  1. I'm current working on an underwater Multi-Cache of sorts. Without giving too much away, it involves a 15 inch rubber fish, some weights and a net. It's the first time I've tried to do something like this but i'm hoping it works really well and gives cachers in my area something a bit different.
  2. Hi guys, I've recently resurrected a blog that i started a while ago but unfortunately neglected. I was wondering what kind of things you like to read about when it comes to caching and what sort of extras you like to see on a caching blog? A lot of the content is going to be my experiences as a cacher but i want to write some interesting and thought provoking articles covering all aspects of Geocaching. I was also thinking about getting some equipment and product reviews but unfortunately i haven't got the funds to buy and test lots of gear. If anyone would like to write a review for a piece of equipment be it for a GPS unit or a pair of hiking boots, please feel free to contact me about having it put on the site. Another aspect i am currently testing is an easy to use interactive map, showing events in your local area. It works pretty well but i'm trying to streamline the process at the moment so only London events are listed. Other than that, content is quite thin. If anyone wants to take a look and make some suggestions then feel free to take a look at GoGeoUK.blogspot.com Dubzie
  3. Hey Sarah, thanks for taking a look. You are quite correct, there aren't any actual posts yet but i am trying to get some of my other pages up to scratch before i launch it "officially". I want it to be more than just a blog, so will have pages dedicated to events, reviews, trackables etc. Hopefully all that will be completed over the weekend so by Monday there should be something worth reading. Once again, thanks for stopping by.

  5. I've been using the iPhone app for quite a while now and I love it. Was good on my old 3G but now i have the iP4 its brilliant. Just a heads up to a previous post, the app is £5.99 not £10. Bargain in my eyes!!!
  6. Hey Guys and Gals, I just want to let everyone know about a blog of mine to try and get some people reading. Go Geo UK It's still a work in progress but I am trying to cover many different aspects of Geocaching in the UK. I am updating and working on it pretty much every day and trying to promote it through forums and Twitter etc. There is a section for UK events so if anybody wants their event featured, i will be sure to add it. You can contact me via the email address on my site, through the forums or through the Geocaching website. Please feel free to leave me some comments on what you think i should include on the site or even about something you dont like. Thanks Dubzie86
  7. Hi, hoping someone can give me a quick answer to this. Is a "Site of Local Importance" classified the same way as a SSSI, as in I cant place a cache there? Many Thanks, Dubzie
  8. Ill crack on with setting it up then. Thanks Again!
  9. Thanks for the replies guys. It isnt an country park and its not a SSSI as far as im aware. It is a small circular walk around a lake in a place called "Clock Tower Gardens". It is a public place, great on a hot summers day for taking a stroll, but not very well know about as it is hidden away, hence the reason for placing a cache. I have checked the GAGB and there are no agreements in place and i cant find any information on the land owner. I will get onto my local reviewer and get their opinion! Thanks again guys!!!

  11. I have a bit of a dilemma. I have recently bought all the gear i need to place my next cache and have deciced on the cache location however im having a problem obtaining permission. I havent had my request denied, rather, im not getting any reply at all. I have emailed the relevant people on numerous occasions and have even followed up with countless telephone calls but i either get no reply or no return phone call. I am assuming that permission probably would be granted as there are caches on other land owned by Havering Council which leads me to believe that someone out there must of had some success. So is there anyone out there who can give me a contact name/number/email for the person i need to contact at Havering Council? If not, then if this problem was explained to a reviewer, would my cache get published anyway? Thanks in advance for all and any replys!!!
  12. Thanks for replying Sarah, I have checked the GAGB website and unfortunately there isnt an agreement in place. I will move my post to the UK forum though and see if i have some joy. Thanks Again.

