    Bear Attack

One thing to keep in mind with various types of OC spray is that it is not a cure all. I have seen huge grown men turn into crying little girls with just the shortest little blast, and small mentally ill guys that a whole can didn't affect.. It may work, it may not. Same with animals. I have heard that Counter Assualt is good. My agency uses/issues Fox Labs which is the industry leader right now. http://www.foxlabs.com/ The 1lb "crowd control" is an awesome device. Stay away from keychain devices, the small amount of propellant makes them ineffective rather quickly and can go dead even when not used due to residual leakage. If you are concerned about wind at all consider the stream units. MSSP
  7. Here's a link with the picture of mine 60C mounted in the RAM mount with the 3.5 Locking suction cup. Well worth the money in my opinion. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...0entry1044368
  8. I started off with a Meridian Gold that I had purchased for $199 from Walmart. I think it's a great GPS Value. But I don't find it too visually appealing and I too felt color was more important than the ability to load 10 states worth of maps. I ended up with a 60C and am extremely pleased!! The 56megs of memory will serve me well as I rarely (if ever) leave my state. I was able to load the entire state of Washington and a good section of the bordering Canada/Idaho/Oregon using CitySelect V6.0. The autorouting is fantastic. If money isn't a concern the Garmin offerings are excellent. Magellan just hasn't stepped up with anything to compete. Their explorists were a poor attempt at the eTrex market share that I feel will be doomed by their lack of connectivity. Hopefully they will offer something comparable to the 60/76 series for the Magellan fans.
  9. You probably already know this.... I'd return it and buy one of the RAM mounts. Expensive yes, but I had visions of my 60C falling off the window... Not good. I bought one with the locking suction mount and aluminum arm from gpscity.com for $39, well worth it in my opinion. I'll try to post a pic. M
  10. I know, I feel like I should have bought (3) instead of only (1) .
  11. I had one of the explorist 200's for a few days. Great 14channel receiver, but very limited... The lack of PC interface is crippling to say the least. How would you ever upgrade the software?? I ended up returning mine and jumped on the Legend for $99 from campingworld.com. Couldn't be happier. Hard to beat the legend for the price they get. If large map capability is a priority then the Magellan can't be beat, it was just too big for me.
  12. Finally rec'd my new Garmin 60C and CitySelect v6.0! Wow this is some cool stuff. I wish I would have bought this right off the bat, spendy little sucker when you include the RAM mount and software... Anyway I want to purchase a antenna for it (the 60C) along with some cigarette lighter adapters (for both) from Gilsson Technologies. What's the difference between all the choices? I want one with a 6ft lead and a suction cup base to mount in the window. I mainly want the best lock I can get and have the option of moving the GPSr out of the window and maybe to the console for easier viewing. There's just so many choices, I don't even know what kind of connector I need. Thanks for any help!! http://shop.store.yahoo.com/gilsson/antennas.html

    Gps Systems

For economy the Legend can't be beat. I bought mine new from campingworld.com during thier closeout special for $99 a few weeks ago!! TigerGPS has them for $142, seems to be an average price.
  14. I went ahead and just had TigerGPS just add Version 6.0 to my order (A 60C that should be here tomorrow). I figured that would just be easier than messing with trying to get an "upgrade"... Also ordered a RAM mount from GPS city as well. Now I just need to get a cable 12V cable and I'm set for the most part....
  15. I would love to see some pics of how you guys have them mounted. I'm almost convinced to order one of the RAM 4" suction cup windshield mount (aluminum)... The cupholder mount looks promising too, but I don't think I'd get crap for reception...
  16. I had visions of the bean bag mount falling off of the dash or slamming into the window in traffic... If the version upgrade is free than maybe the AutoNav kit (one off eBay probably) would be the way to go... If I don't like the bean bag mount I'm sure I could sell it off reasonable to someone who did want it. Both my vehicles have fairly flat dashboards... Anyone have a line on the cheapest place to get the AutoNav kits?? Thanks for the help on here everyone. Since I bought my first GPS a few weeks ago I've already bought and returned a Magellan Meridian Gold (too big), then a Magellan Explorist 200 (too limited). Now I jumped on one of the Etrex Legends from Campingworld for $99 (to use as a backup and one for my daughter to play with) and have the 60C on the way... Could be an expensive hobby.... Thanks!
  17. We'll I broke down and ordered a C60 the other day so I am impatiently waiting for it to arrive... In the meantime I am looking at AutoNav kits and software. All the kits seem to be shipping with CitySelect Version 5 not 6. What's the big difference between the two? How much is the upgrade? I found CitySelect V6 on eBay for $119.95 + $10 shipping. I really want a windshield mount instead of the beanbag one that comes with the AutoNav kit, so I'm not sure that I'd be better off buying the kit if it doesn't have the up to date software and accessories I want. Suggestions?
  18. I would suggest for most checking out the book from your local library and saving your money for batteries and other gear you will want. I just checked out GPS for Dummies and for the $20 I saved I can buy 2 more sets (4) of energizer 2300mAh rechargeable batteries.. The problem with these books is that they go out of date soooo quick you almost throwing your money away. I checked out (4) from my local library, three weren't even worth reading they were so old. GPS for dummies was new enough that everything is still current. Just a thought...
  19. I think this is a good idea. I'm new to the game but can already see the need for more than one GPS for my personal use. I started with a Meridian Gold but was unhappy with the size/shape of it for basic use. I took it back and bought an Explorist 200 which I love for the size and shape, not to mention the new 14 channel reciever (but I'm returning). I really want the ability to upload/download to the unit. Plus in the vehicle I want a decent size unit with a color display. But when I'm out I want something pocket sized pointing me in the direction I need to go. I CANT DECIDE!!!! So what I have done is purchased a Garmin eTrex Legend from http://www.campingworld.com for $99.95 plus $1 for shipping. The Legend is a more than adequate gps for on and off road from what I hear and should meet my needs fine (especially at that price!!). This will be my backup and out of car unit. Next purchase will probably be a 60C or 76C for all around (mostly vehicle) use. M
