  1. I tried for an ammo can buried under decorative rocks in the divider at the entrance to a mall in Arizona. But the lady in the zebra-striped floppy hat was always sitting in her Buick or letting her dog take a leak just a few feet form there. Turned out she was living out of her car there, and it took the local PD a while to run her off. Total wait - 2 weeks.
  2. See the bottom of posts #5 and #7.
  3. Ummm... it's supposed to be two separate comma-shaped coins - one tracking number for each part. I concur with the other parts, though.
  4. It's amazing what people will try. Someone slashed my Jeep windows and stole my stereo from the parking lot while I was at work. Took guts, too, because I worked for Brink's armored at the time - over 70 employees, each with his own handgun plus a few shotguns thrown in. I got the last laugh though, because the CD player had quit working the week before. Way to steal a busted no-good radio, dipstick.
  5. I recommend heading over to Off Topic and asking around. There's a lot more of them over there...
  6. Just tossing out a guess here, but what if those weren't intended for "release into the wild"? If TPTB think everyone who gets one is going to keep it, they wouldn't bother with the normal FIND options. First thing I thought of when more than one person had the same issue with the same coin. Or maybe I'm just full of crap. It's hard to tell most days.
  7. Got it. Thanks for clarifying.
  8. Hmmm. The cache does NOT appear under the (MINE) list of geocaches from that account. I may have used my parents' account and put the new team name down as the owners from there. That would technically make THEM the maintainers. Right? I'll have to get them to log on and see if they have access. I'll update later...
  9. The Logged In As... and the Owned By... names are the same. Not sure how else to check. (The cache is called Big Four Arches by All The E's, if that helps anything).
  10. Uh oh! I created a team name in order to hide a cache that is being maintained by two teams (my family and my parents). Someone posted a note about possible property issues as well as trash in the area. I went to the page and logged in under the team name in order to temporarily archive the cache. The cache owner options don't show up on the page! What gives? Anyone else have this problem? How do I maintain the page if I can't find those options? Help!
  11. Thanks very much. I believe that I will wind up adopting a similar plan. Most for sales / swag. A few for trading only / special swag. Unless I hear a convincing argument against it soon (I am paying the company this month), I will do something similar. And thanks to everyone else for their opinions as well. All have been considered equally important.
  12. My apologies to everyone for not being clear. Please allow me to say again for the record... I AM NOT LOOKING FOR ORDERS OR REQUESTS. IF I CHOOSE TO SELL (VERSUS TRADING ONLY), I WILL BEGIN A THREAD SPECIFICALLY FOR THAT PURPOSE. My intent here is to clarify some questions that possibly other newbies have as well. Thanks to everyone for your patience with the new guy. I guess you didn't see the BIG picture! Just being silly, don't hurt me. OT, I vote buy 100 and trade. Shy!! My kids are dying to meet you (or specifically, your dog). You hid the first cache we ever found as a family (The Four E's). Back on topic - I ask again... is it common to keep a different style (different material) of the same coin as a trade / drop only coin, and sell a "common" version?
  13. Ditto. There's nothing special about a coin that anybody can get/buy. Make them personal, and leave them in caches or do trades for them. Along that track, then... Is this different from having a limited or special edition, which I would keep for trading / releasing? Is it a standard practice to sell a bunch of "common" version coins, and keep / trade a different version of the same coin? {Can you tell I am new to this?}
  14. I was stationed in Baden-Wurtemburg for three years (specifically, Mannheim, then Heidelberg). Any chances of a coin coming from that area eventually? Or is FRM (Frankfurt / Rhein-Main) going to be as close as I will get?
  15. I'm definitely going to get them made. I am just trying to get a feel for the current "market," if you will. If plenty of people have been able to sell enough to make a 500-coin pressing worth it, I will pursue that. If not, I will stick to my original plan of just getting 100 coins made. And I won't forget JayBee. Looking forward to tomorrow's shipment. Thanks.
  16. Ummm... the coin is supposed to be Bessie - the dead cow head on the front of my Jeep (the tiny white blob in the middle of the avatar). The four squares on the back are my personal logo - stylized representations of air, earth, fire, and water. Thanks for the info on your coin, too.
  17. I need some advice from people who have made large numbers of coins and sold them. This will be my personal geocoin once it gets minted. My initial plan was to just get 100 made, sell a few, trade a few, set a few loose. The usual. The coinsandpins guy has a really good deal if I buy 500 - enough to get an icon as well. I would need to sell a BUNCH of these to make it worth that kind of investment. My questions - how many of you have wound up 'eating' a bunch of your coins because you bought enough to get the icon and then never sold all the ones you wanted to? How many of you sold all your coins right away? In short, how likely am I to wind up sleeping on the couch for an indetermined amount of time when I buy FIVE TIMES the number of coins I was going to just for a price break and an icon, then fail to sell the excess coins? Help. Please.
  18. I have an easy one and a tough one - I am looking for the Indiana Hoosiers coin with the covered bridge on it. I'd also like to get BelKen's Geocaching Around Australia coin. I only have - Cache or Die Trying (silver) Arizona Geocacher and Geofaxe I would be willing to buy either of the coins I am seeking, as well.
  19. People who ride in your car are constantly asking about the "diaper bag" - you know, the one with ziploc bags, snacks, and small toys in it... when they know you don't have small children.
  20. This may not be the forum for this, but what's the fascination with the bike coins? Limited number? Special metal? Haven't seen one. Got no idea why everyone wants one.
  21. I hard-wired my Meridian into my Jeep, and now the cable is on-again / off-again with power to the MerPlat. I'd prefer not to buy a new one if someone has a 3-way cable laying around from a busted Meridian. Thanks in advance. Jay
  22. Thanks to you both for that. HUGE help there.
  23. You know, I see a thousand different coins listed, and I have no idea how to see what most of them even look like. I have bought extras of the two or three coins I liked, but I don't want to offer them for trade for a coin I've never seen. Any suggestions where I can find pictures of these coins?
  24. I'd say you were welcome - e-mail sent You TART Kitty Hawk!! Think we should chop you up and feed you to the f___ pigs?! Funny thing is, I was in the Navy many years ago, stationed aboard the USS Ranger (an aircraft carrier). The sister ship to the Ranger was the USS Kitty Hawk, stationed in San Diego for many a year.
  25. Don't know as a Yank that I'm even so welcome here. (I can recite most of "Lock, Stock" and "Snatch" by heart - won me points with the good UK Army guys in Baghdad!!) However, I was lucky enough to get an extra Isle of Man coin on that sale last night, and would be happy to trade for a UK coin if anyone is interested...
