What the heck happened to common sense.
What the heck happened to paragraphs and question marks?
I did onlyclaim to be of average intellagence.

We all suffer from Dumb a** Attacks. Some more than others. One thing that is funny is that it doesn't take common sense to breed so natural selection is working against us.
RK I knew you would be with me on this one. And your rightit is working against us..... But if we put sharp, bright, heavy pointy things with engines that clean, back into caches we can maybe even out the odds. Let the strong ones prevale.

I need to vent. What the heck happened to common sense. It seems like no one has it anymore. Now I consider myself only average intelligence(sp?) but i look around and it's like wow.... How do some people even function. It's everywhere, you can;t get away from it. Maybe it's just ignorarance. I closed down my own thread earlier this week because somebody decided to try to scare people about how you shouldn;t leave your car alone while your geocaching. Someone might copy down your VIN number, go to a dealer get keys cut and then come back and steal your car. Give me a break, get a life. In another thread we have people talking about trying to ban laser pointers because they can cause eye damage, Well guess what, so can looking into the sun. Or better yet so can most household cleaners. Guess we should ban laser pointers and stop cleaning our houses. O yea and why were at it don't night cache, you might loose your car or get pulled into a gay prostitution ring. I didn't know the definition of buried was so wide. I'm really sorry but use some common sense, think for yourselves once in a while. When is a cache buried? Hmmmm.... Let me thing if you dig, or put it a hole, and then cover it up..... Yup.... It's buried. Well maybe it's kind.... Nope sorry it's buried. I mean geeeeezzzzz..... Think. Maybe I've just had a rough day at work. Dealing with the same kin of crap. People that don't understand why there a sticker on your lawnmower that says don't use this machine to trim your hedges(that's cause 2 guys taped the opc handle down a couple of years ago and tried to pick the mower up while it was runnign to trim there hedges. Duh what do you think happened) So I'm sorry if I offend anybody but really people supervise your kids, lock your doors, don't stare at laser pointers or try to clean your retnas with bleach, don't pick up your lawnmower while it's running, and what ever you do don't cover your cache with dirt and say it's out in the open. I'm just frustrated.

I would like to see a picture of what it looks like now.
I second that!!!!!!

Well you can see my rig in my avitar. It's a 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe. It's beed modified quite a bit. Dosen't have alift kit but I have air bags in it so I just hit a button and It'll raise an additional 4". Full set of skid plates. Detachable sway bar. HD shocks, HD driveshaft with HD U-Joints(I drive a little hard) Air locking front and rear differantals. 6300LBS Super winch.(either front or rear mount). Under the hood I have a small block chevy 350 with a paxton supercharger with a ram air hood(yea I like to go fast too). Inside It;s fully loaded, Leather heated seats, Air conitioning( I can't live without my a/c) I even have a indash dvd player(I know it was a stupid investment but it was a great idea at the time). Ummm let;s see what else. I have my CB always close at hand, 2 rechargeable flashlights mounted to the floor. O yea an my fire extinguisher. That's realy about it. On the out side I have alot of lights(can;t have to many at night) I hav my high beams wired to turn on Highs and lowes at the same time. 4 KC 110watt KC daylighters across the visor. In the back I have 2 110watt flood lights for when I need to back out of that trail(this helpd alot with tinted windows. I also have A Hide-A-Way Strobe kit in headlights and tail lights for snowp;lowing. It's fun to scare people with them too. So that's my baby. I love to off road. ANd tend to spemnd alot of time doing it.
One little piece of advice for any "weekender" off roaders(those who don't do it alot) when your on a trail it's very easy(expically if you don't know what your doing) to tweaka tie rod, or rip a brake line, or damage a shock, or knock a exhause pipe loose, there's aklot that can happen. When ever you leavea trail take it slow when you get back on the road. Turn off the radio, have everybody quiet down, open the windows and just be observant. Listen for noises that weren;t there before. Feel your steering, test your brakes. Make sure everything is working. It's easier to stop a 4000+ vehicle when you have a problem when you doing 20 or 30 then when your on the freway doing 70 and someting finally lets go all the way. Just be obwservant. Nobody knows your rig better than you. Use it to your advantage.

I'm tired of reading about people who act like news men and women. Just out to scare people. There are better ways to steal a car then to go through all that trouble. You have better things in life to worry About then some kid or older person(i better add that before someone bickers that anyone can steal a car regardless of age) stealing your vin and getting a key made. You should go geo-caching and having fun with your friends and family. So in light of that and we are way off topic without any sign of going back I'm closing this thread by my self.

I might be moving to Georgia in a few months. My Buddy is probally gonna buy a campground out thatta way. I'll look you up if I head out there and you can how me around.

I can't wait till winter, No bikes whizzing by, no leaves to mess with reception, awesome night vision. Can;t wait. I'm off in the winter all I do is snow-plow for a living. So I'll have lots of time to get out in the wilderness.

I'm a huge fan of Shawshank Redemption. Alot of the movie was shot in Ohio and I'd always wanted to go out the the field where they shot the "geocaching" scene.
Well I was talking about the movie at work one day and one of the guys I work with is from the area they shot the movie in. It turns out that they shot that scene on his grandparents land. I haven't hit him up yet but I'm going to try to get out there this spring once it's nice.
Depending on the distance from the road and what premissions I can get there is a small possibility I could but a cache there.
I can only hope.
I'm from ohio and I would love to see a cache from the movie. Where at in ohio was that filmed?

