  1. I know it's in the guidelines but perhaps a lot of "problems" could be solved simply by stating on the cache submission form that: A Micro is any container smaller than 100ml in volume. A Small is any container with a volume of 100-1000ml (1l). A regular is a container with a volume ranging between 1-20L. Large is any container with a volume greater than 20L. Other, Does not fit into the above. Other is a contentious, it could be used by a CO to mean I do not want you to know what your looking for. it's a nano as part of local custom. a cache with no container i.e. a notebook made to look like a book in a Library or a waterproof sheet of paper on the back of a magnetic sheet.
  2. Good way to hide a large cache is to put it somewhere that it will fit into the environment. A 30l barrel could be hidden in plain sight if made to look like a game bird feeder as an example. Just remember to seal up any holes you make in the sides.
  3. Well your cache is on my ignore list as you clearly don't want me finding it More seriously though. Perhaps it's too close to the colony, typically ants will swarm over anything that could be a threat to move it away from the colony. Best move the container a short distance and see if that makes any difference.
  4. In the event a cache needs archiving for some reason follow these simple steps. Step 1: Click log visit Step 2: From the drop down menu select needs archived. Step 3: Explain why it needs archived. examples are large numbers of DNFs ignored Needs maintenance logs, owner not logged in for at least a year*, owner profile states they are "inactive". Step 4: If practical for you to do so, offer to adopt the cache. You can always pass it off to a more local cacher should on the off chance adoption go ahead. *It is commonly stated that any activity using API based apps does not register on the website. However IMO if you are a CO you should be logging into the website on a regular i.e. once a week.
  5. personal thoughts. Caches to be multi's so the cache icon is gold. physical aspects of the cache ie. size dependant upon induvidual CO's A standard format needs to be availible for everyone to use. last but not least, we need to wait and see if, there will be any more gold post boxes, expecially considering that the UK is not the host nation.
  6. Looking for the nearest archived cache to these coords. N 53° 17.006 W 003° 50.794 A cacher attempted to find my cache at those coords but they apparently found one that pre-dates mine so what could they have found?
  7. Is your dog motivated by play? If so teach him to search for caches. I would love to teach my dog to search for them but she is not toy motivated, and we can't place cheese in caches
  8. Of course we are not told what GPS Justahunter has and we must remember not every make or model of GPS has geocaching field note capabilities before we make that our default suggestion. Should your unit be compatible then it is the solution for automated logging, otherwise it's still a manual process.
  9. extending dog leads, one at the cache with a key on the end, that unlocks the next lead, and so on until you've got to the last lead with the tool to open the cache.
  10. Solution IMO is not to restrict the timeframe in which new cachers can begin hiding but for people to become more proactive in clearing up the rubbish. Personally if someone has not logged into the website for over 6 months, then they are IMO no longer active and an NA can be submitted. I was told that the last login date does not show the last date in which a login from an app or other API partner was made. Perhaps the site needs to indicate the last login date regardless of access via a browser or though the API?
  11. 4 from 4 accounts all at 7:45PM GMT. Seems to be a significant flaw in the message centre.
  12. A trackable stamp, if you want to go down that route then there is no reason not to. Most people only look through logbooks to find a blank space anyway. so it's not as if your going to get lots of discovered logs. Please however don't get trackable/ signature stickers and stick them on a every container, they are a pain to remove I've had to throw away many a good container because they have been covered in such stickers.
  13. Thanks, the GUID option is a little basic but at least it gives an overview that we could use on our website. The good thing is, you don't need to be registered on TB run to follow races so, will be using that to keep a more accurate track of the bugs.
  14. A few of the geocachers in a club I am part of have decided to hold a TB race in the new year. Is it in any way possible to display the bugs travel history and map on an external site so that the non-geocachers in the club can follow their progress?
  15. Step one Decide on the design i.e. do you want it to be something that can hold trackables? a book style cash box would work there. Or are you just going for a logbook? A notebook with home made cover would work there. Step 2 (or Alt. step 1 if you wish) go to the library ask to speak to whoever is responsible for the library and ask if you can hide a geocache in the reference section (it's easier if you can show them what you will be hiding hence step one) Step 3 place cache and submit for publication.
  16. Step one enter your preferred coords on the cache page. Step two Write a reviewer note asking for a check for any potential issues prior to placement. Step 3 submit your cache for review- This is the most important as your local reviewer will never see your request for the check if the listing is not submitted for review.
  17. ok, now I'm more awake... I personally have no issue with people replacing a damaged cache like for like where possible. I've done it myself. on other peoples caches. That is I've found the original cache, but it's in a poor state of repair so I've transferred everything that can be to a new and closely matching container if I've got one with me. I never have and never will leave a replacement if I cannot find one.
  18. They encourage lazy ownership. They encourage armchair maintenance. They give a false indication that all is ok with a cache. Discuss if you wish.
  19. Wherigo: the act of deciding what area to go caching in.
  20. Personally usually goes "24/06/ant" i tend not to add the year
  21. Reading through this I'm glad 90% of my caches are micros
  22. 2016 north wales mega 6th August. at Llangollen
  23. Things are different in the UK. Cache is screwed into post. A member of staff of the organisation that owns the land finds cache. removes, and re- attaches a few meters away due to them removing the original hiding location as part of landscaping works. Or, staff from same organisation finds similar cache. Removes cache from item due to item being replaced with brand new version. reattaches cache.
  24. I tried to get a few hundred sample containers from the local doctors. They refused
  25. Enjoy, if you do make it onto the Llangollen canal I should give you a heads up that my caches numbered 96-153 may be relocated by a few 100 metres . But I see that you have Wi-Fi on the boat so I'll email you the updated coordinates soon as I have them.
