  1. Hello Someone near Huntsville! I need some help in a non geocaching kind of way, and I'm calling on the geocaching community for it. I am (was) a geocacher in Canada, so I'm a little ways away from Alabama to do this myself. I am looking for a favor. I need photographs or a short video of something very specific in your area. It's an exhibit at the US Rocket and Space Center. Allow me to explain. Several months ago, a youtube user named "retiredafb" began posting videos on youtube of a top secret apollo mission to the moon called apollo 20. Retiredafb calls himself "William Rutledge", a 76 year old retired astronaut living in Rwanda. According to this guy, the "apollo 20" mission was a top secret joint mission between the soviets and the americans, flown in 1976, to document a 1.5 billion year old crashed alien spaceship on the darkside of the moon. I believe his videos to be a hoax, but the debunking community has had some real challenges with them. He is doing a fabulous job with the videos convincing thousands the contents are authentic. Everytime a debunker hits on something, it's argued by believers. The story goes long, and you're welcome to read all about it, but that's about all the background story I'll post on here. Goto youtube.com and throw "retiredafb" in the search field. He has about 14 videos uploaded. Ok, ONE of these videos has caused quite the discussion, it's his latest video, uploaded only a week ago. The link to this video is at the bottom of this post. The first 38 seconds of this video is what I am most interested in. It shows the filming of the INSIDE of the "Apollo 20" command module while in orbit around the moon. More specifically, it shows the combo american / soviet flag and the Apollo 20 patch. Many people have said that this shot would impossible to film if you were not in a command module, and there are no publicly accessible Command Modules in the world. This is true. BUT.. (Here's where you come in) IN the US Rocket and Space Center in Huntsville, THERE IS a publicly accessible TRAINING module as proven in this picture here: Click Here. Please note this picture is sideways, the occupants are actually on their backs. I believe the hoaxer has used this actual command module in huntsville, went inside, affixed the flag and logo, and with a video camera and took the footage you see in the first 38 seconds of this film. You can help me prove this. Here is the money shot from the video: Your Mission, should you choose to accept it: Photograph or Video this exact spot in the command module at the US Rocket and Space Center, and send the pics / video (hopefully both) to myself for comparison analysis. You will have to enter the module to document this and will probably be on your back taking pictures / video looking straight up. If there was any admission fee to enter the Center, I would be happy to paypal you the fee. I thank you in advance. Let's debunk this guy! Even if the pictures turn out not to be comparable, it would still make it more interesting. Link to the YouTube Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_He2EGu7pKk Thank you very much Alex.
  2. And the number one reason why geocaching is like sex.......(drum roll please) the size of your unit doesn't matter.. it's how you use it!
  3. Ig*nore", v. t. [imp. & p. p. Ignored; p. pr. & vb. n. Ignoring.]: To refuse to take notice of; to shut the eyes to; not to recognize; to disregard willfully and causelessly; as, to ignore certain facts; to ignore the presence of an objectionable forum post.
  4. Does anyone know how to do a search which would reveal the oldest active geocache? anyone know which one this is? Update-- forget it I found it.. it's Mountain Marsh. Used the "search" utilities I wonder why a post can't be deleted once it's posted.
  5. I bought the venture last year, and it is a great model, but sooner or later, you're going to want to want the mapping! Go Legend!

  7. Sorry if I am a little off the main topic, but in my experiences (kodak dx4330) the viewfinder is a horrid place to preview what your picture is actually going to look like. The Kodak has an autofocus feature, that when watching the LCD will turn red when in proper focus. This takes a few seconds and sometimes has to be done a few times (depending on light) to get right. Using the viewfinder and not knowing where your camera is focusing or what the end result is going to look like, just does not seem very productive for me. The Kodak also has a rechargeable battery system that allows more than 100 pictures before a recharge (with using the LCD) and recharge is only 2 hours. Battery life is never a problem. I always carry a Lith backup just in case that UFO needs more than a hundred pictures taken.
  8. If you are going to create an imaginary geocacher, make it OBVIOUS by using creative stories about how the cache was found. Build a character. Logs like "found the cache, it was fun" should never be allowed to stick. Just my 2c
  9. This has got to be it. I have a PDA with a 1xRTT Sierra Wireless card in it that connects to the 1x network provided by the local cell phone company at a speed of about 140 kbps. Now I can log the find, search for more geocaches in the area and send my grandmother an email all without stepping off the path. Does anyone else use this system?
