  1. I ended up choosing the 510 and am very happy! What did everyone else decide on and how did it work out?
  2. Update: I was able to get $130 off a Magellan 510, which made the choice a no-brainer. And I'm very happy with my choice.
  3. I agree. I am alright with the photo as proof of the act happening, but there needs to be some type of actual CHALLENGE. Or its not fun/ there is no point. While I'm not happy with the new changes, I am open to new Geocaching avenues. I have tried 3 of the challenges and none of them required me to do anything out of the ordinary. I am going to keep an open mind, but as it stands, I would rather do without. They need to be moderated and require the person to physically achieve something. Isn't that the point of Geocaching? Spending time outdoors and (re)connecting with the world outside? My favorite caches are the ones that require a physical effort (usually a hike or maybe a difficult puzzle) to get to. I guess what I'm saying is...I WANT TO BE CHALLENGED BY CHALLENGES!
  4. I've been doing a lot of research on the 510...its one of the ones i'm considering for my first gps, (id previously been using my HTC Evo, which works fab, but i need something thats better under heavier tree cover). Good news: i found several places online that claim there are now free maps for magellan. Bad news: ive been on so many sites today that i cant remember where to send you. BUT if you look, im sure you can find them too!
  5. This has been VERY helpful, as I'm in the same situation as Kenas. I've been going back and forth between these two units and a few others. I have been able to use my HTC Evo successfully for caching so far, (it even has a Wherigo app), but I prefer caches with higher terrain difficulty, and would like more accuracy/ reassurance. I think the screen readability in bright sunlight might be the biggest pro between these for me. One issue I've come across recently though, is that it seems like a lot of stores are dropping the 510 model...which worries me. Maybe its just a niche product since it lacks barometric altimeter and true compass? Hmmmmmm
