  1. Those caches round minsmere look good, they should occupy us for a few hours of dog walking/birdwatching/caching
  2. I am visiting friends in the lowestoft area soon, and am looking for some recommended cache walks to take them on any suggestions?
  3. it's so quiet I can hear the rats* that power the UK geocaching subforum *Now If you don't see me again it because Groundspeak have sent someone round to "deal with me" for revealing their biggest secret
  4. "What am I doing? That would be looking round acting suspiciously, the fact though is that I am waiting at this spot for no reason that concerns you and bid you a pleasent day"
  5. Seems a bit out of date! they have 525 owned caches, and if you count caches that have been adopted out it must be over 600!
  6. to cut a long story short i'm thinking of hiding a cache in the grounds (or boundary if the grounds are not always accessible) at a few local churches. Now is it the vicar who's name is on the info board for the church the relavent authoriy or is it their 'boss' so to speak?
  7. one local authority states some local authorities don't go into so much detail as to what you may and may not do on a right of way, The main purpose of a RoW is of course to allow passage between 2 places. It is reasonable to assume that unless specifically stated on signs along the RoW that you may stop at any point as long as consideration for other users is taken. If in doubt, enquire with your Local RoW team as to what you can do on land within your area
  8. any cache by ZagCatt or Team Marzipan you'll be inspired by the former, and will be spoilt for choice with the latter! There is also an event on in Wrexham on the 30th of sept
  9. As a dog owner these caches sound great, If I'm ever caching in that area I'll know these caches will lead me to a place where I can dispose of my dogs waste
  10. Found a multi that has not been found for 23 months yesterday
  11. round here they are always published on the day of the event so everyone attending can find them as a group effort. When it comes to FTF A lot of cachers round here see event cache series as a group effort so everyone who is in that group when the cache is first found gets joint FTF honors.
  12. Yep the dingle is a nice area for a picnic, and easy to find too. Make your way to http://coord.info/GC2P3NK and that will take you to the Dingle.
  13. I have 1st hand experienced a bomb scare, thankfully it was just that, a scare, back in the late 1990s a prank call was sent to my primary school claiming their was a bomb in the school, we were all evacuated and the police conducted a thorough search of the school. Of course, we all thought it was rather exciting, a bomb in the school- no more school.... a few years later with the terrorist attack of 9/11, the reality of the dangers of such events dawned on most of us, whilst others often asked "why terrorists would attack our town, there is nothing here?" simple, to cause terror. I don't recall what was going through the minds of our perents/ gaurdians when they where told, no doubt they were very conserned, so I know how serious things like this are taken. today, after such big terrorist attacks, people are highly suspicious, and it really is a case of better safe than sorry.
  14. I've got this vision of Deci leading a team of newbies through the looking for caches. "You've got 30 seconds to sign the log, do the swaps and rehide the cache" "You call that a fair swap?!!! get down and give me 20" "You call that hidden? A blind monkey could see it from a mile away, 5 circuits of the woods carrying a full ammo box above your heads" Oh I pictured all that too! And what makes you think he does not do that already? <shudder>
  15. I'm off down to pembrokshire soon so can anyone recommend some caches to do whilst I'm there. Along with the usual as many as possible.
  16. woman on the right of the group, garmin GPS round neck, does that count?
  17. I always take care around cattle, as they can be unpredictable especially if not used to people (those on lesser trod paths always seem more curious than those on well traveled routes in my experience), but they have not yet put me off walking through fields. Horses, having volunteered at the local horse santuary I'm quite comfortable around horses, they are stronged willed though so I do have a respect for them. Have walked through lots of fields of horses with no problems. Dogs, I find with cattle the calmer the dog the less likely they are to react. I regually take my non-working sheepdog to fields of cows for socialisation so she's usually pretty calm around cattle. Of course, maybe I've been lucky so far!
  18. I try to do most of my urban caching by bike assuming I can get my bike there in the 1st place! Quite handy when looking for nanos can act like I'm examining the bike! and allows a larger area to be covered than can normally be done on foot.
  19. Yes, in llandudno, Can't remember the username of the person who runs it though.
  20. All the info is in the link on the manufacturers website. but to save you clicking it yes it is compatible. So a waterproof to IPX-7 standards hard case that both increases the GPS accuracy and battery life of the iPhone is not a tempting accessory for an outdoor activity? (I thought it would be considering the number of iPhones I've seen that have cracked screens
  21. Came accross this via another forum http://www.magellangps.com/eu/en-gb/tough-case.htm It's a hardcase for the iPhone, that allows it to be used without removing from the case. Oh, it contains a SiRFstarIIII high sensitivity GPS chip and a 1840ah battery. should make the Iphone into a brilliant geocaching tool!
  22. Take a look at the attached screen shots, they should make it pretty clear.
