  1. The coins that I just test-listed (as suggested to you earlier) were $6 each. I purchased the entire set with the wood display earlier this year as a gift for my father. It is an excellent value, and I can't wait for his second set.
  2. Thanks very much to you both for the information. I will start snooping around and see what I can find.
  3. Wow. All these professional traders in here, and no one knows where I can look for three coins. Can anyone at least tell me if these coins exist? I saw an Australia coin once, so I know those are out there. Has anyone ever seen a Baghdad or Heidelberg-specific coin?
  4. I'm not into coin trading, but I need some help here. I am trying to acquire geocoins from places I've been. I would like to find a coin that has something to do with Iraq (especially Baghdad), one from Mannheim or Heidelberg Germany, and one from Australia (especially Perth). I have acquired a GeoFaex Hohenlohe, an Arizona Geocacher 2006, and two silver Cache or Die Trying Coins. None of them are activated (I don't think the Arizona one is trackable). Can anyone help me get any of these coins? edit: I also have military coins from Air Force 21st Special Tactics Squadron, Special Operations Command (Korea), and Army 85th Division (EX). I don't collect military coins, either, if I haven't earned them.
  5. I get to see my family six days a month. If the weather is nice, we may spend a little quality time finding a couple of kid-oriented caches. But I definitely won't be doing anything that would detract from family time.
  6. You should hear her at karaoke. The cheaper the bar, the better. She used to go to karaoke night at Mama Connie's (or however you spell it) up by the lake when we lived in Monticello.
  7. Thank you to everyone who made me and my family feel welcome at Pokagon this weekend. The whole 'outdoors / camping / hiking in the woods' things isn't exactly my wife's cup of tea, but she said she had a great time. The kids (and the dog), too.
  8. Hey were right here and we missed you guys Saturday. Ali Kat felt all alone with all the Wolverines and Dogs at the event she would have liked haveing a Tigger there. She sure was awful cute. Was that on the buffet? Only for a minute when her mom set her down to get a scoop of that chili on the end. (Priorities, you know?)
  9. Well, if you're picture hadn't been on a poster on the bulletin board inside the door, you might have been able to relax a bit!
  10. My feeling is that there is nothing wrong with memorial caches. As an example, take a look at your post. You remembered everyone shot by Americans, but not one mention of the Americans who were shot. You see why they might even be necessary, or have you forgotten? Ummm.... He DID mention shot Americans...
  11. Hi, Mr. Obvious! Long-time listener, first-time caller.
  12. MY CACHE. I placed this cache near my house. I live a block from the city park on the primary residential street in the historic district (such as it is). My intent was to make an easily accessible urban cache that would not seem lame. My kids will occassionally run into the other room - "There's someone looking for the cache!" They are not 'being entertained' per se, they just like the fact that we put something there that others enjoy. I made sure to let the neighbors know what was going on. I don't know if the guy next door will ever buy a GPS, but he watches the listing now, and likes seeing others find the cache too. To wind up in anyone else's yard, your GPSr would have to be more than 30 feet off. And with the number of people who walk within 5 feet of the cache everyday, it doesn't make much difference to me whether they have a GPSr in their hand or not. Ours is not exactly a private location. I know that this is not everyone's cup of tea. I didn't put it here for 'everyone'. I'm just glad that a few people have enjoyed finding the cache and reading the page. Of course, I'm just a bald old Soldier with a mild case of PTSD and occassional Alzheimer's, so take everything I just said with a grain of salt. I won't remember it tomorrow, anyway.
  13. And my TJ doesn't require a snorkel to climb over rocks in the desert. And I didn't have to hack off my TJs fenders and bed to clear 32s. Back on topic, though... Mostly I have seen people who have gotten burned bynever having access to one of the JTBs. There are only so many times you can go to a cache that says it contains a JTB, only to find it stolen (obviously by another cacher - all the other stuff is still in the hidden cache container) without getting p**sed off. It could really make you not want to go look for any other contest Jeeps out there.
  14. Oh, my. If I failed to respond, I truly apologize. Yes, I believe that failing to reply would make someone feel unsure about the answer. After posting my overly-dramatic departure, I did not lurk around to see the results. I caught my PMs much later, and I honestly thought I replied to them all. In this public forum I will say that nothing you said directly contributed to my decision to leave. I promise.
