  1. but you would develop a deep hatred of ivy and start to lose the will to live
  2. just make it slightly too wide and cram it in, that way all the cachers can have extra pleasure trying to get the thing out, like I did with a bolt cache yesterday!
  3. Ooh, so did I! (Didn't see you there though )
  4. Ah, but when does a pony become a horse? If you cannot answer this to my satisfaction now then I demand to have both!
  5. That'll be Ye Ole Survey Monuments - and like you, I really couldn't care less for it. In fact, I've managed to avoid logging it in any of it's incarnations for the past 6 ish years. But I appreciate that there will be cachers out there - particularly in the UK - for whom this will hold some appeal What? Not even just the once? MrsB I think he's staying away from hilltops in case he falls over and injures himself. I like the YOSM cache and if I ever get to one of the way points, I am happy to log it. It normally involves a reasonable amount of physical effort to get to each point, so it's certainly not an easy smiley.
  6. I picked up some coins at an event (off the pile on the table) only to discover that they had gone missing some months before. No clue as to who had dropped them off, but what a good way to 'launder' a TB that you have mislaid and then found again. The owners were pleased, anyhow.
  7. This is exactly what has happened to one of my TBs which is now stuck in this cache in germany until at least April. No very thoughtful of the person who left it there, but I suppose at least it should be safe enough.
  8. Thanks, I'll add those to my list, a bit out of my normal area but sounds like worth a trip. Maybe I'll extend my web pages to include recommendations that I haven't been to yet. Rgds, Andy In which case you should certainly add GCKZ29 which is the best cache I have ever done. It took myself and Jollyjax three whole days!
  9. ... and just imagine what else you might catch in a harbour?
  10. (gripping some wood tightly as I say this) I am lucky that I have never injured myself caching... apart from many unrecoverable injuries to my dignity. I was doing a local cache near a badger set and we had to clamber up a steep slippery bank. Needless to say, I fell over and slid down the bank through all the mud. But then my head and shoulders slid into a large badger hole neatly pinning my arms and as my body was uphill, it was a bit difficult to wiggle myself free. Luckily, there were no badgers at home to chew on my head and, once he had finished laughing at me and composed himself, my caching companion did pull me out.
  11. smack in the gob from Alibags too, for nicking her photo
  12. I heard of a man recently who got his watch back after it had been dropped into the harbour at Malta during the war. The harbour master still had a record of it and when it was dredged up, it was returned to him. After a clean, it still worked! I think that even if your Oregon is totalled, it would be interesting to try to get it back. A cacher I know (no names) dropped his Oregon into a river and blubbed until his caching mate waded in and retrieved it for him
  13. Only 1420 miles for GCWARY, so I am a bit of a lightweight!
  14. That's really nice. It's hard to do decent low light / long exposure shots like this. Was it propped on the rail of the Tyne Bridge then?
  15. Ah yes, 120 mile round trip to get there. A day of driving 80+ miles round a bunch of tossed into a grass verge caches with no actual cache contents which were never published, in the hope of finding a final bonus cache, which never materialised and then standing in the rain watching 5 seconds of fizzle... and paying £7 per head for the privilege. Happy days!
  16. LIKE!! I do not see that either setters or reviewers are under any obligation to make life easy for "FTF Hos" Mind you, I did once set a cache in the middle of a series because I knew some chums would be doing that series the next day. I delayed submitting the cache until after the time I knew they would have run their PQ. It had the desired effect as they rang me and abused me upon, having got home and logged their caches, sitting back to admire the map full of smilies and discovering an unfound trad right in the middle. Job done!
  17. Thank you! I'm from Manchester so all this country side goes straight over my head You're most welcome. One of the good things about caching is the chance to get out and see this stuff and if I spot something that I cannot indentify, such as an interesting plant or insect, I do try to Google for it later so I will know next time!
  18. ... but you will now do whatever I tell you, won't you
  19. Thanks for your kind comments about my wasp pic. I took it on a Canon Ixus point and shoot. I am not a big fan of wasps (understatement) so I kept nipping in, taking a shot and then running away again. Most of my attempts were a bit blurry! That was the best of the bunch, so I had to sacrifice the top of the flower, I am afraid. HolleyR - your ladybird is on a sweet chestnut tree, and the flutterby is a comma For people who don't have a phone with a panorama mode and fancy having a go at panorama shots, you could always try Autostitch, which is free to download and use and does a pretty good job. I was recommended it by another geocacher.
  20. Oi!!!! Cheeky b*ggers. It's just as well a certain Scottish reviewer did indicate to me what was going on otherwise we would be meeting in a small pub whom I had told to expect the usual number of cachers (ie about 20) and everyone would have ended up standing in the pub garden. I can see I am going to have to administer punishment to that Deceangi
  21. Interesting topic. I have had my caches replaced before when they have not needed it, causing extra maintenance work for me (but then again, I have replaced my own 'missing' caches causing duplicates more more often than that! ). I have taken a drop in the past a couple of times, when it was very clear the cache had gone (ie I have found some evidence of a trashed cache such as the lid). Ultimately, it's down to each player how they play the game and what they regard as 'fair play' or 'cheating'. Both highly emotive terms. It's only down to the cache owner to decide if they wish to let a log stand or if they wish to zap it.
  22. was waiting for some muggles to move on so I could maintain GCK7RV and took some photos whilst I was hanging about.
