J'ai trouvé un autre forum, très québecois celui-là Forum GPS misouris.com Vous me donnez le goût de sortir mon auto pour courir les caches et en établir une moi-même. À la revoyure, Hi guys from Quebec, I am happy to read french language of molière. I found another forum in Quebec Forum GPS misouris.com You give me the desire to take out my car (in the garage for the winter) and go geocashing. Bye,

North Vancouver -- Equipment Recommendation?
coureur des bois replied to moburgers's topic in Canada
From my experience, Quadhelix antenna is far better. For the same goal you have, I sold my Etrex Legent to have an Quadhelix antenna (60CS) and I am very satisfied. Map 76 will do the same. Usually, to go in forest, I connect an external antenna (under my hat) and I have more precision. Gilson antennas are not expensive and they make a good job. Garmin has good ones to. I bought one and do not use it. The first time I put my 60CS in the hole, I saw it was broken ! Just one use ! I did not push it to strong but my confiance is gone: it is not reliable I think. I now use an other system: I secure my GPS on the front bag of my bike. For my truck, I use velcro pad. When riding in trails, I put my unit in my shirt pocket with the antenna under my hat. Garmin Etrex Legend 8 Mb Gps With Pc Cable
coureur des bois replied to mkemmet's topic in GPS technology and devices
Etrex Legend is a good unit. I had it as my first GPS. I changed it because this Legend cannot accept an external antenna. Those antennas are better than the Etrex «patch» antenna. But some geocashers use a reradiating antenna when they walk under the foliage of the woods. On the river, you don't need ann external antenna, because you are not under the treees. plein air -
Par respect pour nos amis canadiens anglosaxons: Welcome in the Club ! No I did not place any cache yet because my car is in the garage for all the winter. Whithout a car, it is difficult to watch a cache. It is more easy for me to do ski, trails, snowshoes, carrying my GPS to establish maps of the trailsI walk in. Hope we will meet some day. Bye, Jacques

Hi Car37&Holly I am from Quebec city. I do mainly «randonnées pédestres» and try to do maps for hiking and cycling. Sometimes I go to geocashing, but find it difficult without a car during the winter. If you find a cheap laptop, tell us. I'm lokking for that too. I do not know about the next event but will be pleased to meet you if you ever com in Quebec city Bye, Jacques

I don't find very often messages from Quebec here. Probably I am the only one. If not, may be we could exchange informations more local than Canada. Thoses informations from the whole country are very interesting, but they dont speak very often of my [patelin] Québec. Jacques, from Quebecjavascript:emoticon('') smilie www.velocarte.com

Garmin 60cs Or Magellan Meridian Platinum?
coureur des bois replied to TCMR-Team's topic in GPS technology and devices
The only thing I find to be difficult with the 60CS I use now, is the compression of «tracks» when I save a trip. I do not have this problem when I use the Active log without saving it. But because I use my GPS mainly to produce maps of the trails I walked, I would like differentiate tracks of different days of trip, (tracks, routes and waypoints). Actually, I use a palm do do it and I find it complicated and hasardous to use my PDA for a week long in the trails. javascript:add_smilie("") Is it possible, with the Platinum, to save traces (and Waypoints) on the SD card and to begin a new one on the unit itself ? Sorry for the mistake. My bad english confused me on the message.

Are Gpsr Affected By Cold Temperature?
coureur des bois replied to Redeyesi's topic in GPS technology and devices
We have the same situation here in Quebec. I use to cary my GPS60Cs in my shirt pocket and use an external antenna over my head, under my hat. Same for camera: under the winter coat. Or use someting like this installation of batteries which you keep in your pockets. This kit give me full power of 10 volts for my unit. Jacques -
Gps Reception On Mountain Trail
coureur des bois replied to wshelley46060's topic in GPS technology and devices
I use an antenna every time I go in the woods. I put this antenna under my hat (Tilly hat during the summer, and an other kind during the winter). The only thing people see is the wire behind my head, about 2 inches of black wire. People dont notice it. reception is very good with that. I tried Garmin antenna (GA 27 C) and Gilson. Garmin antenna is better than the other one I think. I get a fix more rapidly. Jacques -
I use it to have a map in my 60CS ans I find it relatively good. Take care to the time of downloading maps on your GPS. I made a mistake last time and put the v in the choice to download maps with waypoints and route. I spend the afternoon waiting for my computer. I will download a small amount of maps next time. Its is very convenient when hiking to see on the map where you are. Only for that it worths the price. I use it to store waypoints ant tracks as a back up and to see my tracks on map. Maps are good on elevation. They show streams, rivers, but not trails in forest. I do not regret my dollars. Jacques

Thank you PDOP's for the quality of your information. Jacques

Thanks to PDOPS. I tried GPilotS and it is a good product. It makes easy to back up your GPS info after a day trip. An other question: how could we put thoses informations in our PC without uploading them back to the GPS ? What interface ? Thank you, Jacques