The unit should float regardless of batteries. Lithium cells will float better, but even with regular alkaline it will kindof float. When I'm around water I attach one of those floating key chains like you attach to boat keys. Just as a extra margin of safety. Dropping a $500 Gps unit and loosing it to the botttom of a lake would really ruin my day.

Hey RK you forgot to mention that everything is FUBAR.

We have a sign like this that we put on our car's dash, right next to the VIN plate.
FWIW, I always cover the VIN plates in my vehicles (the one that's on the dash, visible through the windshield.) It's a fact, that some dealers will cut a key for someone who comes in and says they're locked out of their car, here's the VIN....without proof of ownership. This makes a simple way for some creep to pick, choose and drive away.
Yeah, I know, somebody is going to tell me that it's illegal to cover the VIN in some jurisdiction or another. I'll deal with that when I have to...
There is a code on your original keys that a dealer can use to recut them. But your VIN number will not allow anyone to simply cut a key and drive away with your car. Your VIN number is simply a identifying mumber. The majority of it cantains information such as what make, model, does it have abs or air bags, evn does it have a/c. Only a very small portion of it actually contains information to differantiate your car from the nex in the manufacturing line. and those numbers DO NOT correspond with the ignition. It takes more research than just looking at the VIN number to get a replacement key cut. If somebody wants your car they are not gonna go throught all that trouble. Even the really good theives won't. Theymay just get ahold of the master key for either a GM or FORD ignition. But they aren't gonna go through all the trouble of getting a key cut. So nobody panic and don't worry about covering your VIN number. No bodys gonna run to the nearest dealer and order a key and wai for it to come in and then find your car agin and take it. It's all right calm down.... Don't panic. be more worried about when your daughter grows up and meets the guy that has so many piercings he looks like he fell into a tool box.

I only have a few find but out of the ones I do have I haven;t found anything worth taking. I usally keeps cool stuff in my pack. Batteries, led lights, carabeaners with led lights, carabeaner radios, cheap multi tools, laser pointers, compasses. But honestly I haven't found anything worth trading for. I usally try to leve the cache a little richer, lately they've been alot richer. It's just disapointing not to find cool stuf in them. To many people are trading gerber multi tools for used losing lottery tickets and dadgum Mctoys. And speaking of those, I don't think trading a bunch of useless crap constitutes taking the most valuable thing in the cache. I understand geo-caching is not about what you trade, but still it's nice to find something worth value everynow and then instead of just useless crap. Ok i'm done venting now. I just got back from a cache where I left a carabeaner radio and took a McToy just so I could close the lid.

Just thought I would share this with everybody. When I leave my truck especially at night in a parking lot I have a sign made up that I stick in my drivers side window. It simply states that this truck is not abonded and I'm geo-caching in the near by area and it list the official web page and my team name. I've had several cops pull in to a parking lot look at the note and simply leave. I've even had one that checked the note and left, he came back to the lot about 40 minutes later and noticed my truck was still there. He then intered the woods just to make sure I hadn't fallen or gotten hurt. I didn't have to explain anything to him. He had stated that he wished all area cachers did the same. He said they would leave us alone at night as long as they knew what we were up too. SDome of you all may want to try this as well. It helps. Atleast it draws less suspicion.
If anyone wants a copy of the one I made just reply and I'll gadly sent it to you. It looks very official and like I said it seems to help.

Thank you all for your repolies. I'm gona keep looking for this one. And your all right I'll feel better when I FINALLY find it. I'm sure I'll learn a lesson in caching cause I know I still pretty new at this one. It's just a thorn in my side and I don't want to get discuraged. I was just getting to the point on this one where it wasn't funb to hunt for it anymore. I was just getting pissed off cause it was dark and cold and wet and I didn't want to spend another night out there looking. I'll find it, eventually. Thanks to all that replied.

I have a cache in my area that is driving me nuts. I kno I'm still realativly new to this sport but this one is killing me. Is it ok to ask the cache owner for exzactly where the cache is. I've spent 5 nights at this cache and I can't find it. I've even asked for help and all I get are stupid riddles and hints that don't help me. All I want to do is find this cache, sign the log and get the hell away form it. So is it bad ediquite to just bluntly admit it's too good for me and ask for the answer?
This is the cache I can't find. It's in ohio. Anyone wanna help GCK7PP

Are We Allowed?

I'm starting to see a trend in caches around my area. The first cache I saw like this really frustrated the hell out of me, untill I finally found it. And I think the reason I never found it was because I didn't think we were allowed to do it. I've since found 2 other ones that have been placed just like it. What the are doing is taking a tree branck and hollowing it out, then placing a micro in it. No big deal. But then they will drill a 1 or 2" hole IN A TREE to place the stick back into. It's hard as hell to find and I give them all credit on a good hide. But isn't that bad for the tree. I'm not a tree hugger of anyting but I'm afraid this stuff is gonna put a bad name for the sport, espicially if the parks and wildlife departments find that peopl are taking cordless drills out to drill into trees. Should i worry about this or no. Should I tell somebody about it. Looking for some advice.