  14. Just because I live in Essex, doesn't mean that the whole of it is Local. Would you tell someone you are going to your local pub, then travel 90 minutes to get there...
  15. Haha, I do hope you realised i meant MY local area...
  16. Andy K, I am indeed not far from Thurrock. Cast your mind back to last Friday and you might remember that we actually met at the Thorndon CP Event. I'll be sure to let you know if/when I do decide go ahead a place my caches. Dubzie
  17. I honestly don't know why people don't understand my purpose behind this cache. I have explained in various posts, my reasons and intentions. If you haven't taken the time to read them then you're obviously not going to understand. This cache isn't intended for me to learn about cache placement. I already have (what i believe) to be an ideal spot for my next cache for when the bits ive ordered arrive. The purpose of this cache, was mainly to find out about the processes involved in setting up a cache, filling out the form, things i might be asked by a reviewer, permission i might need and learning how to get an average co-ord. In the process, i was going to have it as a little stop gap cache between 2 nice caches in my area (ill explain again that they are few and far between in my area, so maybe the prospect of more than 2 caches will encourage people to make the journey). Those caches then lead onto a nice caching route into the next town. I know that all of the above probably isn't in the spirit of the game, but if it means my next cache can be placed quickly, easily and without me getting into any trouble then im sure one little micro isnt going to hurt anyone. If anything, if it kept you guys happy, i would disable it after my next cache is set. On the other hand, maybe i just wont bother all together and just stick to finding rather than hiding.
  18. Well then, unlike other people who frequent these Forums, lets agree to disagree. Oh and Deceangi, that would be brilliant. Don't wanna make a habit of micros but the more equipment the better! I'll PM you later.
  19. Amberel, No offence taken. I fully appreciate the coments from other people who have more experience than myself. I understand your points, but i am merely trying to walk before i can run. I do have a more imaginative cache planned, but it will only be released when i have everything i need and i have done all the prep work needed. Speaking of lack of prep work... Only this week, a cacher in my area, with very few finds and no other hides, decided to place a Multi-Cache. Needless to say, this cache has over 6 DNF's within a week and no finds to date. I have looked, my cache partner has looked and even a couple of very experienced cachers have looked. We are all under the impression that somewhere along the line the co-ords have been entered wrong or some of the clues along the way are incorrect. Now, to me, this is more annoying. I made a special journey out, to get an FTF, only to find that its not there. While i appreciate this persons ambition, it's simply a case of running before walking. Thats all im trying to do, introduce myself slowly. P.S. The Blorenges just noticed your reply. Many Thanks, i'll check that out!!!
  20. Lone R, Another one who scrolls to the newest post without reading the OP? If you have read the OP then you missed the part where i explained that this was my first cache hide, intended to be a learning experience. You may have also missed post #24 where i also explain that this is also being used as a stop gap between 2 other caches that then lead onto a nice route of caches? (There are only a few caches in my area. Another cache will hopefully make the area more worthwhile of a visit). Another point to note is that, as previously mentioned, i am waiting for some goods that i have ordered in, to make a larger, more imaginative cache hide. I must however apologise myself, as i didnt make it clear that i meant it was a cachers fave from a hiders POV and yes, coincidentally i did get it free from my very first event. I shall hopefully be including a pencil of some kind as it's personal bug bear of mine when one isn't included and not all cachers enjoy the same aspects of Geocaching. For some (my self included), it is actually about the walk/area/views, for others (again, myself included) it is about the numbers. Don't like micros? Dont hunt them!
  21. I shall be using the good ol' cachers favourite, a 35mm film container. Im going to go for a bit of a camo design as there is a decent amount of foliage behind the cache site. Ive laminated any documents i can (obviously not the log book but this will be in a small zip lock). I work at a company that, among other things, sell rubber seals, so i may also try and waterproof the container even more (space permitting). As i said, i do hope to try and take alot of care over this and future caches. I would like people to enjoy finding them and to be recognised as one of those cachers who is thoughtful about his caches. Many thanks to everyone who has posted. It's all been food for thought. Dubzie
  22. Pharisee, If you were kind enough to have read my OP, you would have seen that this is my very first cache and I want to keep it as simple as possible. The main reason for me putting it there is so i can familiarise myself with the rules of placing a cache and with cache maintenance as well. It also makes a nice stop gap cache between 2 existing caches in my area (they are few and far between in my town), which then link onto a nice route of caches into the next town. While i admit that it isnt the most adventurous of caches, i am trying to put alot of thought and care into it so that it isn't "just another micro". It's all in aid of gaining experience while i wait for the goods ive ordered to turn up for my next cache (which will hopefully be a bit more adventurous) In other words, im walking before i can run, or in cacher terms, think of it as finding 1,1's before jumping straight to 5,5's. On another note, Bear and Ragged, that was the answer i was looking for. Thanks!!!
  23. Now now guys. Lets not turn this into a slanging match, too many posts are going that way atm!!! Now as much as i appreciate everyones comments and as much as im grateful that people actually replied, im not one for analogies or stories. All i really wanted, was a straight forward, yes or no answer as to whether or not i could place a cache, magnetically, to the back of a digi box, in the street, without explicit permission from the box owner. As you will see in my OP, this is my first cache, and i was simply covering my arse before making any "school boy" errors. From what ive read here, and a few other places, i've come to the conclusion that im going to place the cache, and not ask too many questions. If i have it wrong, then please someone correct me in the simplest way possible.
  24. So basically, "Adequate Permission" would be the reviewer and I both agreeing that it's not going to do any harm where it is. I.E, we'll keep quiet if you do? Sorry to keep this dragging on but, just want to do things as "By The Book" as possible. Again, many thanks to everyone who has contributed. Dubzie
  25. So what were saying is that, ideally i should get permission, but if i cant, i should place it anyway and hope for the best??? Dubzie
