  5. I don't believe that INTRO APP users are killing the hobby. After all, each one of us was a newbie at one time or another. My problem is new, inexperienced cachers hiding caches before they have enough experience to understand what makes a good hide. This has always been as issue, but it seems to be more of an issue now that it is so much easier to get involved in geocaching. Nothing like reading "Our family has been caching for over a week. We decided it was time to hide our own..." I really think there should be some sort of guideline regarding the number of finds on an account, before they can actually hide a cache.
  6. But caches are NOT allowed to be buried.
  7. The Geo-trek series in Federal Way was an Eagle Scout project. It was designed to teach people more about the history of the Federal Way area.
  8. I second this motion. can we get this info before tomorrow? especially parking. Also, i got injured today...http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LUID=36589eba-7187-4fbc-9d5b-045c7a3fef82 but we're still coming, i'll just be ThumblessInSeattle for the duration Ouch!!! I'm not worried about the parking, I am taking the bus since I hate driving and parking in Seattle. I just want to know where to go once I get there. Last time we were just inside the door of the convention center that opens onto Freeway Park. I will be taking the bus myself and it is scheduled to arrive at Convention Center Station just before 8AM. See you all in the morning. I'm scheduled for the afternoon, but will probably arrive by about 10:00. After I drive the morning middle school carpool. What do we need to bring if anything?
  9. Took a quick look through the letterboxes listed on LBNA and didn't see any in Disco Park I just logged in to atlasquest and letterboxing.org At Atlasquest I found at least two active letterboxes in Discovery Park, there might be others.... Letterboxing.org showed a series of six in Discovery Park, but clicking one them brings up a note that the user has moved from the area and has removed all his/her boxes. The big problem with letterboxes is that they don't have a map feature on the various sites so you can't always tell where they are located.

  11. Our family had an EMP membership, we bought it because there was an exhibit we really wanted to see and the membership was only a few dolloars more than one visit would be...They have since dropped their prices, but I personally don't think it's worth the cost. I would rather spend my money on the Pacific Science Center. The Underground Tour can be fun, a lot depends on the tour guide. My sons (11 & 14) love the Museum of Flight. If you rent a car, the Washington State history Museum in Tacoma is nice. If you are in town on the Third Thursday of the month, the Art Museum, Washington State History Museum and Museum of Glass in Tacoma are open late until 8:00 pm with free admission from 5-8 pm. According to the website, the Klondike Gold Rush Museum will once again be offering a walking tour of Pioneer Square in Seattle starting June 23, at 2:00 in the afternoon. In the past this tour has ended at the observation deck of the Smith Tower. The tour is free, normally it's $5.00 - $7.50 to go up to the observation deck.
  12. I am looking forward to Wednesday, but I have a couple of questions... Where do we meet? What do we need to bring? Any other information that we need to know?
  13. Oops, I looked at the wrong #9. Thanks for the catch on my error. I was going to point out the typo, but I see that Allanon beat me to it..... I also wanted to let you know that I will NOT be available for a Thursday shift. I just can't work out the logistics of getting my sons out the door for school and making it to Seattle by 8 am. In the afternoon I have to transport them to a Knowledge Bowl meet so I have to be back by 2pm. I am looking forward to Wednesday afternoon. I can probably arrive between 9 and 10am if you need extra help on Wednesday morning. Just e-mail me.
  14. I would volunteer to help, but we promised the boys that this year we would participate as a team rather than volunteer to man a cache. If there is anything I can do to help, that would not prevent me from participating then feel free to contact me.
  15. I am available for Wednesday afternoon, possibly Wednesday morning and possibly Thursday morning. If help is still needed during any of these slots, just let me know...I am teaching on Friday, so I am not available that day.
  16. In our family, my husband first caught the caching bug, he signed up for an account n(KK7UZ) and often we would tag along but only he would log. A few months I decided to get an account, DiMonkey. I went back and physically logged some of the the caches I had found with my husband before I had and account, but only logged those that I returned to...Later our sons, broke off and became Cachinator & Co. Again they returned to some previous finds and only logged those. We then decided to get a family account, CampClan. We use this account whenever we are out as a group. We usually sign the log: CampClan KK7UZ, DiMonkey, Cachinator & Co. We will often vary the order we list the members, based on who actually found the cache (they get top billing). When we get home we we log for CampClan, and then as individuals. If we have a DNF we log it only as CampClan. This way it doesn't look to the owner or future hunters that "Oh no there have been 5 DNFs in a row, the cache must be missing..." If we are out as individuals, we log our finds and DNFs as such.
  17. Does anybody out there know which cache uses information from the book "All That the Rain Promises and More?" I remember reading about the cache several months ago and placed the book on hold at the library. The book finally arrived a couple of days ago...When I first went to pick up the book I thought, why did I request this book, it's not on a topic I normally read, then I remembered, "Oh yeah, there was a cache that used the book." Only problem is I forgot to jot down the name of the cache so I am sitting here with a book checked out, and no use for it. I would love to figure out which cache and look up the information before I have to return the book.
  18. I don't have a picture available, but one of the most unique I found was hidden in fake dog poop.
