area that are, in your opinion "Must Do" and on your list of fun caches to go searching for....? Generally we like to go on a walking path, in a park or preserve, that type of thing but we are not opposed to other city type adventures if they are indeed historically significant or a fun walk or search. One restriction that I have is that I will not have a great number of days to go caching however, I will try to make time in the late afternoons or Sundays to be out and about. So, Whatcahagot...? Thanks much, Rob