  15. I think Mandollyn is feeling like a few of us newer people. The problems that were had in Cheers felt directed at the fact that newer people came in and "changed the atmosphere" or something. This was completely not what I think any of us intended to do. I'm being very quiet about the whole situation, but I really have a feeling that mission was accomplished in getting rid of some people that were not regulars. It is just my view. She's not the only one lurking and being VERY cautious, uncomfortable and feeling very unwelcome. I'm going to go out on a limb and risk the wrath of people whom I still consider my friends, and whom I walked out on instead of standing beside to help fix a problem. Some friend, me. But I'm going to say this for other people whom I also consider my friends to a greater or lesser degree. Mandollyn and queen_ladybug and other newbies to Cheers were involved in a contentious couple of days in Cheers that I will not re-visit here. I will instead ask a couple of questions on their behalf. When you are new to a place, how do you know what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior other that through the actions and words of those who were there before you? If the people there don't tell you that you are doing something they find unacceptable as soon as you do it, how will you know to stop until someone blows up at you? And finally, if you found that you had contributed to someone else's anxiety through your actions, would you not feel and express some sort of remorse and hope that someone in the place where you originally felt welcome would tell you, at least privately, that you are still welcome there (if you really are)? There is a good chance that I am missing quite a bit of the point because, like I said, I cut and ran rather than sticking around and trying to help. I know that I didn't see who got what PMs and when and from whom. From what I have seen, however, at least one or two of the "new people" made some sort of apology for their part in the stress. And from what I have seen, none of them has continued doing what caused that stress in the first place. If anyone can think of something to say or do to make the "newbies" feel welcome again, I'm sure it would be appreciated by them. If no one can, then maybe they are, indeed, not welcome. (Please note that personal attacks on me will be welcomed, but ONLY through PM if they don't help clarify the new peoples' state of welcome to them. However, if flaming me helps you let someone else know where they stand in your opinion, then by all means, "Flame On.")
  16. REUTERS - "The new Magellan Navigation headquarters construction was halted temporarily today when it was found that digging had begun approximately 50 feet from the intended location..."
  17. I found a set of Oakley sunglasses in a remote cache once, but I DEFINITELY didn't have anything to trade even with, so I left them. The person who left them got them issued to them in Iraq and never used them.
  18. Always kick the side of the Porta-John before sitting down, especially at night. The little splashing noise will be the scorpions falling down from the warm under-side of the seat. (Given during a safety brief upon arrival in Kuwait).
  19. I'm sure I just overlooked something here. When the coins are placed, are they logged into the caches? Or is it a case of "what the heck is this doing in here?" once you arrive and open the cache?
  20. "I saw her from across the parking lot. Just standing there, glistening in the hot summer sun. I knew at once I had to have her; she would be mine. Slowly I cruised over in my car, windows down, radio playing soft, romantic music. I pulled up next to her, got out of my car, but didn't say a word. I looked at her, and she just stood there, almost beckoning, taunting, teasing me. I knew what I wanted, and she had it. But would she give it away to a stranger? I was going to find out, regardless of the consequences. I began my approach, never taking my eyes off her. Slowly, but confidently I advanced. She didn't move an inch. It was as if she was saying "its all up to you, friend". Suddenly, I was beside her. I put one hand out, and touched her. She was hot, and smooth as a baby's bottom. I knew it was now or never, there was no turning back. I put my hands on her skirt, and pulled it straight up to see what was hidden beneath it. There it was, staring me in the face, only inches away. Slowly, cautiously, I reached out and grabbed it. Finally!! The cache was mine! Quickly signed the log, put the film can back under the skirt and was on my way. Thanks for the cache!" Well. Now I need a cold shower and a cigarette.
  21. You're right. I apologize. I fell for Troll-bait hook, line, and sinker, didn't I? Interesting how certain things can push a normally level-headed person's buttons. I won't let it happen again.
  22. Me? Every six months for the past five years, .223 (M-16), 40 rounds at a time, every human silhouette 300 meters and closer that has ever popped up in front of me. If I want to shoot, melt down, blow up, or saw into tiny pieces a coin that I have purchased and own outright, I don't recommend calling me names and insulting my anatomy in person. The anonymity of the internet sure brings out the "armchair toughguy" in a lot of people who maybe should get the whole story before spouting off.
  23. Ditto to a good deal of that. I was on the ADVON that scouted Camp Victory before we occupied it. Wound up in the CJTF-7 C5 by the time I left. We likely passed each other in that big honkin' dining facility. Do you still get a little shudder when you see Chicken Kiev?
  24. My personal recommendation, which is worth exactly nothing to anyone but me... Open your design in a program that will allow you to shrink the image to life size (2.5"). Is everything easy to read? Does it look too busy TO YOU? Are you happy with it, seeing it life size? Does your minter (is that even a word?) say that they can make it? If your primary plan is to sell as many of the coins as you can, run with all the suggestions you can cope with. If you are making it for your personal happiness and occasional trading with friends, stop fussing with it when you like it. You can make yourself nuts trying to please everyone. Having said that, my personal opinion is that it DOES look very busy. But my opinions are worth exactly as much as my personal recommendations...
